First thing I thought when I seen the footage. No matter who it is. You cannot slay a defenseless person in the streets and think it is ok.

note : many heads of state have endorsed the actions of the rebels.

UN human rights group are correct in calling for an investigation. Graphic footage being released shows Gadhafi fighting for his life, bleeding heavily while ridden with bullet wounds. Gadhafi can be seen pleading for mercy, stating "what have I ever done to you"

Human Rights Laws

Here are a few important snippets from the UN Human Rights Law. That are relevant to his death, the rest can be found in the link above.

Article 5.

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 6.

Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.

Article 7.

All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination.

I know, I thought the way in which he was killed was appalling.
Not exactly a great way to start a new, peaceful and democratic society is it?

By beating and kicking and shooting a 70 year old man to death.

Sick....

It was terrible how it was all done. So many things they say will be and should be investigated ... But rarely anything comes out of it wherever America/UK or America's/UK's greed is concerned.

Official story at the moment from the head of the NTC is that Gaddafi was killed in crossfire between rebels who captured him and loyalist forces, after he was captured. Whether this is accurate or not remains to be seen.

My question now is, what happens to all the rebels that were armed by NATO, America & UK?

Do they see the same fate of Afghanistan v Russia???

Reuters

GENEVA (Reuters) - The United Nations human rights office called on Friday for a full investigation into the death of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and voiced concerns that he may have been executed. Separate cellphone images showed a wounded and bloodied Gaddafi first alive and then later dead amidst a jostling crowd of anti-Gaddafi fighters after his capture in his hometown of Sirte on Thursday. "There's a lot of uncertainty about what happened exactly. There seem to be four or five different versions of how he died," U.N. human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told Reuters Television in an interview. "If you take these two videos together, they are rather disturbing because you see someone who has been captured alive and then you see the same person dead. "We are not in a position to say what has happened at this point but we feel that it is very important that this is clarified, that there is some sort of serious investigation into what happened and what caused his death," he said. Asked whether the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay was concerned Gaddafi may have been executed while in captivity, Colville replied: "It has to be one possibility when you look at these two videos. So that's something that an investigation needs to look into," he said. ARRESTED ALIVE, KILLED LATER It is a fundamental principle of international law that people accused of serious crimes should be tried if possible, he said. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in June for Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam and intelligence chief for crimes against humanity. "Summary executions are strictly illegal under any circumstances. It's different if someone is killed in combat. There was a civil war taking place in Libya. So if the person died as part of combat, that is a different issue and that is normally acceptable under the circumstances," Colville said. "But if something else has happened, if someone is captured and then deliberately killed, then that is a very serious matter," he said. Gaddafi was fatally wounded by a bullet in his intestines following his capture, according to a doctor who examined his body, amid conflicting accounts of how the fugitive former Libyan leader met his end at the end of an eight-month uprising against his 42-year rule. "Gaddafi was arrested while he was alive but he was killed later. There was a bullet and that was the primary reason for his death, it penetrated his gut," doctor Ibrahim Tika told Al Arabiya television. "Then there was another bullet in the head that went in and out of his head." Earlier, Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril, reading what he said was a post-mortem report, said Gaddafi was hauled unresisting from a "sewage pipe", shot in the arm and put in a truck which was "caught in crossfire" as it ferried him to hospital. Jerky footage showed a man with Gaddafi's distinctive long, curly hair, bloodied and staggering under blows from armed men, apparently NTC fighters. An international commission of inquiry, launched by the U.N. Human Rights Council, is already investigating killings, torture and other crimes in Libya. Colville said he expected that the team would look into the circumstances of Gaddafi's death and perhaps make recommendations about the need for a full national inquiry or an international investigation.

They showed videos earlier and he was apparently saying "This is not the Islamic way" and "Do you not know right from wrong"

It was pretty awful.

I think it's this video

*Warning, this is harrowing stuff*

Also just realised that the video below is when they capture him and load him ON TO THE TRUCK.

And this when is where they UNLOAD HIM FROM TRUCK AND KILL HIM.

*warning, also disturbing*

So we have the first and second part of this series of events.

ETA:

Also now a third video has emerged, I think the final video?

I hadn't seen this video before. I am appalled by this. People may say he's done worse in his life, but still this is no way to treat, kill, punish and video anyone.

No to retribution

The transitional regimes that took power must ultimately work towards peaceful transitions to democracy.

The same applies to Libya where beyond asserting its authority, the National Transitional Council also has the task of establishing its own legitimacy in countering perceptions that it is nothing but a lackey of the western Nato military alliance that played a critical role in defeating Gaddafi’s military.

This also must not be the time for retribution. Accounts of the manner in which Gaddafi was killed after capture signal an inauspicious start for a new leadership that must rise above savage bloodlust.

it's the one where you see him alive being dragged by rebels before he is shot, seconds before he is shot. I can't remember if it was my local news or CNN but I will try and find the video. Watch for when he uses his hands to plead this statement as he is dragged.

I know.... seriously awful.

I don't think anyone would say the guy was a saint or even a nice guy, but this kind of thing just sets humanity back... It's just sickening, shocking, barbaric and inhumane to do this.

Even if it was Gaddafi, we only know of bad things he's done apparently to his people via our beloved mainstream media. Do we always really believe that?

Yeah, this has sent us way back, back to our days in the caves. What's the difference between us now?

We advanced so much over the Years just to step back into the past again???

Well the thing is, there are people on the news saying things about human rights and so on.

I mean, WE (as in UK, US, The UN) only tracked him and carried out aerial assaults.... the people who actually dragged him out and beat/killed him are not "us".

This is what I'm thinking they're trying to go for.

They're not quite distancing themselves (Clinton, Obama, Cameron, Sarkozy) but I think if it comes to it and if asked about it, they'll say "well we would have like to see him tried"

BULLSNIP!!!

They're glad he died... he could have probably spilled the beans and dropped a few people in it... if he had his day in court, there would be a few red-faces.... much like Bin Laden, which is why they offed him too.

Man...

All of this is just awful.
