Imagine if your mother is a sociopath, and your mother in law. Children of sociopaths know what true hell is.
500 plus miles away can give some peace to the person affected. One week of family time a year is pure hell.
You can show up with the best intentions and forgiveness and treat them like they were mentally ill, but they will wear you down. It's their goal in life. When my husband leaves the room for the bathroom or other places I get up and go with him. I also think it is hereditary, learned behavior that gets passed on to the next generation to someone, usually the baby of the family. My husband's sister is an evil, selfish, manipulative, uncaring person. I hated to see her reproduce. She is also 400 lbs. I have found that initiating no contact, living far away, and ignoring anything they say or do is the way to procede with self inner peace. Good luck to all. P.S.) These people always get you with a premeditated attack at the last moment when your guard is down, and you have hope and think that everything was just in your head to begin with. Then it's BANG! Then your think gee wizz, I am stupid. This is who they are and always will be.

Sure - I am not questioning your info. I meant that for me or other non meds to use that criteria to sniff people out is dangerous. Those traits could be easily mixed up.

I agree with you and it scares me. I sat in the office opposite the psycho for 18 months.

you have a different personality disorder. lol. they no longer refer to sociopaths as sociopaths or as psychopaths, so i am confused why this thread keeps using those particular terms. what used to be called psychopath or sociopaths are now classified as Anti-social Personality Disorder. There are many types of Personality disorders, such as Histrionic - which is basically predominantly seen in women, who use sex to achieve their means with no emotional attachment to the act whatsoever OR who think that sex = love, and will have sex freely just to feel loved.

and then you have Borderline PD, Narcissistic PD (that's probably you, LOL, just kidding!), OCD falls into the realm of Personality Disorders, too. you can read (generally) about them on wikipedia and pick your disorder LMAO: en.wikipedia.org...

the thread uses these names because thats how they always have been called

just because you dont actually kill someone, you shouldnt receive the name psychopath? damaging someone by stealing all their money, damaging their head, making them kill themselves, thats is pretty harsh too

well, when your leaders have these problems, thats what you would expect ...

sociopath = psychopath = ... its just a little light, so your guard is not as high as it should be

the truth is that, you would have to read the papers, books on it

i would love to because i am studying psychology and yes, its kinda common sense - but i would like to have the sources as well, especially because i could use some of the facts in my I/O-B.A. and it would safe time if i dont have to search them on my own =) and i think its kinda stupid to post such claims without the scientific paper/study because if they exist why dont name them - especially because a lot of people dont read it just because of the missing quotes/sources...

both my parents and my older brother are. i had a very interesting childhood to say the least. i no longer talk to my mother and only occasionally talk to my brother and my dad. i have tried to develop a relationship with all of them many times but always get hurt.
none of them have any compassion for anything and rant alot about pure crap they have made up in their own heads. All three of them have very deluded views of the past and those views constantly change.
scary people

This is borderline mental illness.

3 things in life drive most people in today's society.

Money
Power
Acceptance by those above you.

You start work you make money. You strive to be noticed by your boss for all your hard work. You get a promotion your make more money with more responsibility. But it's not enough you need more and more. Because it's not being there that's the buzz it's the moment you arrive.

Nothing to do with another race of people my friend it's all of us given half the chance.

The very fabric of humanity will be tested over the next 5 years. When the chips are down people will eat each other.

Should I worry that most of the 5 traits first mentioned and then almost half the secondary traits fit me?

I only ever cried 5 times, 4 of them because of depression and emotional breakdown reasons, the other because a tribute video package after pro wrestler Eddie Guerrero's death the day before set me off. Always told people I get bored easily (which is true) and more besides.

Obviously it's not a bad thing as the OP said, doesn't mean I'd kill or even hurt anyone but it'd be nice to be able to get an evaluation by a professional and not feel stupid for wanting to ask.

I am firmly convinced that most of the top corporate executive and politicians fall into this category. You have to be of that mindset to survive and make it to the top.

These are the people who are the rulers of our society. Avoid them at all costs.

I have asked this question before, awhile back, in another thread about this mental condition, but got no reaction.

I'm not:

Man bashing

or

Being facetious.

I swear. I have NEVER experienced a -strait- testosteronized man who (1.)Had empathy (2.)Introspective (3.)Blame himself (4.)Unwavering attention span (5.)Faithful (6.)Not opportunistic (7.)Wanted to be a caretaker versus a spoiled nurtured manchild (8.)Wasn't childish, immature, more-or-less

But I used to work for a -Gay- Man who had empathy and was a good and loving person. A co-worker had hurt me, and he cried with me, and shared his heart and hurts. (I can just hear all the "manly" men going, "Eww"

I'm straight and not saying "eww" at all, that's actually pretty sweet and you're lucky to have a friend like that. Most of mine seemed to up sticks and leave when they got all they could out of me.

Hell, I've had a variety of women I knew, worked with, was friends with and my current girlfriend say I'm a really nice and caring person so we are out there, problem is some of those other traits seem to fit me and it worries me now.

So one out of 22 people responding to this thread are psychopaths, could you spot them?

Sure, some have leadership abilities. Others amongst them don't always have what it takes or don't get the breaks. They are just wandering about mingling into others' affairs, moving along. Not all are trying to get to the top but will often stop at nothing to get what they do want, security, comfort, and thrills. Some of their emotions are even more acute to compensate for those they lack.

Those percentages seem about right, just over 4 percent of the population without conscience or remorse. Even those who are not malicious, not all are, can still be somewhat detrimental just for those facilities and emotions they lack.

My observations suggest they often have trouble grasping abstract concepts so take things very literal.

Psychopath is a harsh word. It may be accurate but yes, we associate psychopaths to serial killers and other behaviors. Given its prevalence and degree of maliciousness we need a more sterile term, one that is not full of charge. They generally do not like being confronted with their truth and will deny it at first, then eventually admit to it with a degree of pride if given an opportunity to boast of their conquests.

man, only the 5 primary traits are presented in all of them

so if you have secondary ones, it doesnt mean much

no remorse
- they use pity to get to their victims
- they create a persona for each victim, specifically designed to manipulate their target
- their past is completely confused, they never tell the whole history
- high levels of testosterone (males and female[but they are not ugly or things like that])

Just sounds like a selfish person to me.

Psychopaths are unfortunately an evolutionary branch of humanity. Ordinary humans do not occupy the top slot in the food chain. There is nothing you can do about these dead-eyed parasites - they already own us.

Nice to know other people have also noticed these vampires though.

yes.. and they are ALL in in the White House except for Ron Paul and a few others.. I'd say 90% of the White House, Congress & Reps are all this ..

Sorry .. but when you pass laws that circumvent the process.. isn't that enough to know something is wrong ??

This is why I don't read or wanna know much about psychology, because once you (think) you know something you start to place people in these categories. The fact of the matter is that while psychology is useful in making sure you don't get manipulated yourself; it gives you a superiority complex and anybody who disagrees doesn't know what they are talking about because they didn't read a book...
