If they truly want to distract you from something that is happening, odds are Twitter, Facebook, and various other sites (if not all of the Internet) will suffer an unexplained failure at the same time.

If they wanted to crackdown on anti-government or anti-banking protesters, then this would be a perfect window, as it would allow law enforcement agencies in far-flung locations to enact a previously planned round-up, without the coordination afforded by social media.

I'd be surprised if any of the Occupy locations are equipped with HAM radios, and more so if they had an uninterruptable power supply for those radios.

Mostly, I'd say if the outage of these media concerns you, make a plan in advance to meet up with anyone not at home at the time. Pick a location that will be easy enough for all family members to reach, and decide on a time limit for waiting. This is probably something you should do anyway, considering all that seems to be coming down the pipe. (Naturally, you'll have to prepare for the possibility it's all a paranoid delusion, as well. So, like, don't hammer your cell phone into dust before going to your rendezvous.)

It should be interesting for those who 'hear no evil, see no evil' given that audio and text, "may vary" especially if there are those two in one room.

Honestly this doesn't surprise me at all. I guess I always assumed that the government had the power to do something like this.

@ theporch
That was my first thought.
This is not a test – it is a demonstration. A test would be done at 4:00 AM so it would inconvience as few as possible.

So, is this a threat against us internet information traders?

I am unsure why anyone is concerned about this. We used to have these all the time when I was growing up. The Emergency Broadcast System was put into place in 1963 and was to be used primarily in case of nuclear attack. It was during the Cold War obviously and the exercise is continued today.

All TV and radio stations are required to conduct a test like this every week between the hours of 0830 and sunset. However they are not required to submit their results. So, in this case, the Federal Gov't is having all of them do it at the same time to test its efficiencies and determine if any are not working correctly.

""This is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. The broadcasters of your area in voluntary cooperation with the Federal, State and local authorities have developed this system to keep you informed in the event of an emergency. If this had been an actual emergency, (optional -- stations may mention the types of emergencies likely to occur in their area) the Attention Signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news or instructions. This station (optional -- insert station call sign) serves the (operational area name) area. This concludes this test of the Emergency Broadcast System."

It all comes down to a lack of trust in the people who are shutting the communications down, it all started with 9/11

Did you just crawl from under a rock?? Just kidding....it's one of three things:

A. Complete collapse of the world economy
B. An E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event - think of one yourself)
C. Another way the government will use propaganda and strip our freedoms by taking over the airwaves

Feel free to add to the list.....

You know certanly well that there has to be a percentage of people that might actually loose it, even knowing of it ahead of time. I am sure if TPTB do this there will be some incident's.

That nicely highlights my quote:

If it was a test, why isn't it done when it would inconvenience as few people as possible?

I don't care and I have no control over the matter anyways, but a little examination and critical thought goes a long way when it comes to understanding the intentions of anything.

You think the fact that they declared it a test doesn't already say maybe its just that? This conversation is not for you.

What is "baiz"? Bye? That's genius.

Could it be a test of the Emergency Broadcast System?

I would think they have to test it sometimes I mean unless there really is no alarm system in place and THAT is the conspiracy, somebody is just broadcasting re-verb.

No seriously I think this is a test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

Crazy as that may sound.

i personally feel that the tptb want's too see if the majority of our population goes crazy without the inclusion of jersey shore and the likes.... or music on the radio. if they added in phones and internet people would go nut's in major cities.

So we never learned anything from the boy who cried wolf. There is already a functioning emergency alert system, why does there have to be a federally controlled one now?

This is not free, I'm paying for it. Shutting down communications also has an economic affect, a negative one. It's a dumb idea no matter how you look at it, we already have quite a good emergency alert system that relies on the same communication networks that they are shutting down. As soon as a strong wind is coming we hear about it on tv or on the internet, it makes no sense to have a federal emergency alert system for something that is already in perfect working order. I really don't want to fork out the money I work hard for going toward something stupid.
