I am an atheist. I don't care about Halloween, the commercial thing that has nothing to do with christian faith (the bull# story that happens to dominate my local culture) at all.

Now, the implicit reasoning in the OP (that is, the way I read it, can't say anything about the intentions of the writer) is that atheists shouldn't celebrate religious things, is that a correct interpretation? If it is, I'm sorry to say that this reasoning doesn't work, as in lots of places culture has been influenced so much by religious traditions, that some religious things basically deter into overall cultural ones. Take X-Mas for example. I'd rather die than to participate in the religious thing, yet I gather with some good friends (some of them are non-atheists), cook some dead beast and eat it. Because this is a cultural act, not a religious one.

Seeing how Halloween is literally a day of just fun (and to sell random stuff to people to boost the economy a tiny bit) I don't see how this question makes sense. Halloween has no religious meaning today (I'm not sure if it ever did even despite some condemning it for dumb reasons)

Also I would like to point out how even holidays with meaning like Christmas are celebrated my many non religious people. I have a very personal sort of belief, I believe that we are reincarnated upon death and that our bodies are just basically vessels that we occupy. I believe our souls are as old as the Universe even and that our lives are eternal (no heaven and hell) although I believe that we can eventually end up in a form of heaven eventually (some might call this belief similar to reaching different densities or dimensions. I can't explain exactly how I feel this way to be honest, its just how I feel. Also some reincarnation stories are very compelling, especially those from children which are proved accurate.

Anyway sorry about all that I just wanted to demonstrate how despite this I celebrate many Christian holidays just because is a tradition we have that is more about friends, family, love, sharing and giving that just uses a Christian name. Many maintain that Christian holidays were changed anyway to convert people with other beliefs, making holidays closer together to make them feel that they are changing less. Sounds odd but in history converting people sometimes began by just changing the religions name and practices were gradually phased out. It made people feel that they still had their religion as they couldn't be stopped from practicing their holidays etc.

Basically holidays often have nothing to do with religion and are simply a tradition for the people who want something to look forward to and lets not forget an excuse to get paid time of work!

(why is spell check saying that 'practicing' is not the correct spelling? lol

Athiests arent against religion....we just done believe a sky fairy created us. We dont believe the Bible is a historical record, its more of a fictional story to make people fear enjoying life to the full.

Unless you have had the fortune to not have been indoctrinated as a child you wont get that though
People arent born religious...they are taught it from a very young age. (child abuse)

I dont celebrate halloween....its nonsense.
Yea many people do, and enjoy doing it....good for them

I'm an atheist. I spent Halloween at a costume party with a bunch of nerds and scientists at a bar off Bourbon street.

It's much less religious than Christmas, which has lost much of it's religious meaning, anyway. My family just uses the holiday as a time to be together and waste money on others instead of ourselves.
