WELL, FINALLY A PROUD GUN OWNER!!!! Any advice for classes, cleaning, maintenance?

Well I finally bought my first gun. A .22 handgun I got for protection. After an altercation about 8 months ago with a pack of wild thugs, I did alot of thinking about getting protection. I am more than capable of close quarters hand to hand combat, but what IF the time came and that wasnt enough? I went to the gun show today and got a nice little .22 handgun for 120 dollars!!!! Again this is my first firearm so was wondering if anybody has any advice about maybe a class or something? Should I get a CCW or just open carry? I live in an open carry state. Anyhow, just wanted to get a little advice from people and say how PROUD I actually feel as an american to have this right. Glad I got in before the Obama dictatorship took away our right

Practice with it until you are comfortable, confident, and can hit a soup can at 50 feet every time. Then get something bigger and start all over again.

Go for a Concealed Permit. Open carry is problematic unless you are rural.

The only real reason an American carries a gun is because they are "secretly" are just waiting for an excuse to use it... bad attitude.

Gun's should be banned, hell here in the UK even our police cant carry them around and look at us, you American's need to get a grip and apply a bit of logic to your "shooting spree" country, you seem to think "I need a gun because other people have gun's" well... if they are banned no-one will have guns...

i have heard some rubbish in my time, but this beats the lot of them! someone who buys a gun and doesn`t know anything about weapons and is proud to own it! get a life before you take a life! try living here in the UK because we don`t need or use guns. cops don`t carry them either unless a loony tune is using it to kill others or threaten people with one. if we all bought a gun here just because we had a bit of bother because someone gave us bother, we would be in the same mess as your country! utter crap that statement of your, PROUD? you should be ASHAMED!

I think the Brits need to understand something about us Americans... gun control laws don't work. This I know for a fact, how? I grew up in a rough neighborhood and even as teens the guys all had guns. BTW none of the guns were legal. The criminal element will always know how to get weapons leaving average people pretty much defenseless. I grew up with a rifle in my parents house and we all knew that we were never to touch it, it was for protection only.We were taught that gun ownership was a serious responsibility.Not everyone belongs owning a gun, but for those of us that take it serious we know that its an honor and a right to own one.

Gee, our "shooting spree" country doesn't seem to have 1/100th of the riots and fires your arson happy country has. Maybe if those shop owners were able to point a shotgun at one of the rioters with a petrol bomb their store wouldn't be in ashes.

Whats a more likely situation?

1. The conspiracy theorist are right and the new world order will unfold and I'll be left with Ryu to defend me.

2. Some nut case who has a gun (maybe you?) who has a licensed gun goes on a killing spree and within the carnage your father/mother/sister/brother/aunt is killed even though they are innocent...

Lets play a game I'll wake up at 7AM and your wake up at 7AM we will both watch the local news, then we will both note down how many shooting's we hear about the person with the least total wins!

Could they speak, millions upon millions of this world's dead souls would testify to this truth. Millions upon millions of the living can so testify today. Now - today - isa critical moment in our history.

Will we Americans passively lie down before a government grown disdainful of its best citizens? Or will we again declare:

WE are the government, government functions at our behest, and it may not rescind our sacred rights? Will we place our faith in public servants who behave like our masters? Or will we place our faith in the words and deeds of the daring, far-seeing men and women whose blood, sweat and tears brought forth this great nation?

Will we believe those who assure us that the police officer will shield us from the criminal? Or will we believe our eyes and ears, presented every day with news of our unarmed neighbors falling prey in their homes, on our streets, in our places of work and play?

Will we bow our heads to cowards and fools who will not learn and do not understand the lessons of human history? Or will we stand straight and assume the daily tasks and risks that liberty entails? Will we ignore even the lessons of this present era-which has seen the cruel oppression of millions on the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and South America-and believe that the continent of North America is immune to such political disease? Or will we wisely accept the realities of this world, wisely listen to and make use of the precautions provided by our ancestors?

Will we be deceived by shameless liars who say that disarmament equals safety, helplessness equals strength, patriotism equals criminality? Or will we mark the words of our forefathers, who wrote in plain language: The right of the people tokeep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

Let us make known: We will choose the latter option in every case.

Legislators: Do your duty to your country. Uphold the Constitution as you swore to do. Do not shame yourselves by knocking loose the mighty keystone of this great republic - the right to bear arms.

Justices: Do your duty to your country. Examine the origins of our right to weaponry and uphold the letter and spirit of the Constitution.

Lawmen: Do your duty to your country. Do not be misguided and misused. Your task is to serve and to protect-not to oppress, to disarm and to make helpless your countrymen. To the blind, the ignorant, the apathetic, the safe and sheltered, these may seem to be concerns of another age. They are not. They are as vital as they ever have been through history. For times may change but human nature does not. And it is to protect forever against the evil in human nature that the Founding Fathers set aside certain rights as inviolable.

For these reasons we must now make known:

We will not passively take the path that leads to tyranny. We will not go down that road. We Will Not Disarm.
