However, I would vote to legalize it as I really don't see a problem with it being legal. Plus it would also help to keep young girls from falling into the path of prostitution, I saw a special on CNN a while back it was really sad. I could not believe how many young girls were forced into it each year

Um, a prostitute is a prostitute. Legalizing doesnt change that fact. All it does is keep them out of jail. If you think seeing young girls being forced into the sex slave trade is bad now wait until it becomes legal. You change nothing, and you may in fact make it worse because brothels would spring up all over the place. It would be like the 1800's all over again except everyone wouldn't be packing pistols. If were going to slide back 140 years to the wild west days, then they may as well go ahead and legalize drug use, and remove the laws against carrying firearms for all people. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Actually you're wrong. If you legalize it then there would have to be some regulations. One of which would be that people can't hire prostitutes that are under 18 which is what she's talking about.

This is just a silly argument. Guys, we ALWAYS pay for it in one way or another. If your single and go to a bar and pick up a woman, you buy her a drink or a room or a cab home. PAID for it. If you have a girlfriend or are dating someone you buy her flowers, go on dates and buy food, drinks whatever. PAID for it. If you are married, you have a morgage, car payments, you have to buy a wedding ring, ect to keep your wife happy....PAID for it. All these people that say paying for sex is immoral and should be illegal are apparently virgins, hypocrites or completely out of touch with reality. If you are a guy and you have had sex, money HAS been involved and you HAVE paid for it in one way or another.

Wrong. When you pay for sex you are paying for the act itself. Just because you buy a woman flowers, and take her to dinner does not guarantee you sex the way it does when you rent a prostiture for the specific purpose of boning her. Or have you never gone on a date and didn't get your rut on? This isn't the wild west you don't trade money or horse and mules for wives. Not everyone goes on dates for the specific purpose of getting their freak on, some people just want to spend their time with another person or make a friend or take the relationship slow.

I am dumbfounded.

As a woman, I obviously have never paid my way...never gone Dutch...never bought a house myself...never supported my partner financially. That's because I am incapable...because in your mind all women are whores? We're just out for what we can get...and all you poor men are the victims?

I must have been doing something wrong here - all the education...the hard work...the hard ship. When I could have just exchanged some sex for a bite of dinner or a drink. That would make it all worth it...

Yep - I see why you guys think you need to pay for it.

I think I am in a partnership with my man...not a parasitic relationship.

How would you feel if your mother or sister was a prostitute. Would you be proud, or would you try to help her get out of it?

Right and since when has regulations ever stopped bad things from happening or kept people from abusing it? Look at alcohol. After the prohibition was lifted, sure the boot leggers made alot less money, but in the long run was it worth it? People still violate regulations on drinking and driving. In fact you have more deaths attributed to alcohol now then you did in the prohibition. Thousands of people die everyday in alcohol related deaths, specifically related to drinking and driving. Did we really change anything or make it better after lifting the prohibition? No we did not. Did we make things alot worse? Yes we did, now not only do we have drinking and driving but now kids that are 14-15 years old are turning up alcoholics . Just because you make something legal does not mean it will make things better and in fact in every other case in history when something got legalized people were still abusing the regulations, making it legal didn;t make a damned thing better. People are going to break the law no matter what you legalize or how much you regulate it. The only thing the government can do is impose fines and make money off of other people's suffering. Does that seem morally gray to you? It does to me.

I personally wouldn't prostitute myself no matter how bad my financial life is. That said, I think it should be legalized. Take the brothels in Nevada or where ever it is by Vegas. All the girls are there on their own will, are tested every 2 weeks for disease and aids, it's clean, they are their own contractors, they pay a small house fee of like 40 dollars a night to stay there. they choose who they want to 'party' with, etc etc. I think if it was legalized, we'd see safer sex than having a random street girl in a back seat.

Illegal would still sadly happen though. I don't know what the world can do to stop child prostitution and so on. That turns my tummy so hard.

Try looking at India.

Legal - and also a haven for sex tourists and paedophiles. Many of the prostitutes pull their daughters into the trade - theres often no escape due to poverty and the caste system.

The prostitutes have little money to buy prophylactics to protect themselves and must see many clients a day to eat. Is that really a life choice.

Is it consent...or necessity.

He is from Texas. That explains it all right there. Ask him how he'd feel if Texas legalized mexicans crossing the border and evicted texans out of their homes and squatted on their property. Hey it would be legal so it makes it right yea? Just because they can do something doesn't always mean that they should

You misunderstand, I wasn't talking about about hanging out with someone or spending time with someone. In situations were sex is involved money is moved around somewhere or you don't get any.

Interesting.

Lets not forget that several proven reputable studies by peer reviewed academics say human trafficking and other black market related crime GO UP when you create a regulated market for things like prostitution.

For example, an area where prostitution is legal, regulated, or at least ignored by law enforcement authorities creates an "island effect" where purveyors and providors congregate. Sex tourism hotspots such as Amsterdam and Thailand have a high percentage of visitors for sex tourism, and not just for the kind that is considered legal and regulated. Consider that if there are a higher percentage of potential sex customers in a given area, "specialty" human traffickers offering underage sex workers to patrons will also be higher. If you make an area a destination for sex, it will see an increase in fringe crime associated with it, regardless of the overall compliance of the "legitimate" businesses. Also remember, these ventures, legal or not, were historically controlled by organized crime associates.

I wonder how many legal brothels worldwide also have an illegal back room offering undergae girls or boys for sex? I wonder how many otherwise legal adult immigrant women working in a countrys sex industry were coerced from their homes under flase pretenses or threats. Theres no real way to measure the impact except to compare it to local phenomenon and guess.

For example gun crime in the US is astronomically higher than other countries who have very stringent firearms laws. Yet the overall percentage of legal guns used for crime is underwhelmingly low when compared to the total number of legal firearms in private hands. So one could argue that the regulated firearms market is as a percentage, very lawful. Yet, the increased availability could cause a ripple effect in crime rates since guns are easier to obtain by criminals as well.

Food for thought.

Lonesome - if I wasn't attached you'd be the kind of guy who'd melt my cold, Scottish heart!

However, a prostitution thread isn't the best place on the net to flirt!

You see guys, those of you who think women are just out to be bought are wrong. You'd be faster into the bedroom if you were moral and sensitive. And with gsoh.

Works every time.

So you can honestly tell me that you have had sex with someone and no money was involved on his part in any way at any time? You probably have unless you only had sex with broke homeless guys right there on the street corner for no reason at all. I am not calling anyone a whore, a parasite, or anything else. I wouldn't do that, it's just rude. That's just how things go is all, I don't know why, I didn't make the world. It's just the truth, if a guy is having sex, money is involved most of the time.

Let's be realistic. Nobody really ever has to pay for sex.
If a man is paying for sex, he just needs to lower his standards.
I used to bartend and every night there was at least one woman willing to give it for free.

Regarding men who want to have sex with little girls, this isn't prostitution. It's called CRIME.

Legalizing prostitution would greatly increase the chances of spreading sexually transmitted diseases. Not everyone is smart enough to buy protection or use it if they have it. There's an old joke that goes something like this:

"God gave man a brain and a penis, but only enough blood to use one at a time."

Legalizing prostitution is a door that should not be opened, just because it works in carson city Nevada at the Bunny Ranch does not mean it is going to work everywhere else. If anything i suspect that the crime rate concerning rapes would happen more frequently due to poverty. Poor people cannot afford to rent a prostitute, so what do you think the next alternative is for them? Theyre going to find someone to force their desires onto and the prostitutes will be the most likely candidates because they are willing to give it up anyway. Prostitution would sky rocket in the poorer classes and remain unchanged for the rich and wealthy with the exception of a selection of classier women with less chances of sexually transmitted diseases than the poor. See? Prime example right there of nothing getting better and in fact making a bigger problem than there was before.

Stop making women out as whores.

That's all you'll find otherwise.

I'm thinking "live and let live". Set some standards to provide for safety/hygiene//taxes and let them have at it.

There is a certain stigma associated with it anyway, for all parties involved. That will always remain, legal or not.
But it should be a personal choice.
