I have never believed in this sort of Socialism. Never! I personally know more people who have tasted from this fountain and now they seem to cascade with malady the likes of which would kill the normal person. It is like they do not want to "heal" themselves.

This is where Family should come in, not the Government, and if there is no Family then by all means reach out to Charity that is why we give to Charities!

The Feds are perpetuating the illnesses and perpetuating the ill and it needs to stop. If you slipped a disc then heal thyself! I have personally seen miracles and if you can get out of bed and wash your clothes, feed your face, then by all means there is a way to work. It may not be the work you desire and it may be painful but considering the way the body "speaks" to us how else will you tell your body to "Heal Thyself"!

Blessings to all of you who believe otherwise, bashing my thoughts on this will not change the fact that anyone on SSI is walking a path that only leads to a wheelchair and/or a deathbed! You stop trying and you will finally stop, why you do not reach is beyond me!

Mental cases! Sorry, no SSI, that is absurd, I know of several jobs a brainless person can do!

Heal Thyself!

"redistribution"?

Nice with the rhetoric. Dysphemism much?

Call it what you want. But what the heck do you think you would do on SSI? Are you keeping track of what you're putting in? You should! Because, according to you, you should only get to take out what you put in. That means that when and if you ever receive SSI you should decline the next check after you have received your share. Then what are you going to do?

Are you serious?

Your worried about how she spends dough AFTER she receives it?
I oppose the whole thing. This just highlights the one absurdity of the system.

Originally posted by niceguybobI've been paying into SS since I was 13 years old. My statement clearly states I've paid in the maximum to receive a check that has now been postponed until I'm 67.

Give me back my money,no interest, and we'll call it even.

OK..How about, stop with holding that money from my check and we'll call it even?
I agree with that even though I am fairly sure you are being sarcastic.

Cry and whine all you want about "socialism" but you'll be singing a different tune if you were to ever see what would happen if these people were suddenly left penniless.

There are many terms I could use to describe this system. Most are not permitted under the T&C.

Given the current situation, I seriously doubt there will be SS system in 20 years when I could "hypothetically" collect. Given the choice, I would opt out now. They will never give me that choice though.

a very good point, people often forget that the money the unemployed/unable to work get gets spent (mostly) on things that help keep other people or add to the fact they are employed. so some businesses will see this hit their profit margins for certain.

a star for you for looking deeper than the surface, for seeing it is more than just a free hand out.
i do not agree with the way it works and think it needs to be changed, cutting people of overnight and not changing the system will only hurt everybody in the long run.

but some people are only satisfied by seeing others suffer whilst they are fully fed, warm and tucked up in bed.
they think it will not effect them, maybe it will not for now, but who knows what it will causes if it is prolonged, it could cause a domino effect, more unemployed who have no income and more business is lost, which makes more unemployed who also now have no money, etc etc.

Today I think he threatened the same thing with VA benefits. While I am sure I could make a disability claim having been wounded and being a Purple Heart recipient I refuse to put one in - all things considered I have all my body parts and faculties. I can work my farm just fine - no need to milk the system.

However, if they hit my military retirement check they will have a huge issue on their hands in the form of one well armed, trained and pissed of operator with not much to lose.

24 years of blood sweat and tears into that promise; I upheld my end - will they? I bet their pay and benefits will stop for nothing!

Likely there are others in the same boat. It will be the beginning of the end.

Are you flipping KIDDING ME?! "slipped a disc"? Yeah, my mom slipped a disc recently. She also has sipped four others and now has six vertebrae fused in her back and now has to have them fused in her neck!

'Heal Thyself!" Are you serious?

Wow...just wow..

Some of you come up with the strangest arguments to justify your non-compassion and hatred for the weak.

I mean isn't it clear that in 20 years more likely earlier, we're not even gonna have Social Security? So why does this still come out of our paycheck?
edit on 12-7-2011 by blackrain17 because: (no reason given)

This is part of the reason why social programs are a necessity. If you have a very large faction of people out of commission and not participating in the economy, things will go downhill. We are already seeing this happen. Unemployment is only doing so much.

That said, just because something is broken doesn't mean it can't be fixed. The program is messed up and convoluted. But it is our duty as citizens to take care of the weak. It is for our OWN good. That is my opinion.

This isn't just about some "poor, lazy" people not getting their "free ride" next month...

Thank you. No it isn't about a free ride. I am 57. In 1985 I was in a roll over crash in a semi and Tanker. My spine was broken in three places, my neck was broken in two places. I later developed Pars. I have had the full lower lumbar fusion and fixation, and my neck is fused in two places. I have nerve damage. My wife had Pars. She has had two lower lumbar surgeries, and now has what looks like a blown disc. She will have to go under the knife again. Work, for either of us, is out of the question. Not to mention we have two disabled boys, one who is a Dwarf, and both are Bi-Polar and ADHD. Oh, don't think I don't long for those days of driving again, $1000 a week paychecks and could buy anything I wanted! I do. I fix computers now. It just is not the same.

We together make enough to live on right now. We pay out over $1000 a month for rent and services. We have maybe $100 extra each month, some months it goes to our Van for needed repairs. We driver over 200 miles a month to doctor's offices. She has a seizure disorder, and her meds are a must. We are one social security check away from starving, and listening to our children starve. In my day, the young people, the college students, would have been out protesting. Not today, too complacent, I guess.

Just hope you never need it...Then you'll have to "steal" it for yourself...Which I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate to do if you became disabled. I never thought I would need it either. Things happen fast my dear so quit looking down your nose because you may be the next applicant.

I broke my neck on a HALO jump and have C5-7 fused and still completed 2 more combat tours on a Special Forces team - sure it hurts some days a lot with radiculopathy but some of our forefathers walked across the continent with packs that totaled more than their body weight on their backs with worse compression injuries and no pain medication either.

Pain is largely a mental issue.

Thank you for that. Ya know, while I was homeless all those years, I was -pristene/ly- clean in my behaviour and law abiding. I never was into drugs or alchoholic. This is because I am an 8 year -honerable- military Veteran (but with issues).
I have no criminal record.
That could change though, if the President forces me.

Anyone here ever heard of Flemming Vs Nestor? You should really check it out if you still think the money you put into SS is in an account held for you.

Flemming vs Nestor

The Court ruled that no such contract exists, and that there is no contractual right to receive Social Security payments. Payments due under Social Security are not “property” rights and are not protected by the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The interest of a beneficiary of Social Security is protected only by the Due Process Clause.

He appealed the termination arguing, among other claims, that promised Social Security benefits were a contract and that Congress could not renege on that contract. In its ruling, the Court rejected this argument and established the principle that entitlement to Social Security benefits is not contractual right.

www.ssa.gov...

Basically social security is like every other tax tied to a spending program. Something that can be changed at political whim.

Sorry about the cut and paste from my post on another thread, but y'all are aware the Supreme Court ruled over 50 years ago that you have no right to the money you've put into SS. It's a tax attached to a political promise and we all know politicians always keep their promises right?

First I want to say that I do not hold a grudge to people who need disability benefits. I'm glad they can have them and they do have them because this isn't the 17th century where the poor and disabled die on the street.

Second - Please...like receiving $700 a month means your living high off the hog? $700/ month means your dirt freaking poor....I'm thankful I dont have to live on $700/month, I know that much! SSI is hard to get and takes a LONG time to get...it isn't just handed out, in case you didn't know.

To think that those people who desperately need that check wont have it, is just horrible.....just as horrible as thinking you wont get your paycheck in two weeks. We need it and they need their SSI. We all need our money.

Have some compassion for other people who have less than you.
