Oh cmon, this is pointless rant. When I was a kid I thought how cool would to be an american, and then.... I grew up. Learned few things, read few good books, and observed closely course of history.

Why the hell would complain that hollywood places their movies in US, seems kinda logic.
My first thought here is that until we drop this whole nationality differences, we'll just be herded like a cattle. Im talking about tolerance, not homogenization here.

Second thought, knowing how happy-trigger americans are, approaching aerial object would be propably shot down, if communication wouldn't be reached. So much for first encounter. If they would manage to land, first to show would be people pointing guns at them. Not a good first impression.

My proposition would be Germany, or some other country with more common sence.

I think many Americans will be dissappointed becayse many of them think they are the most important country in the world.

Assuming the aliens arrived tomorrow completely out of the blue and had friendly intentions of making contact with us through purely physical means (they came in ships), it'd be reasonable to expect they'd land where the most people are located. I'd guess China or India.

If they were hostile, however, there's a good chance the USA would be high on the checklist, though not alone.

I don't get it. I'm an American, I work hard, 60-70 hours a week to support my family and lifestyle, don't ask any one for help but am willing to and do help those that need it. I own a lot of guns because I like to hunt and shoot and I am fiercely protective of my right to do so, as are most of my friends. We don't spend time bashing other countries (except maybe France.. just kidding) and as a rule spend zero time thinking we are the center of the world, the only time I see or hear that is on these forums and from people that don't live in America. We may agree or disagree with what our elected officials do but hopefully we can eventually vote them out of office. The average person in the US doesn't want to give away billions of dollars in foreign aid, probable to the countries where a lot of the America bashers live, and don't like policing the world. Remember a great many of you would be speaking German right now without the USA. We have the same worries that you have, our children, our homes,our careers and our futures. We could give a rats arse where a UFO would land. In the opinion of pretty much all of the people I know the rest of the world is more then welcome to sort out their own problems...hows the EU working out for you guys or immigration or any of the other things that we also deal with? Seems like we all have problems to deal with other than bashing America... Just saying

Shouldn't everyone think that their own country is the best? If you don't, why the hell do you stay there? Just move....too easy.

Why all the American bashing? Hell we can't stand our government and the actions they take on other countries and territories either. We want our family home. I have 3 cousins over there fighting for reasons they aren't clear about but the government is paying for their schooling so they do what they are told. They may not like it but it's what they know and have been involved in so long they forget what the fight is about besides providing for their family. Here when we fight in a bar or something it's usually personal. What are any troops fighting for over there but an agenda that they are no part of.

My point is Americans do not believe they are better than everyone else.

You're curious why your threads are being removed? Perhaps because you are not looking for a genuine answer to a genuine question but rather are behaving like a troll looking to America-bash. Right, who cares if Americans (or the citizen of any other country in the world) thinks their country is the best? How does that affect you, in any way whatsoever? The OP seems less upset that Americans think their country is the best and more that we (or anyone else) would have the audacity to believe his isn't the best.

I think you misread, though the sentiment is still as revolting. He blames an attitude of American exceptionalism on Germans and Jews, not that they are the only Americans who think they are the best.

If they turned up in front of me, I'd take them to Singapore. It's shiny, clean, great food, pretty neutral politically and has everyone from everywhere on the planet in the one place. I love it for a 2-3 day rest during a long haul and if you've just schlepped a couple of dozen parsecs, I could think of nowhere nicer for a lay over.

Seems to me that this thread is just and anti-American rant. It may not have started out that way and may not have intended to be so, but that's what it is now. Too bad there is so much hatred and intolerance in the world. I hope that one day that will change and we can all be better humans for it.

Also Hollywood is in the USA and that might be the real reason most films are produced here. It may be too expensive to film abroad for most film companies wishing to keep their budgets low. Not all of them have huge bank accounts like George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg or Peter Jackson.

What you complaining to us for? Its not like the members on ATS dictate what Hollywood does. Nor most of us Americans.

OT: I wouldn't care were they landed, I would be to busy pissing my pants in excitement. If their friendly, I would be a little disappointed they weren't as near as I wanted them to be but what ya going do? If there hostile? Gives me more time to prepare.

Also who said the Aliens would only land in one nation? They could send a ambassador ship to every major power.

I don't waste a lot of time wondering which country is "best." That's goofy provincialism. What's the point? I live where I live because I was born near here and all of my family and friends live here.

I don't think the US is the center of the world, and to be perfectly honest -- I don't really care. Why should I? I am a lot more interested in being a good human then I am being a "good American."
