Firece fighting between Jaysh al-Mahdi and occupation troops breaks out in al-Basrah area Friday and continues past midnight into the early hours
of Saturday.

al-Maqal, al-Karmah, and al-Qurnah in the area of al-Basrah. Numerous mortar shells have exploded and the sound of automatic weapons fire and heavy

Anglo-American butchers kill over 100 citizens of al-Basrah.
More than 100 Iraqi civilians were killed and and over 215 others wounded many of them seriously on Friday-Saturday night in al-Basrah in fighting
that raged between the British occupation forces and the Resistance. British armored forces and Anglo-American aircraft, including F-16 fighter
bombers, took part in the battle against the Jaysh al-Mahdi militia, loyal to Shii religious leader Muqtada as-Sadr.
According to the local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam, the British occupation troops destroyed 40 houses, some of them razed to the ground. At
the time his report was posted at 11:55am Saturday morning Mecca time (12:55pm local time) some of the victims of the Anglo-American attacks had still
not been removed from under the rubble.
Fifty cars were damaged or destroyed in the fighting that raged intensely until 7:00am Saturday morning local time. The local correspondent wrote
that British forces in the city were intent of keeping a total lid of secrecy on the bloody fighting and the number of victims, to the point that
hospitals in the city refuse to release casualty figures. The correspondent obtained his figures from what he described as private sources.
The secrecy was caused, he wrote, by the fact that the Jaysh al-Mahdi was being opposed by a coalition of the Badr Brigades the armed wing of the
Shi chauvinist and collaborationist so-called Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) organization and the Shii chauvinist and
collaborationist Dawah Party both of which hotly object to the Jaysh al-Mahdis opposition within the Shii community to the US occupation of Iraq.
The collaborationist chauvinist parties have been carrying out campaigns of assassinations against Sunni leaders in al-Basrah recently and are not
above attempting to spark a sectarian war in the country so as to push the Shii masses into the arms of Shii clerics interested in building their
power at the expense of the country.
Unlike the pro-American SCIRI and Dawah Party, however, the Jaysh al-Mahdi with its line of opposing the US occupation has won a wide following among
the masses of Shii youth of al-Basrah and throughout southern Iraq, threatening the authority of the conservative chauvinist clerics.
It is believed that the massive Anglo-American strikes on civilian targets in al-Basrah were prompted by the desire of Washington and London to try to
turn the populace of al-Basrah against the Jaysh al-Mahdi. The Anglo-American aim apparently is to try to get the populace of the city to call for
the expulsion of the Jaysh al-Mahdi from the city a move that would allow the chauvinist collaborationist Shii clerics a free hand in the second
largest city of Iraq.
British occupation arrests 300 suspected Jaysh al-Mahdi supporters in al-Basrah Friday.
British aggressor troops on Friday arrested some 300 Jaysh al-Mahdi fighters in the course of their attempt to repress the Resistance organization in
al-Basrah. The British invaders had earlier used the ruse of issuing notices of job offers to attract young people whose names and addresses were
taken down. Later those lists were used in the roundups of suspected militiamen.

al-Mahdi and British aggressors. The local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Jaysh al-Mahdi destroyed two British Landrovers with
rocket-propelled grenades at 11:30pm local time, killing six British troops and wounding two others. In his dispatch posted at 11:10pm Mecca time
(12:10am Sunday, local time) the correspondent said the fighting was still under way.
Resistance bombards British headquarters in al-Basrah.
Resistance fighters carried out a missile attack on the Presidential Palace in the al-Barradii area of al-Basrah a building complex now used by the
British occupation forces as their headquarters. The al-Faruq Brigades Resistance organization fired four powerful Grad rockets at the compound at
11:45pm local time Saturday night.
