i dont why you're getting angry i just type what i saw or heard.

Then I suggest that you do some rethinking because if you just parrot everything you hear you could end up in some serious trouble.

I will tell you why i am angry. Because I am happy to let my Christian and Muslim friends believe what they wish to believe and i do not try to tell them otherwise. Likewise they accept my point of view.

You come along having just read something on a dubious site full of youngsters who know no better and spout it as gospel. It is not OK?

So basically, yes, you do just make things up.

Would you like to learn, from a Pagan, the origins and true meaning of Samhain / Halloween?

hah i agree with your first statement...i find it funny how people get angry at one thread that asks them a simple question but uh the Y/A people are even WORSE

What do you expect? You lumped all atheists together, as if we're all out to have our own inquisition against christians.

Would you like us to blame you for the Spanish inquisition? Of course not. So don't blame all of us for what a small group wants to do.

i quote what i hear and see.

Then my friend there is little hope for you. I suggest you go watch the MSM and try to rejoin the sheeple and forget about ATS because verbatim quoting what you hear is a dangerous way to carry on.

You don't do your own research? You don't ask before you assume something is correct?
Perhaps you should re-evaluate that.

i think its human nature to celebrate things, even if they don't believe in them. celebrating for the sake of celebrating.

Oh gee - - another religious person starts an Atheist thread. Shocking!

This Atheist celebrates all the holidays - - - because they are fun. I don't associate any other meaning to them.

I am atheist and I like halloween. I also celebrate Xmas, not as the Jesus birthday but as family get together. I hope this helps

Yep - me too. No religion attached to my Christmas or Easter. Well - - except I'm fine with Earth beliefs and Solstice rituals.

I collect small toys through out the year to use as tree decorations. We do family - food - play games and stuff like that.

If Christians can steal a Pagan holiday - - I have no problem stealing it back LOL

The obvious troll is somewhat obvious. I fancy the OP is even putting maggots under his tongue to warm the bait, promote a bit of extra riggle and get some nice juicy baits. He's baiting the hooks well, I will grant him that.

Most major holidays stem from pagan rituals. Easter for good example is all about fertility, hence the bunnys (known for shagging) and eggs. This would be why Joho's do not celebrate ''religious'' holidays. If anything it's easier for us non-believers it accept these traditions as simply something fun to do on an annual basis.Besides kids of atheists enjoy free candy as much as the next kid, possibly more with less restrictions as to what is acceptable. Most churches try to take the scary out of halloween, which in my opinion is raising a generation of kids to be unreasonably afraid of EVERYTHING and by complaining about it, it can be ignored.

the reason why i asked is because atheists are against religion and Halloween is a religious holiday.

I don't celebrate holidays. So, for Halloween, I did exactly what I do most evenings. Make dinner, watch a movie or some TV and converse with my spouse. Nothing special.

Now, as far as certain holidays being religious, it's true that they originated from religion, but for many people. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter have all really become secular holidays. They are commercial and geared toward the dollar. People don't have to be religious to celebrate dressing up for candy, eating and being thankful, spending time with family and friends, sharing love or eating those little marshmallow chicks.
We don't need the excuse of religion to celebrate life and love.

Holidays are like marriage. Each family defines it for themselves.

Since I guess I technically can be considered atheist (Buddhism has no Supreme Cosmic Ego or pantheon of gods to worship), I guess I can throw my two cents in.

I gave candy out last night. We only got 11 kids. I suppose it's up to the individual nontheist, as Halloween is far more secular than religious in any way.

Hallowe'en (All Hallow's Eve) is a Christian holiday based on Pagan beliefs, created purely to woo in the European tribes to a Christian following, just like Christmas (Yule) and Easter (Ishtar), and has evolved over time to make it easier to market. The Pagan holiday, Samhain (pronounced "Sow-in" and NOT "Sam-hane", was a harvest festival that was hijacked purely and simply to fill pews.
Today, just like any other mainstream holiday, anyone can celebrate. No one seems to mind when a non-Christian takes a pint in 'ol St. Patrick's honor every March 17th.

I think the world will be fine if a couple of atheists get dressed up for some candy.

Happy Hallowe'en

Christians celebrate Halloween in America, along with many other religious groups. Except for some sects among some(Jesus-ween, Ugh).

Point is, very few among us are Celts with the old Celtic beliefs. Halloween is celebrated for fun, not based off true beliefs. I don't see why any religion or non-religion should have a problem having a day for a certain kind of fun, except those who care about the origins or feel it takes glory away from their god.

I don't even see how Atheism and Halloween could be seen as incompatible. Except for those who care about following really old superstitions, and don't see it's meaning has changed into harmless fun.
