its such a shame to see such hateful responses to this topic
i believe OWS will have a very hard time in coming months, most protests either end violently or have exceedingly violent periods, how these changes effect them could either help or completely destroy them
ive lurked for a while and ive seen that some of you have personal problems with protesters behaving badly, i'm sorry for their actions and i would ask you not to let a few people color your opinions
but i have a question for some of you
why are the words are words like socialism being thrown around negatively?
just a question
thank you for your time and i look forward to your replies

Like Buchanan or not, I like him for his insight not his politics, he is very insightful and quite accurate. I read his book "The Death of the West: How Dying Populations and Immigrant Invasions Imperil Our Culture and Civilization" back in 2001. It disturbed me then and even more so now as I watch the world change just as he had statistically detailed.

from that book

The West is Dying. Collapsing birth rates in Europe and the United States, coupled with population explosions in Africa, Asia, and Latin America are set to cause cataclysmic shifts in world power, as unchecked immigration swamps and polarizes every Western society and nation.

The Death of the West details how a civilization, culture, and moral order are passing away and foresees a new world order that has terrifying implications for our freedom, our faith, and the preeminence of American democracy.

Sounds rather haunting to me...

Now, with the OWS thing... They are many extraneous factors pushing and pulling at this movement at any moment. What little foundation it was built on is now crumbling brick by brick. The fringe elements are endorsing, the union muscle is being used and bused in, the millionaire celebrities are showing up to speak all the while their limos are kept hidden from the cameras, Obama and his cronies think this is a neat idea, former 60's radicals are "teaching" at these protests... It is the brewing of the perfect storm.

The Zuccotti park campers are fighting over money, and which group gets how much, complaining of freeloaders when they are all really freeloaders and actually advocate freeloading as a way of life for the nation. In fighting is occurring in a specific area of this park etc etc etc.

Furthermore, no one is focusing on the Government, Capital Hill or the WH at all. Hence the glowing raves from Obama, Rangel, Pelosi etc. No one is marching in their backyard. Lenin would be very disappointed by this.. This movement will have no impact for this simple reason alone.

Couple all of that with fatigue, sanitary problems, lac of focus, greed, cold, wet, poor nutrition and you end up with big problems. Just study history. The violence will erupt in California first... Eyes will open wide and the movement will implode only to rise again in October 2012 to push once again...

Sounds like more white hyperbole from Queen Pat.

Why anyone still takes him seriously is baffling to me.

The numbers don't lie. Just study the shift in Europe and the US. It is not rocket science nowadays. Back in 2001 it was a foreign concept.

Get out of the hole in the ground and look. Especially in Europe.

he may be, but i think he's correct. this whole OWS thing is going to end badly. they aren't just going to say. "well, that was fun. time to go home." someone is going to have to force them home, and it won't be pretty when they do.

And what pray tell is the point of mobilizing people with this information?

I see it as propaganda to get white racists all riled up and nothing more.

Pat Buchanan: Occupy Wall St is "going to end very, very badly."

So basically Pat Buchanan says that with winter approaching, the OWS protests are going to start becoming increasingly more violent. Based upon the recent events in Denver and Oakland he may be right. Then again, maybe he knows something the public doesn't.

Is law enforcement being ordered to start using more violent methods to try and disperse the crowds?

What's everyone's opinion on this?

My opinion is regrettably - history does have a tendency to repeat itself.
Maybe Pat remembers another peaceful assembly...
and the end result.

On May 4, l970 members of the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of Kent State University demonstrators, killing four and wounding nine Kent State students. The impact of the shootings was dramatic.

Soon afterward, with no provocation, soldiers opened fire into a group of fleeing students. Four young people were killed, shot in the back, including two women who had been walking to class." (Norton et al., 1994, p. 732) Unfortunately, this short description contains four factual errors: (1) some degree of provocation did exist; (2) the students were not fleeing when the Guard initially opened fire; (3) only one of the four students who died, William Schroeder, was shot in the back; and (4) one female student, Sandy Schreuer, had been walking to class, but the other female, Allison Krause, had been part of the demonstration.

The event triggered a nationwide student strike that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close. H. R. Haldeman, a top aide to President Richard Nixon, suggests the shootings had a direct impact on national politics. In The Ends of Power, Haldeman (1978) states that the shootings at Kent State began the slide into Watergate, eventually destroying the Nixon administration. Beyond the direct effects of the May 4th, the shootings have certainly come to symbolize the deep political and social divisions that so sharply divided the country during the Vietnam War era. dept.kent.edu...

"What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground?" Neil Young lyrics, Ohio

"It's still hard to believe I had to write this song. It's ironic that I capitalized on the death of these American students. Probably the most important lesson ever learned at an American place of learning. David Crosby cried after this take." thrasherswheat.org...

Thank You! I have mentioned Kent State in other threads on the subject of OWS. Kent State was a tipping point for the country and the radicals that were bused into town pushed the Kent State March over the edge. They started fires, broke windows and cut the fire hoses when they tried to douse the ROTC building fire. Radicals will push OWS over the edge as well.

Interesting story about the girl in the famous Pulitzer Prize winning photo. She was a 14 year old runaway named Mary Vecchio. She was traveling with a group of protesters around the country and stopped off in Kent.

Not at all. People were trying to bust Buchanan for what he is predicting for OWS. I simply stated that the man was very insightful and quite accurate by mentioning his book that was written 10 years ago as it relates to who our entire world is changing right before our eyes in exactly the way he discussed. Read the book. There is nothing racist about it nor anything racist about me.

Sadly, there are more racists at the OWS rallies these days. Especially in Arizona and Oakland. Don't forget the Anti Semites too.

OWS will get ugly very soon, especially if they move forward with the events that they have planned for Wednesday and Saturday.

I'm sure you're not the violent type but please realize that those who condone violence as a means to end are all over OWS. Lisa Fithian for one, Bill Ayers, Andy Stern, Stephen Lerner etc.

Just a word to the wise.

Politicians should be paid a salary that is comparable to the mean salary a middle class family makes. The gov't positions were not created to be a life long career, but a way to make sure the common man has a say in the laws and ways the country is governed.

Do you realize that this makes too much sense for this thread ? It doesn't contain violence, or vengeance, or half-baked theories , and certainly isn't radical enough to motivate those who lack both experience and education to post a reasonable reply.

You are absolutely correct in your suggestion. There is a major disconnect between our professional politicians and the people they are supposed to represent. As a result, they represent a small, well organized, well funded elite.

The great American experiment in democracy isn't dead, but it sure could use some resuscitation.

The OWS movement is a natural response to the sickness that has invaded our country over the years.

However you feel about it, it's here, it's now and if it is the result of a conspiracy, it's a conspiracy started by Americans who recognize there is a problem and want to do something about it.

The OWS movement isn't going to go away. It may change it's name, it may appear as something else, but it will always be here. It has always been here, whether it was called the Boston Tea Party, The Civil Rights Movement, Woman's Suffrage, Anti-war, Gay Rights, The Labor Movement...as long as their are injustices in this country, people will come together and find a way to abolish those injustices. It's what people do.

So, you can call these people every name in the book, refer to them as losers and miscreants, tell your children that they're evil, but just remember, it if wasn't for people like the OWSers throughout history, we wouldn't even have an ATS forum to complain about them.

Trouble makers or so called "radicals" can easily be shipped in TROJAN HORSE STYLE and implanted there among the peaceful protesters to cause the desired reaction and have the police take defensive action and disband the entire crowd - peaceful or not.

Unless they have people like "mufflers" in place to "put out those fires" the opponents of this movement WILL INFILTRATE IT - IT'S WHAT THEY DO - AND PROVOKE A REASON FOR RETALIATION.
I fear the peaceful demonstrators will be rained on with rubber bullets and gas. Deaths may not be deliberate but by accidental trampling. You want to start a war or cause an uprising? They are really adept at that but not so keen on stopping them. I saw a video and it clearly illustrates the 1% are almost exclusively in ARMS MANUFACTURE. Boeing and Lockheed Martin and some others along those lines. I wish I could find that video again.

Interesting bit of history in this excerpt from a book about the Kent Shootings. Here the author is talking about the events in Chicago prior to and leading up to Kent State. Bill Ayers and the evolution of the Weather Underground group as well as a "Day of Rage" back then. It is so eerily familiar with what is happening now and Bill Ayers was just teaching a group at Occupy Chicago. Perhaps he has unfinished business.

I believe Pat Buchanan is in the know that the powers hay be will try to end this at all costs. My opinion is that this will only drive more to their cause . People are fed up with the greed and evil and truly want change, they are onto the lies of our elected and the federal reserve and want change just like back when england ruled.

Perhaps Mr. Buchanan is also aware of the gauntlet that OccupyOMC (OccupyMarines) just threw down in an interview with ABC news yesterday (10/30/11). The question was:

How long has OMC been around? Specific dates?

Answer:

OMC Core were established shortly after 9/11 when a report was presented suggesting 9/11 hijackers were financed through the CIA/Pentagon/White House in support of unidentified supporters of Wall Street. The Report remains securely within CIA data farms at unknown locations as Ultra Top Secret clearance for violations of the Geneva Convention.

occupymarines.org...

Pat Buchanan said in the referenced article:

“It’s going to end very, very badly with these folks in the winter and they’re not going to be getting publicity and they’re going to be acting up and acting badly like the worst of the demonstrators in the 60s," Buchanan said. "They’re going to start fighting with the cops.”

I suggest that Mr. Buchanan is simply trying to deplete the morale of the movement because he, like many learned in the nastiness of TPTB, knows that they will stop at nothing to preserve their psychopathic propensity for evil.

But the fear barrier has been broken. Vets from around the country are currently training OWS members for winter and for PEACEFUL civil disobedience.

My hunch is that before Feb 2012 has passed, the tide will unequivocally be on the side of the "99%" around the world.

LOL There are a lot of racists at OWS protests? I beg to differ, when I was there outside of the regular protests signs about being 99 percent. There were also a lot of people with signs about equality and ending prejudice.

The right to protest peacefully is not an issue, as we the people accept such as part of the law of the land, and our heritage to do such.
In said protests, there are always a fringe element that will seek to agitate the authorities and police as much as possible, thus here in lies the problem with the entire mass protests such as OWS.

The people protesting the OWS, have a responsibility, as long as they are clinging to the law, to police their own, and ensure that the safety of all, both those in the protest, but also those who they are protesting are safe in actions and movement. That means not blocking off streets, blocking the exits of the buildings and not being a nuisance to those who are not interested in said protest.

This also bears to watch on how they conduct themselves as well, if they are urinating on buildings, defecating out in public, blocking exits, blocking traffic, then they are affecting the safety and well being of everyone around them. Throwing stones, and bottles also damages their credibility, as it shows a readiness to jump to violence when they are not getting their way.

The OWS is being used, by another power, to force an agenda that no one wants. They are seeing that they are doing the right thing, but with no clear goals, no grievances that are justified, attacking the innocent just serves to decrease their credibility. The lack of goals that are valid is present, in this protest, most of what they are claiming they are protesting against, is false and leading back to the government itself, not the people on wall street, who are playing by the rules set out by the government.

The police are doing the best that they can, but how long will it cease to be when the rocks, bottles and the mere nature of the protest ceases to be that of peace, but a riot of violence, where they start doing real damage or harm to other people?

Mr. Buchannan is correct in his assessment, this is going to end badly, as winter is coming up fast, already snow has fallen in the north east and central plains, the question should be asked, what next, if they can not get their way when it gets really cold, are they going to move to try to get into locked buildings to occupy those spaces all for warmth?

The police are in a lose-lose situation, as is the government cause here is the ultimate choice that they will have to make, and the protestors are backing them into a wall: Stop the protest, and force them to disperse, or let them freeze and die of exposure, both options have consequences. If they stop the protest and force the protestors to disperse, people will scream martial law, and the government will look bad, ultimately taking a hit where they are trying to protect those who are putting themselves in harms way. If they let them remain and people dies due to exposure of the cold, the government and police will be accused of being heartless and mean, for allowing this to happen. What would you do, if you were say the mayor of New York and knowing that the winters can get harsh, and that there are thousands of people on the streets, snow is falling and sticking to the ground? Hard choices and tough decisions, opening up the buildings is not your choice, as that is all private property and any owner would have the right to deny those protestors a space to stay so that way they can continue, further complicates matters.

We have not heard the last of this, and it bears to watch and see what all happens.

Page three and 1/3 of the comments have been deleted? Amazing. I can see this is still a very heated issue, which is a good thing. An idea that grows cold, dies, and I don't want this to die.
That being said, the rhetoric is getting a little out of hand, especially by those who get all of their occupy information via the Mainstream Media. Not a prudent decision.
As has been mentioned in previous threads: If you agree there is something wrong with the system, but don't agree with Occupy's or Anonymous' methods, then begin your own movement. But arguing for the sake of arguing, because you still entertain fairytales about Republicans and Democrats, isn't going to do anything except hurt your own future, as the status quo can do nothing but hurt your future. The system must change... and so it will.

This is not the politics of liberty, but the politics of ENVY.

OWS fulth are the scum of humanity and they need to be swept away with the rest of the trash before they can harm any more innocent people.

This is not about envy it is about greed gone rampant and the evil people that do not care about anyone but the bottom line. They care not for our great nation they only care about new ways to fleece us dry to finance the nations they plan on being the next great consumers.

It is very evil, very non-American and totally against anything decent.

Who are you? Why would you not be for what is good for the average American and the good of our nations future?
