It's encouraging racial sterotypes.

Not every Arab is a maniac with a bomb strapped to him (as in that first picture) nor is every Japanese woman a geisha.

You Americans are so self-centred and narrow minded.

I expected nothing less.

So its our fault that you can't handle it? I mean are you a terrorist? No? Then so whats the problem.

It's just a reason for you to let out your unbridled hate, it all honesty its a non-issue as its a Halloween costume.

As if Halloween is some much respected religious holiday.

But Please stay inside your box of thought with your Hollywood movie Avatar.

I imagine it wouldn't.

If I was to dress as a Native American and paint my face red, would that be okay?

Actually both of those costumes are readily available.

So whats your point?

Hey look, not every Jew is a Rabbi either.

To offend most Americans, you would have to dress up as Jesus handing out condoms. Most mild racism is fine, it's religion and sexuality where the line gets crossed.

As as child, growing up in Texas, I used to see those costumes ads for children in the Sears-Roebuck catalog showing a kid in a Stetson hat, pointed toe boots, pearl-snapped-western-cut shirt, hand-tooled leather belts, and I tell ya' what...

A kid brought one of those pictures to first grade and showed me. Wearing my bright red pearl snap shirt and pointed-toe boots, I took that picture to show the teacher. I hooked my thumbs on my belt of my blue jeans, took long swaggering strides to the teachers desk, and asked, "You reckon they makin' fun of us?"
And she answered, "I reckon so, Frira-Bob; but don't pay it no mind. Now, you git, and amble on back to your desk, and get your hat, 'cause its 'bout time to go outside."
And I said, "I was just fixin' to."

People ain't got no call to go 'round stereo-typin', now do they?

(And, Yes, I'm really just braggin'!)

So some forms of racism are acceptable?

If I blacked my face up and started doing a caricature of a black man, no doubt that would be considered very offensive and in bad taste.

Yet some how these costumes are deemed a laugh and good fun.

Halloween is a load of tosh anyway, so why waste money on these costumes?

That's besides the point though.

Anyway that's my personal opinion about it all.

Who would be offended?

black people I know would laugh at you for being an idiot.

I never saw your point. Unless your point was lashing out at Americans.

Depends on how you sell it. Do it on a college campus and front as though your wearing blackface on Halloween is to mock the blackface era for all it's offensive grandeur.

Or stroll around Harlem in blackface on any random day shouting things about chicken and waffles.

One is a high and mighty statement the other is just racist.

So much "offense" is all about context and intent. Which in turn means offense itself is basically a personally fabricated notion based on a subjective interpretation of the source.

For heaven sake. Because a person dresses as a geisha girl, doesn't mean that every Asian is a Geisha. Nor does it mean every Arab is a terroist. The costume doesn't say "Dress as an Arab". It say "TERRORIST" and since most terrorist that we've seen in the last 20+ years have been Arabic, it's appropriate to get the gist of the customer across.

Because a person dresses like a red neck, doesn't mean that all white people are red necks. God... This nannism is WAY out of hand.

Uh... there's an entire day devoted to the steriotypical Irishman... Never have I heard a wee peep from a mic about it being offensive... but then maybe we're all just too drunk to care...

Cry me a freaking river!

If I were to wear a stereotypical costume, it would be a satire, and be more-so making fun of racists that actually believe that all Mexicans ride donkeys, or whatever the hell else this ad campaign is supposed to be portraying.

Would there be a huge outcry if a lot of minorities dressed up as hillbillies?

Honestly, I say they need to get over it. There have been costumes that spoof on stereo types, for a long time. That is not going to change.

Here is the thing. I know that these are stereo types and that Muslim people are not all terrorists and that Asian women are not all Geishas.

Anyone with common sense knows these are just costumes and meant for fun. I am from Texas and I have dressed up as a redneck. It's fun. Nothing more, nothing less.

PC is killing this country.

As a previous poster said, cry me a freaking river.

I really doubt it! I am from Texas and have dressed up as a redneck. Hell, we even have a mod here from Alabama who calls himself "TheRedneck".

This PC garbage, is so silly.... I wonder if they think that dressing up like Michael Myers is an unfair stereo type of serial killers.

Well, I am part Cherokee and I have no problem with you dressing as an Indian. I am also a descendent of the McCoy's as in the Hatfield and McCoy feud in Kentucky. So you can also dress like a hillbilly if you want, doesn't phase me in the least. We have more important issues in this country than worrying about if someones feelings got hurt or not. Grow up! This is the kinda crap that makes me wonder what the hell we are promoting in our universities! Apparently a good education towards a respectable career is NOT one of them!

How self centered and narrow minded of you to assume that all Americans are self centered and narrow minded. Last time I checked, you have never met me. I am willing to bet you have not met every person in the US, have you?

No, well, then how about YOU stop encouraging stereo types? Considering you find it so offensive.

You have no business complaining about stereo types and then turning around and perpetrating a freaking stereotype. Do you realize how dumb that makes you look? Do you realize how hypocritical your post really is?

Here is the deal, Some one wearing a costume of a terrorist, is not going to make everyone think that all people of the Islamic religion are Terrorists. Some one wearing a Geisha costume is not going to make everyone think that all Asians are Geisha's.

If anyone actually buys into stupid stereotypes than they are.... Stupid.

I am from Texas, I have worn a redneck costume. It is for fun and no one thought I was perpetrating the stereotype of rednecks.

People get offended way to easily and then turn around and say stupid things. I.E. "It's encouraging stereo types.... But Americans are self centered and narrow minded."

These things do not help your case... It only makes people laugh at you for saying something beyond dumb and hypocritical.

I am going to a Halloween party this year. I am dressing up as Michael Myers. Does this costume stereotype serial killers? If so, I don't care.

It is about having fun and the PC police look to ruin everything. It is a costume and no one with common sense will get offended by it. Why? Because it is a freaking costume!!!

I am from Texas and I welcome anyone and everyone to dress up as cowboys, rednecks, hillbillies and anything else they can think of that relates to Texas.

Happy Halloween.

Take that Geisha costume and put on some white face and call it Kabuki.

Last year I went as BA Baracas from the A-Team (Mr. T). Brown face paint, wig, false beard, blue coveralls, boots and all of the bling. I won the costume contest. The funny part was that 3 out of 5 of the judges were Black. They couldn't stop laughing.

I don't know anywhere that says that you have a right not to be offended, except on Liberal college campuses.

Sticks & Stones you know.

I could always dress up like a loser and say I'm a Dallas Cowboy!

J/K - I'm from Indianapolis so I have nothing more to say about that or anything related to football this year.
