Obviously your only use for a computer is being on forums or youd know how many businesses run on Mac.

How dare you! Have some respect for the dead, man! Steve Jobs was a great man. He revolutionized the computer and cell phone industry, he pretty much created mp3 players! He gave a lot of money to all different types of charity. That's his contribution. He's an icon. What are you going to leave behind when you die?

He did not create the MP3 player. He actually took an expired patent from 1979. They even called the guy that invented the original in to testify in a lawsuit. Somebody was suing Apple for patent infringement. Apple basically said, "we didn't steal your technology we took this guy's idea." After he came and bailed them out of the jam they still refused to pay him anything for his invention.
Apple Admits iPod created by Briton

He did not revolutionize the cellphone industry. The IBM/Bell South Simon was introduced in 1992 with a touch screen and qwerty keyboard. It was the first smart phone.
IBM Simon

To all of the people that believe he made it possible to be creative and record music on the computer, get over it. Pro Tools the industry standard software for audio was created by two UC Berkley students. They were much more responsible for the move to DAWs than nearly anyone.

Cake Walk's Sonar, Sony's Acid and Sound Forge, as well as Steinberg's Cubase run on PC and are competitive if not superior in some ways to Pro Tools. Sony Vegas Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Avid DS allow professional level video editting on the PC that rivals Final Cut. Steve Jobs did not invent using computers for creative aplications and he did not own the companies that invented the technology.

Steve Jobs was a good businessman and salesman. A lot of the things he gets credit for inventing, he didn't. He had a knack for taking other people's ideas and repackaging them. His salesmanship was second to none and it made him a ton of money. It doesn't make him the "greatest inventor since Eddison" as one news cast called him.

I feel that what Mr. Jobs gave us was to make it easier for the knobs in govt the ability to track our every webpage, phone call, bowel movement, etc. How much was Mr. Jobs worth before he died? I guess it just goes to show ya....it doesn't matter who you are, how much money you make......we are all susceptible to the same bruises, cuts, diseases, broken bones, lacerations, and bullet holes as any other HUMAN BEING. Thank you Steve!

So, Steve Jobs is dead... but what did he really give us?!?!,

Wow that's a very good title....(Sarcasm)!..... Well you are saying what did he give us. I will answer you on that, he has given us an opportunity, and he gave his life to do what he loved doing and that was computers/electronics....Now don't be jumping to conclusions about how I think Steve Jobs is a GOD, whoever posted that thread earlier should be banned.... He gave us the knowledge we needed to know how to become successful like he did. RIP Steve

We all know Apple products are expensive, but they have every right to be. They are pioneers in the business. If people complain about how expensive Apple products are, then just don't buy Apple products! Simple. No one is holding a gun to your head...These threads need to stop there is no conspiracy behind this.

And unless you live in a third world country and dont buy any imported goods then you cant talk either. Ohhhhh wait you have a computer made by some slave in a sweat shop damn. Everyone adds to the slaves working for nothing in other countries. Get your head out of your ass!

I can talk, guy. My environmental impact on this planet is tiny and my business operations have resulted in zero suicides. Also, some of the products I own were likely produced by children who would otherwise be living on the street because their parents can't afford them.

I think you've missed the point... Providing a long list of corporate achievements does not negate the fact that Apple has used, and continues to use, an exploited workforce. It has used suppliers who deliberately pollute the environment. And it has invented gadgets that, in my humble opinion, make us more narcissistic and inward thinking...

Muckster, I couldn't help but notice you are posting on the internet. This means you are using some sort of computer or smartphone or other electronic gadget. Regardless of the brand it IS made from parts made in China, therefore I find your whole argument rather hypocritical. In America we have a saying, "Put up or shut up."

[Mods: I'm not telling him to literally shut up. I'm using figurative language to make a point about the irony of using a computer to tell us how evil computers are.]

But Muckster, you're right about the narcissism. I feel like a space alien walking amongst a crowd of people with their noses buried in their phones. One pet peeve of mine: a couple will be at a restaurant both sitting there texting the whole time and not talking! Why even go out?!?!

THE LOST ART OF FACE-TO-FACE INTERACTION!

is it me or is some of these deaths too coincidental? he just happens to step down and die shortly after. and what is it with all the sicknesses i've seen lately with these public people. i truly believe the earth is cleansing itself of the people or should i say reptilian and artificially cloned people. amy winehouse dead. justin beiber got sick. taylor swift sick. sean kingston sick.even loretta lynn got sick. theres even a rumor that gaga died. i truly believe these so called hoaxes are not hoaxes at all. i watched the movie the sixth man and it showed how they can make a clone in no time!!

Or did it ever occur to you that maybe he stepped down because he was sick? But no, that's too logical, better come up with something crazier.

He's been deteriorating over the past five years, as has been obvious to anyone who's followed him. Just look at photos of the Apple conference for the past 5 years and each year he has lost weight and is looking worse. A year or two ago he took a medical leave for a liver transplant.

Amy Winehouse had a drug problem. People get sick all the time, Justin and Taylor do not have a chronic illness, they just caught an infection. Lady Gaga is not dead, that rumor has been circulating for years, and I hear the same thing about every celebrity.

A man who has been sick for years passed away, after stepping down from his company due to his illness. Make of it what you will, but if you see conspiracy here my advice to you is to step outside everyonce in awhile and get some fresh air.

Let me just drop my .02 maybe .03 here

Steve Jobs was a visionary, he excelled at being a CEO, a SALESMAN and was a very engenious MARKETEER. Period.
But INVENTOR??? Really? I don't think so.

Most of apple's products had technologies licensed/robbed from other companies, although I must say that APPLE had a way of puttinhg them together rather nicelly in an useable way, they were always over-hyped because of Job's marketing genius.

Jobs != Apple, Jobs != Apple's R&D.

I really can not comprehend how people are glorifing this guy, he was a SHARK persuing proffit.
He did lead his company into being a pioneer mostlly releasing a few products (yes, quality products put nicelly together, but nothing spectacular) ahead of the competition.

He was a visionary, a human being, and deserves respect, but not as much as some would like and how the MSM is reporting on his death, like he was a hero or a messiah or something. Get real people.
I guess that the media folks are part of the iHerd also. I can't stand the fanboyism of apple's maniacs, apple products are good, but not the supreme only ones in the universe products.

R.I.P Steve.

I don't really see the point in insinuating I am a child or teenager, but go ahead and flame me if you must, I really don't care. I have my opinion and you have yours. Live and let live.

I will not reply anymore to anyone who wish to flame me for my my opinion.

No actually I didn't know until you specified. So you are mad at Steve Jobs because of his marketing knowledge? Regardless of the matter being is you are the same age I am. Steve Jobs was doing things before we were born, I respect the guy because, I learned about computers on a MAC in the late 90's...

Ohhh, and this isn't a LOL thing either, your the one trying to be a smart ass, and don't debate with me please. I will rip you up.

S+F

I brought up many of these points this morning actually and was mostly flamed to high heaven. Interesting quote however on an article questioning his ability to donate to foundations and the like.

"Henry Ford believed his production workers should be able to afford what they manufactured. Jobs did not."

www.washingtonpost.com...

The man was intelligent and he brought us cool toys. So what? I have never owned an apple product and to be honest, I probably never will. I dont like to associate myself with corporate greed that extends to a length that even on his death bed a multi billionaire couldnt even donate a single cent to help the starving and poor. Instead, 4 spoiled brats will split roughly 8 billion dollars between themselves and never have to work a day in their life while the people that actually create their wealth slave for under a dollar a day in some Chinese sweat shop. But thats Capitalism isnt it? No thats slavery.

Maybe you didn't really understand what I wrote. Who said I'm mad at him? Where did you get that? I think the guy was a very very clever marketeer, that's all. Yet I don't particularlly love the guy, I don't hate him either.

Now what I said is I can't stand iFanboyism. To make myself clear here, I can't stand any sort of fanboyism.
The fact that Job's marketing skills somewhat encouraged this behaviour never made me hated him for that, on contraire, I applaud him for convincing(misleading IMO) so many people into buying his overpriced iToys.

get it?

I'm just saying we learned on MAC's. He is a good guy all around he did make Apple, because he gave them the name, because of his marketing skills...And I know I wrote late 90's on how I learned computers on a MAC I meant 80's, because I use to play Oregon Trail, and that Mavis Beacon typing game...He did do a lot actually...He need the credit...
