Please do tell......What does Science tell you as to why we are here? The Big Bang? Even so....you do know that is about to be a thing of the past, right? Many theories are dying out and new ones are emerging. This is the way it has always been.

My opinion:

There is no Science/Geometry/Life without a creator. This is where it gets really fun when you can allow yourself to combine what we know in regards to science and geometry to what we know about our creator. The three intertwine lovely.

You can take a Dr.'s word for an illness or you can seek out the symptoms yourself and determine the ailment and fix. Doctors are like scientists....constantly practicing to come up with an answer to a question.

Do not put all your faith into something you do not understand.......or should you? I say yes....within reason and I am also speaking about the creator as well.

We do not understand diseases and the cosmos as we would like so we theorize and practice.....people look up to these professions and believe everything they are told. WHY? Same reason they believe every word in the Bible or other texts...... they just do. Everyone believes in something and have their own why's of doing so even when they do not understand it completely.

I say.....don't be a follower with any subject. Search out Truth and it will reveal itself to you. The creator is Truth to the Spirit.

Doctors ARE scientists..They use the scientific method and rely on hypothesis and previous scientific fact.

But unlike religion, science is willing to change or alter a once confirmed 'belief' once facts start to show otherwise.

Why do most Christians/ other religious people say that they are a follower and believer in god and that they trust him to heal all wounds and resolve all problems?

They may 'pray' about it briefly, but are soon headed to the local Walgreens or hospital afterward?

I think that they 'believe' in science a tad more than they'd like to admit.

I talk to the 'Big Guy' all the time and I'm sure from time-to-time he talks back to me,
but as I'm older now -it seems I listen less and less.

I recall one time, when I was John Denver and struggling as an assistant grocery
Manager, God appeared to me as George Burns!
It made get over my song-writing block, I can tell you.

There was another incident earlier on a mountain and some slabs of stone, but
again with age, my memories fade.

Great thread.

Just to play devil's advocate a bit more:

You may never find it. And if you did, what if it wasn't what you thought it was? What if the truth was that we are just sophisticated animals with mutated brains that are a cancer on the planet? What if our lives and deaths are meaningless and everything you did on the earth besides reproducing was meaningless? What if the truth is that our instinctual animal fear is what drives us to come up with explanations for life and death? These sort of thoughts are too horrible for most people to imagine, so instead isn't it possible we attempt to rationlize life by imagining that we have some divine purpose, that life is about love (and not survival/reproduction), that the afterlife is a grand place of justice... because what a horrible thought it would be to know there is no real justice, huh? That child molesters die just like everyone else die, and there are no rewards or punishments.

It seems to me that people will attempt to believe in just about anything rather than accept 'truth'.

"If I could catch a glimpse of the grand design...
I'd see the truth and be repelled."

Theres a difference between communicating with God and ones own thoughts. The thoughts are different. There is no "I should do this or that". Usually it strikes you as where did that come from that thought.

Example...I had a new water heater put in. The dang thing kept going out. I called them they came out and said they fixed it. Yet as soon as they left with another check in hand the dang thing went out again. So I called them back they couldn't come out to the next day. I live alone with my young son so when I am talking I'm talking to God just like I would my own Dad if he was there. I kept asking what the heck is wrong and now they are saying it's this the part is covered but not the labor. All at once the word propane kept coming into my mind. Why I asked myself is that word keeping coming into my mind. I didn't know there was a difference between propane water heaters and natural gas water heaters. I went to my old friend google and found out those stupid plumbers could of blown me up to heaven. So I called the plumbers main office and said "hey you put the wrong type gas water heater in my home and could of blown me up" Needless to say I got a new water heater and my money back from that day. If the words propane wouldn't of kept coming into my mind I would of probably been dead before anyone noticed they installed the wrong water heater.

When people tell me God has told them something is going to happen or they need to do this I have to take a good look at that person. Everyone wants to be an end times prophet it seems like. Check their ego. I've heard many people say God has revealed to me that this means that and it's okay if I do that. That's when I figure they've twisted the words of God in their own mind so it makes them feel good about what they do.

Hate to brake it to you but any voice in your head is your voice. Its you only you....If you want to label the back and forth as a personal relationship with god or anything is up to you to decide. Why you would actually think its a supreme being talking to you personally and not to others is a bit arrogant. But we all have some ego issues to deal with. Its what makes us human.

Oh well have a great life.

Unfortunately, not all believers will go for medicine. A couple years ago or so, there was a little girl who was diabetic and in need of insulin. Her parents just sat there and put faith in their god to heal her. She is no longer with us, but easily could've been.

Exactly, God does the same thing. He will give you hands on experience, but all doubt must be removed though in order for that to happen. The problem is that people expect God to communicate with them the same way that humans communicate with others. If He did that then He wouldn't be God. Even if God did yell from the sky history (at least Biblical) has shown that it doesn't make a difference. People always go back to their old ways. The children of Israel are a good example of this.

God isn't looking for robots, only faithfulness.

Take this for what you will, but if you have ever confessed with your mouth and officially accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Savior then I would say that all is not lost for you. I would only say that you are in a backsliding state. The backsliding can be healed but only if you want it to.

6 .......“Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot.
7 And I said, after she had done all these things, ‘Return to Me.’ But she did not return. Jeremiah 3:6

From reading the OP and some of your other comments is appears that the Lord has used you in fashions which you don't understand. You may not think that you did any good while on your mission, but I'm willing to bet that someone was affected by your words then, and you planted some good seeds. Seeds take time to grow so you can't expect it to be fully grown over night.

Your works haven't been forgotten by God.

Most of the time (during debate), Christians (believers) often do exactly what you just did: talk in bronze age parrables.

Why?

This is 2011.

You do this because you are merely repeating (from memory) these type of speach as heard from a minister/preacher. And you are quoting biblical scriptures, which were translated for into that type of language to be understood by the people of that era.

So this indicates not a 'knoweldge', but a repetition of biblical text.

So I guess when you quote the works of another writer to back up your points your not doing the same
Have you ever wrote a paper that required references? Have you ever given someone a book to read that you thought would help them? If so, then you what your saying is not knowledge from yourself, but the knowledge of others. How is anyone suppose to learn anything unless someone else tells them first?

What I am saying is that they go into a 'Thou art is the way to the father...." and such mode.

Usually, they cannot debate with modern terminology because they really are not that knowledgeable on the subject to begin with. Seriously.

So they begin quoting from memorization.

You make no sense cause every knowladge is derived from some other source. How can you be knowledgeable
about something you can not see? Hmmm Lets see astronomy we don't have to see something to know it's there because we see it's effects on the objects around it like a black hole we know it's there because of the forces it exerts on the objects around it. Well i use the same logic for God. I know he's there because i see the effects he has on those of us around him! I hold the same ideaology about evil and satan! Look i realize this will not dissuade your beliefs and everyone has their right to their own opinion but is it so bad to believe in God or are we bad people to believe that it's wrong to go against his laws and are we bad to follow Christ's teachings and Why is it you are working so hard to convince us that he does'nt exist? Is'nt it true that your working to convince yourself and not us cause we allready know the truth for sure. Though we are told to try and convert people you can't beat a dead horse and it makes no difference whether you believe or not, to our system of beliefs!

Yeah, I should have taken that further. Many times I have thought to myself, "I want the truth, but how will I know I have the truth if I were to find it?"

But, what you say could be the truth. I mean, what about all other animals on this planet? Do they just live and die and then that's it? If that's all they have, why don't they all just kill themselves? (I've heard that from christians talking about atheists). I do have a life, and I want to live it and enjoy it. Is that so wrong? Chased a rabbit there.

Anyways, if animals/insects/fish/bacteria/etc. live and die and that's it for them, why wouldn't it be like that for us too?

Just to go slightly off topic for a moment...
What if thats not true..what if you are actually part of a lab experiment and your literally getting other voices in your head through a implant you didn't know existed.

I could link some very interesting studies being done today (even made some threads about it) but, not to get too bogged down in the sciences, I will just use a pop culture reference.

Kent, this is God!

I'm not suspicious. I automatically assume they're completely insane. You hear voices in your head? You talk to something that's made up? Have an imaginary friend when you're an adult?

You're out of your f'n mind.

Yeah, I was alluding to the fact that I have heard christians use that statement towards atheists. You'd think though that they would be the ones who want to kill themselves because then they could live with god.

The truth is your alone like myself and all of us. Some are in denial others are not. When you die,,,that's it. No more you. There is no after life and some supreme being couldn't give 2 craps about you ,,or I. That is the truth. Does it suck ? Kind of, but so what. Make the best of what you have . That's your goal and purpose in life.

You will never find the truth if you don't care about the one who offers it. God is not human, He is Spirit, if you want to discover His truth then it has to be done in a spiritual form. There is no other way.

What is spirit? What is the spiritual form?

Also, do you consider Jesus to be God? If so, isn't he flesh?

Noooooo..

I'm saying that they don't even speak in the vernacular of modern time, when discussing this.

They are using exact quotes because they don't really have enough knowledge about it otherwise.
