IF Qantas survives, I hope they do but I have my doubts, many jobs are going to go anyhow.

Another booby prize for JuLIAR! Just how much more damage can be done under her watch? God help us all!

Well I'd day Qantas will still be around but you'll have Indonesian pilots and Thai hostesses and the planes will be serviced in India which is also where you'll call to book a flight..

Oh and with ownership laws changing, all profits will be shared in other countries rather than Australia..

I say they should paint out the Flying Kangaroo.
There wont be much Australian about Qantas.

Wow, this is big !

Booting passengers off of the planes as they were sitting at the departure gates waiting to take flight ?! Has this dumbass lost his marbles ?! He just permanently lost thousands upon thousands of future customers and free-handed them over to the competition.

Branson must be smiling from ear to ear right now...

R.I.P. Qantas

If the unions haven't killed Qantas.

I can see some maintenance done overseas - which happens with all major international carriers.
Australia has a small population in world terms and flight is inherently a global business - why not have some maintenance overseas?

Profits will go to the shareholders, as it always did.

It really makes you wonder, doesn't it ?

Let's face it, what's the best way to get rid of your competition ?
Kill it from the inside out.

Branson henchman ?

If it's not Branson, then who else has it in for Qantas and/or Australia by placing a heavy burden on it's economy? Only someone who will stand to gain vast profits out of all of this and I can smell it all the way to the UK. Alan Joyce is only contracted until 2012, the shareholders will have his head soon enough and in a matter of days or weeks rather than months.

Qantas won't budge, thats a no-brainer; $68M already lost since the start of the strike action, they won't be in any mood to negotiate. Best thing for all Qantas workers....return back to your jobs and negotiate with the Federal Govt. The alternative is mega job losses, banks will foreclose on your homes if mortgage payments are not met within a month or two, domestic violence among Qantas families will skyrocket....Virgin Australia will take only so many Qantas employees (that being less than 30% of Qantas employees and the pilots will be first in line), save your airline, save as many jobs as you can. The alternative is not a healthy outcome.

Thats my advice to the Qantas workers.

Branson is already on his iPhone bringing in new staff and planes.....he won't be sleeping tonight with all those $$$ signs ringing in his head!

Would love to see a thorough investigation or Royal Commission in to all of this......and that includes Alan Joyce's phone records and computer hard-drives for the past 6 months.....

Wow you people are such whine worth's.

You should know by now that those at the top really do not have a clue about how the real world works anyways, there only job really is to make laws and rules that those bellow them must follow. And you can guess who those rules favor, it's all a big pyramid scam who's purpose is to funnel wealth and energy to the top, by way of all the usual tools. And that truly is the only thing humans are really capable of being and doing, even if you replace them then new one will eventually do as the old one. So say hello to the new boss same as the old boss.

But this problem is easy to solve, here what you do. You find who are all in on this pyramid funneling scam, and you get rid of them ie fire them, and if they don't want to step down nicely, then you line them up and shoot them. Yes I said it! if it comes down to that that is what you must do, if you have to. This ain't no joke, in the long run it will effect all involved and yes even your grandchildren's children children, and many nations and peoples can attest to what happens when they keep parasites at the top. Look at history and you will see.

But dont worry it wo

Really, if you can not fire those at the top from there jobs, but they can fire you any time they want even on a whim or to improve there stock....Your not living in anything even close to freedom, it's more along the lines of a fiefdom or tyranny, and you know the thing about any fiefdoms, or corporatism and fascism as its called now a days. Or as there known and called by the masses today, democracy or even a republic.

Funny no how words are meaningless. And just use to confine and control.

Now for all those working under such dictatorship of this corporation, go out there and cause much mayhem, or better yet never use there products ever again.

Richard Branson would just love that! Would save him buying up cheap Qantas shares at bargain basement prices!

Not really sure where you are going with that.

It's really quite simple. Workers are paid to show up and do a job. If they don't do it - then they aren't going to get paid, and someone else who will do it will be sought.

If you can't find anyone willing to do it for the highest price you are willing to pay - then, perhaps, it's best you do something else. If those former employees can make a living with their trade, elsewhere, or by doing another trade... then so be it. If not, then perhaps they should lower their expectations.

It's really not that complicated. Unions tend to shoot themselves in the foot when bargaining for wages.

Me, personally, I don't care. A union can go fornicate itself if it wants to discuss wage increases for its members. It is none of their business. Plain and simple. If someone feels they need a raise - they can talk to their manager about it, personally - or their shift manager about it. If they cannot reach an agreement that they feel is fair - they are free to seek employment elsewhere and their request for a wage increase will not (at least with anyone I would ever place in management) affect the reference they are given (a good, intelligent, aware worker will get an appropriate reference).

Now - if workers want to band together and discuss working conditions, safety issues, shift scheduling, etc - that is appropriate. If they want to have a lunch program, or look at setting up day-care facilities or other types of things - that is fine.

But pay above the starting pay, in my line of thinking - is on an individualized basis, and non-negotiable as far as a union is concerned.

And why are they heroes? Because they want more money and they are striking...so any person that feels as though they should be making more money should strike until they get what they want...scenario**I own a business and my employees are upset because the company made more money than its previous years...they see no raise so they strike? That makes them heroes? What if I the business owner wants to build another business doing something else on top of what he or she already has?

If I onwed it I would too. The unions have stuffed them aroudn too long.

Bit soory for any trying to fly out though but unions hold businesses to ransom and they need to be shown that a job and an income is a priveledge not a right as far as they are concerned.

In my business I employ people for me, not for them. I'm not a chairity. Here's my wage to you for this work and this hours. Take it or leave it. If you won't do it for that I will find someone who will and is prepared to work and climb the ranks of the business in an honourable way.

Typical rant. This is not Julias fault. Your bias against her is showing. Current leaders of any country are not responsible for festering troubles that have gone on for years.

We could just as typically blame it all on you being an Aussie in the first place..

THESE WORKERS ARE HEROS!
They have shown that the people have the power and have cost Qantas millions already!
I can’t believe what Qantas is doing is legal, their workers deserve better pay but get treated like idiots while upper management increases their pay constantly.
The company has had a bad track record over the last few years.

HEROS?? Why? Because they cost their employer some money, unnecessarily? That is a very twisted outlook!

The issue seems to be pay. Yet the average, common man voted overwhelmingly for the exec pay raises:

Qantas shareholders also voted overwhelmingly in favour of Qantas' executive remuneration, with just four per cent of votes going against the package.

I think you've got your sticks mixed up...

Its not about pay, never has been. Its about job security and working conditions. The people who work for Qantas are great, and it has always been the top airline in the country. When times were tough, the employees gracefully took a pay hit. All they want is a statement from the management that they are not deliberately bringing Qantas down and offshoring all the assets. They just want the good thing to continue.
Offshoring is bad for the employees, bad for the customers, bad for the country but good for a small handful of shareholders. Who dont know what 'enough money' means.
The whole deal with Jetstar is accounting trickery using creative inter-company transfers. You can make the profit statement look great or terrible with a few simple clicks.
This action is almost as big as the OWS movement.
Lets hope the social media (cause it wont be the MSM) stays focussed on the truth and supports the workers. And its not about Julia or Tony. If Julia was to act properly here, she would fire Joyce and deport him.

The government should just take back Qantas and screw the useless shareholders. Did they not just approve this douchebag's 71% payrise the day before?

This is corporate terrorism by a foreign asshat that needs his balls kicked. He will need every bit of that 5 million dollar pay packet to secure himself from the Australian public.
