The first thing to notice is that the article says;

There were nine "unknown" infrared sources found. We don't know which one in particular the newspaper was talking about but all of them were identified. None of them are close to the Solar System.

So when are we all dying now?

This thing they seen in 1983 or whenever is TRILLIONS of miles away and was PROVEN to be normal (as said) and not a problem.

This conspiracy is a waste of everyone's time. It has been going on for over two decades, and the date keeps getting pushed back and postponed time and time again. 1 AU is the distance between earth and the sun...
Elenin will be closest on Monday October 17th at a distance of 0.232 (zoom to that date)
It looks close, and if it was 17 days later, we would have a problem. it isnt, and we DONT !
1/10th nearer than the sun. But still, 0.232AU (1.000AU is the distance from sun to earth remember)
You can zoom in/out/up/down/left/right. You can look at it from any angle.
1/10th the distance the sun is away, is how close this will come.
As the day pass, it will get further away, and I can laugh at some of you

According to the orbital diagram on JPL's website, on October 18Th of this year, This object will narrowly miss us...sure I can see that in the animation...but what about the bodies that are orbiting this object? Will these orbiting bodies be close enough to Earth for a possible collision ??

What bodies orbiting it? It's a comet. It doesn't have the gravitational force to cause something to orbit it. It will have a tail that is composed mainly of gas and some small rocks, but nothing that will penetrate the atmosphere.

Are you seriously worried about it?

Nothing that I have read on ATS, or the internet has made me think ZOMG - we are going to die in some catastrophic event. If it happens, it happens - not going to worry too much about it.

(and I am a prepper, but I still enjoy my day to day life)

Actually I've been researching 2012 before the fad started emerging around 2003 or 2004. I have looked at it from so any different angles and the actual data points to nothing happening. When you look at primary sources and scientific papers it is clear nothing will happen. It is only New Age authors and YouTube conspiracy theorists that claim something will happen by greatly distorting the same sources I use or simply making things up.

OHHHH, So its a 2012 thing.
Now this I have been researching for a while. Doesnt the Maya believe that we would be entering an age of enlightenment. That this perfect alinement signify that or something. The resources on this stuff has become overly satrarated with this comet end of the world doomer thing.

Every civilization believed in a form of us being morphed into something greater then we are.
Which I believe will be ascending from the physical body to spiritual body. And yes I am christian and this can tie into that belief system as well.

All we can do is wait for 2012 and see. BTW I will be rotf laughing if it turns out to be another Y2K BUG thing.

The Mayans actually don't have any prophecies associated with the end of the Long Count. In fact there is not a single Long Count that ends after 13 baktun during the Classic Period. As for an alignment, Phage just created a thread dispelling this myth.

The alignment is not unique. Every year the Sun somewhat aligns with the center of the galaxy in the same way on the same date. There is nothing special about December 21, 2012. Although what does it matter, since you claimed everything is going to end this Fall?

In order for that to happen the Milky Way would have to pass between the Sun and the Earth. Not gonna happen. Ever.

This isn't about opinions anymore, it's about Fact, Fact, Fact and the Fact of the matter is when you look into the sky on 12-21-12 you will see the Sun eclipsing the center of the milky way galaxy. No amount of stupidity will ever disprove this because it's just the way the cycles are and Im amazed you are saying it wont happen. Again, go to a professional and they will spell it out for you.
