assuming they make 40k a year
Of those individuals with income who were older than 25 years of age, over 42% had incomes below $25,000

Problem is minimum wage is around $15,000 a year not $40,000, a single headed household or the head of household's withholding is only $5,700 so anything after that (bearing in mind they have no children to claim) they will STILL pay income tax on that whether it's $15,000 or $40,000 (And after 2 children you don't get any more withholdings either nor do you get any extra earned tax credit nor do you get Earned income credit after two children), I can tell you with kids the $40,000 will STILL have paid taxes even after withholding and claiming their children. You obviously never studied tax law or became an accountant or even KNOW an accountant.

Its because they don't make enough to even qualify for the lowest tax bracket.
Make it so they qualify. if there going to suck from the system, they should pay right? If the 41% started to see there money go bye bye in taxes i bet you you will see a great change in this contry and the way handouts are done.
if i was in the 41% and had to pay no taxes what am i going to vote for??? MORE HANDOUTS!

And where do you suppose they live on $15,000 a year with 10 percent of their wages taken?
Can't rent a place anywhere in AMERIKA for less than $650 a month thats for a one bedroom apartment. thats $7,800 a year just tfor that and then you have the water, electric, gas if you have it, you sure won't be able to have a car because it's out of your range so public transportation as well, you do know that isn't free right, and then you have to eat or you will be sick and unable to work if you go too long without eating, but sure we can subsidize the rich more, god forbid we subsidize the people who can barely skid by.

It should be 100 percent that do not pay income tax.
There are other ways to raise revenue, and cut spending.
It's a form a extortion. IMO

I don't know, it's not my problem anymore once they start paying into the system. I pay over 40% in taxes, is that fair, no. So they should pay too.

If people are not paying taxes it is because they are not making enough to hardly LIVE on.
Instead of seeing THAT as a problem, Americans want to chestbeat and yell "It's not fair! Make them pay too!"
And then you end up with the person down the street making 17k for his family and having to pay 1700 of that on top of the sales tax, license fees, property taxes, city taxes, all the other taxes people DO pay and can't get out of paying - ok, so you now have guy down the street with 12k for a year to live on - and what does he do?
HE steals your junk at night.
Jeez, people - is this what Americans really want? 40% of the population desperate enough to become criminals just to survive?
I'm not a liberal or a conservative - but do people not see that we are ALL connected and if YOU want a safe place to live, with nice shops to shop in and varied offerings, that your neighbor down the road needs to be able to feed, shelter, and clothe themselves and their families TOO?
With money, what goes around comes around. If it quits GOING to a certain segment of the population - the very ones that WILL HAVE TO SPEND EVERY BIT of it - then eventually it stops going much of anywhere.
And that's where we are. So enjoy the greed.edit on 8-7-2011 by hadriana because: (no reason given)

If you're paying that much you're doing something wrong. Or you need a new accountant or you need to get one if you don't have one. I don't know anybody who pays 40% that's not normal.
ETA~Wait I see it, so you're making over $400,000 per year, well then we have nothing more to say to each other. I can see how it must be such a struggle...cry me a river.
My source just in case... Actually it foes down as a single person its somehwere around $179,000 which obviously makes no sense to me but whatever.

They take it from you before you ever see your wages.
Even with dependents and a home you dont get it all back.
