The problem I have with anon is that they are too much like Lord of the Flies.

They think they know best, even if they have just a very base understanding of an issue. They don't care about collateral damage. They don't care about long-term ramifications of their action. They come across as immature and clumsy in their efforts. They don't have a firm agenda - it's to join whatever unrest is occurring at the moment and cause more chaos. They don't care about exposing the information of innocents.

I really don't get the "there are casualties in war lol, deal with it!" mentality. It's a pity they feel that any fallout from their actions is "ok," simply because they decided it was for the best. They don't speak for me, I don't care if they say they do: they don't. Stop endangering MY money, MY freedoms on the Internet.. stop acting like power-drunk 13 year old kids.

How can you delete somethomg saying it;s a future crime? What the hell is going on on here? I thought i joined a really good site, Deny Ignorance. Well it's ignorant to censor something that may or may not take place. So you sort of just F-d up your slogan. Also makes me really rethink being a member of ATS.

I've been a lurker for a few weeks now, as it seems global consciousness is pushing everyone, even the "reasonable" among us, to look for answers that make more sense than we're getting. I had no intention of posting, but I felt I had to post on this given the tremendous amount of misconceptions about anon. I also have noticed a thing or two about the timing of this that hasn't come up in the thread yet.

I'm no expert, though I have been following their exploits since a year or so before the Scientology exploits back in 08. I know only what I've been able to piece together deductively, and from lurking on the few public faces they have. I can tell you firsthand that while 99% of them are teenagers who find it lulzy to download LOIC, there are people in that community who are at the highest levels of knowledge and expertise in this field. Anyone who paints them all with the "script kiddies" brush is either woefully misinformed, or willfully ignorant.

I'm not an anon shill. I know that my prior statement will bring that observation from some. Personally, I think this attack on the NYSE will fail, should it even go off at all. But, I think the timing and the early notice fits their MO to the letter, and for that I think that THEY think this is going to happen. Here's why:

1. Timing: The timing on this couldn't be better, if anarchy is your goal. If you want to "burn it all down" doing this while Greece is in default and the dominoes are just waiting to fall makes absolute sense. Anon would fit this bill. If they were somehow able to erase transaction records, the world economy would suffer greatly. (insert NWO and one-world currency comment here). This gives credence to the CIA theory, but also supports the idea of an actual attack.

2. Early warning: This means one of two things. Either the mechanisms are in place already and cannot be averted, or they have no real intention of doing a thing other than DDOS'ing the website. Choose what you will; I fall into the camp that thinks they actually might try something big. However, the early warning is no mistake....either they have no intention of doing a thing and are just rattling cages, or they think they are 6 moves from checkmate. Unfortunately, that doesn't yield much more than we already knew, but you can rule out sloppiness. It doesn't follow that they are planning an actual major attack, aren't sure of the outcome, but bragging anyway. The skeptics on this will bring up the facebook boast, to which I would reply "remember, remember the 5th of November...." which leads me to believe that publicity was the only point of all that garbage. This attack has larger implications and the opportunity to actually do what they dream about. Facebook just annoys them.

3. Stock market activity: We've got a lot of activity betting on the S and P making a huge downward move. There's a lot to justify that bet without this attack, for sure. This would certainly speed up such a move, if the attack were severe enough. Some of those Nov 11 puts with a strike price of 500 might not be simply exotic hedging strategies....food for thought.

4. Publicity: They really haven't been pushing the download of their app lately. They usually do that before some big DDoS. This leads me to believe it isn't just a roundup of teenagers silly enough to download that thing from a monitored source.

Final thought: I would hope that skeptics such as this community would understand the idea that any fight against an oppressor is bound to get worse before it gets better. Now, I'm not stating that I think they're methods for accomplishing their goals are optimal, or that I even agree with their goal. What I am saying is that the threat of further restrictions and financial hardship is not a valid reason to avoid conflict. Ever. Satisfaction with substandard conditions is a trait of the oppressed. If your argument against anon's actions is simply that you prefer the status quo to the alternative, then you are sanctioning the current system and all that goes along with that. There are a ton of compelling reasons to disagree with anon; saying that they are working against their stated interest of internet freedom is simply not a valid one of them.

This is the dumbest idea ever. This will bring forth martial law, internet kill switch, and will make things even worse. They need to go after the fed, all centralized banks, as well as bilderberg. Bringing down the NYSE will only give them more power to bring in the Communism. Don't you people get it? Wake up! This is what TPTB want. We need to keep capitalism and let it work the way it was meant to in our constitution. Not end it and let banks install a new government based on communism and socialist fascism.

This is all surreal. I am not a complete conspiracy theorist but I think for myself and it seems obvious that worlds are preparing to collide.
The media is out of control. I can't believe that majorities, as they say in recent polls, are rallying behind Rick Perry and Mitt Romney for president. I wonder what other lies are being fed to us? What are the real unemployment figures? Is the Fed really a completely corrupt entity? Are the super rich really plotting our demise? All of it seems surreal. I can not imagine seeing another holocaust or genocide event but the truth is that the last 50 years have been awfully quiet in terms of devastating wars / events. We haven't had a plague in our lifetimes either. It just seems that something is really going to happen.sorry to rant but this story is amazing to think about.

Ok.. what does that have to do with anything. It's also not "my car" until the last payment, "my house," or "my 401k fund." But effectively the money is mine. I can go spend it all on a yacht, if I want to. What does that have to do with my point?

They already have all that internet kill stuff in place. Anonymous or Russia Today or my big toe could trigger it.

Anonymous has been focusing on doing "Anonymous Analytics" so they can uncover security fraud. I guess since the SEC won't do their job, I'm glad someone is trying.

Vigilante groups spring up when the govt. isn't doing it's job. That's all this is. IMO. It's just digital.

Yeah right. The NYSE is prepared to handle cataclysmic events. I don't think Anonymous stands a chance. Besides they have plenty of backup servers to rely on. One of them is at Kent University in Ohio (The same University that had the incident with the National Guard back in the 1970's) in the case of some sort of failure in Manhattan.

My question is how can annon stop from being infiltrated? If I was a hacker and I wanted to join their cause, how would I go about doing so? And how would they know that I am not a mole? Is it like terrorist cells that operate independently? I just hope that the collective doesn't get sabotaged.

I agree to a certain extent. I do not know who is orchestrating this, but i do know that the ramifications are going to make life tougher for everyone.

I can agree with this also, but to a further extent. The collapse will definitely hurt a lot of people in the short run but a lot of people believe that it needs to happen and that a new/better system will come out of the turmoil.

Really? care to explain how the internet kill switch will be implemented and how Obama will cover the costs of the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of companies who use the internet, nay , rely on the internet on a daily basis?

The kill switch probably doesn't even exist.

I think they are referring to a reply on one of the early pages of this thread that called for the thread to be deleted as it was discussing a future crime.

I've said it before, this Anon has connections, whether they are government backed (not necessarily US) or whether they're government agents, this screams of a set up. I personally believe that this organisation is here to simply give excuse to increasing internet control to its maximum and quite possibly also to bring out any other potential domestic and international anarchist movements and look at disbanding those at the same time. I personally think had they been a credible threat, this organisation would've been busted before now. I could be wrong, but it's a strong hunch! In the wise words of Admiral Ackbar "It's a trap!"
