i find this list to be utter bs

how can a country with 60k active reserves even be in the top 30 `whilst an other country with around 300k active reserves is in the bottom 20,..

Thanks, I just read the authors own summary of the book and it was very interesting, and I was particularly interested in his observations about the relationship between Russia and Germany.

Since he wrote that, Japan has suffered a truly enourmous blow in the form of the EQ and Tsunami, the full economic consequences I think are still to be determined - but don't look great, and they, like Germany (and indeed most 'Western' states), have deeper economic and demographic issues moving into the next ten years (including ageing populations) that make me question their ability to 'project' and amplify their military power - for that reason - I think the BRIC nations are still the ones to watch, although, as he points out, the next phase is likely to be very complex and in many ways unpredictable and even surprising.

Because 60k of highly trained troops with a lot of war experience are far better then 300k of troops who have never been in battle.

If people took the time and realize that this list was compiled based on many variables including but not limited to war experience, technological supremacy, numbers of troops and weapons etc, this list is very accurate.

As for the UK I don’t know how people can even deny they should be on the list as top 10. They have fought and won more wars throughout the centuries then any other military force. People forget they were the only country in WW2 before the US entered the war that the Germans could not beat.

A good example is Israel and the wars it fought. They were outnumbered 20-1 in three wars, fighting several countries on a few fronts and won each time. And they did because of strategic supremacy as well as war experience of their troops.

so your saying that a country who hasnt been in a war for over 200 years and the only action they see is peacekeeping for u.n or nato with less then a 100 peeps per tour is better prepared then one whos been in 14 wars with in the last 100 years and the same ammount of peeps in the same u.n and nato tours,

Sorry but America is going to stay on top of china for a while. More warheads(minus russia), experience, technology, airforce/navy, and something worth fighting for wont go down that easily to a country that only outnumbers them. Soldiers in China dont have near as much patriotism as soldiers in America. Most Chinese troops are born and die poor; they dont have the education or any technology like America. The Chinese don't have near as much experience to use their army for its full potential. A weak navy/airforce makes for an easy land invasion. Topped with USAs 10x more WMD and a much better missle defense system. To be honest, any country from ww1-2 with chinas numbers would take its place. China isnt that scary.

Unless you think the USA is going to disband it's military anytime soon just because we are in debt. The military will be the last thing any *good* leader would stop funding. America is just to spoiled for another draft to happen..

Seems legit, though as some have mentioned, China is really number 2. Russia just has some pretty tchnology, but in reality they're probably around Israel.

I'd say the top tier nations for ABILITY to fight a war would be US, Russia, China, Israel, South Korea, UK, Germany, France, Iran.

yeah the indian defence forces still have the indigenous spear and stones,the kinds that made half the world slap sanctions on india only to revoke them later on in couple of years to acknowledge the growing economy and the market opportunity of india.to put it in perspective our middle class population is bigger than the entire population of the states.
