It should be 100 percent that do not pay income tax.
There are other ways to raise revenue, and cut spending.
It's a form a extortion. IMO

Retired + People that don't work + unemployed + Elite with loopholes = 41.7%

Sorry but you could not tax everyone if we wanted to. The fact is are money is printed on debt not gold backed thus this fractional reserve banking cluster freak was created to cause debt. Debt of slavery. Taxes are evil and thus is why its only been around since 1913. Our taxes pay the interest on the money printed, if backed by gold then no interest would exist as it would not be borrowed paper. This is just one of the many ways they play us against our brothers. Do you really think the entire world is going into debt on legit reasons and if so who is the one footing the bill... and where did they get this power. The fed that's who and Jekyll island 1913 is when and when. When will we awake and realize that we are slaves to there created rat maze.

assuming they make 40k a year

There's the flaw in your logic.

wikipedia

Of those individuals with income who were older than 25 years of age, over 42% had incomes below $25,000

Ok, it's Wikipedia but The numbers are probable pretty close.

I work 40 hour weeks, and I make 11 an hour as a dental technician. I bring home about $400 a week. My share of rent is 400. Gas and electric another $100. Phone bill, $70. Internet $50. Motorcycle insurance is $80 a month. Food and gas is roughly $400 a month. I pay taxes on EVERY ONE OF THESE THINGS. I NEVER get it back. 8% in my county, not including state.

I am lucky if I get $400 a month to spend on anything - entertainment, a new car, more delicious food, whatever.
I make just over $20,000 a year, have no car, and live ina 1 bedroom apartment.

And you want me to pay more, and say I am not paying my fair share?

Go **** yourself.

It's the poor who don't pay income tax. Makes perfect sense to me. They don't have the money to pay. Tax the rich. Stop the tax subsidies to the most profitable companies in the history of humanity. Let those who benefit the most from society pay their fair share. Stop making the most vulnerable members of society carry most of the burden.

Problem is minimum wage is around $15,000 a year not $40,000, a single headed household or the head of household's withholding is only $5,700 so anything after that (bearing in mind they have no children to claim) they will STILL pay income tax on that whether it's $15,000 or $40,000 (And after 2 children you don't get any more withholdings either nor do you get any extra earned tax credit nor do you get Earned income credit after two children), I can tell you with kids the $40,000 will STILL have paid taxes even after withholding and claiming their children. You obviously never studied tax law or became an accountant or even KNOW an accountant.

Fine call it 15-20k a year. It will still bring in 100's of billions extra a year. "put some skin in the game"

And where do you suppose they live on $15,000 a year with 10 percent of their wages taken?
Can't rent a place anywhere in AMERIKA for less than $650 a month thats for a one bedroom apartment. thats $7,800 a year just tfor that and then you have the water, electric, gas if you have it, you sure won't be able to have a car because it's out of your range so public transportation as well, you do know that isn't free right, and then you have to eat or you will be sick and unable to work if you go too long without eating, but sure we can subsidize the rich more, god forbid we subsidize the people who can barely skid by.

Its because they don't make enough to even qualify for the lowest tax bracket.

Make it so they qualify. if there going to suck from the system, they should pay right? If the 41% started to see there money go bye bye in taxes i bet you you will see a great change in this contry and the way handouts are done.

if i was in the 41% and had to pay no taxes what am i going to vote for??? MORE HANDOUTS!

I'll admit it. I sometimes was one of those 41% because I was a student and only worked summers making under $5000 a year.. I guess all the deductions and stuff allowed me to pay $0 .. sometimes I would pay around $140 for taxes for the year

If there was a flat tax, of 10%, and no deductions allowed I would have ended up paying $500. Small change for some but if you are barely making anything that could be rent for a month.

I don't know, it's not my problem anymore once they start paying into the system. I pay over 40% in taxes, is that fair, no. So they should pay too.

If you're paying that much you're doing something wrong. Or you need a new accountant or you need to get one if you don't have one. I don't know anybody who pays 40% that's not normal.
ETA~Wait I see it, so you're making over $400,000 per year, well then we have nothing more to say to each other. I can see how it must be such a struggle...cry me a river.
My source just in case... Actually it foes down as a single person its somehwere around $179,000 which obviously makes no sense to me but whatever.

If people are not paying taxes it is because they are not making enough to hardly LIVE on.

Instead of seeing THAT as a problem, Americans want to chestbeat and yell "It's not fair! Make them pay too!"

And then you end up with the person down the street making 17k for his family and having to pay 1700 of that on top of the sales tax, license fees, property taxes, city taxes, all the other taxes people DO pay and can't get out of paying - ok, so you now have guy down the street with 12k for a year to live on - and what does he do?

HE steals your junk at night.

Jeez, people - is this what Americans really want? 40% of the population desperate enough to become criminals just to survive?

I'm not a liberal or a conservative - but do people not see that we are ALL connected and if YOU want a safe place to live, with nice shops to shop in and varied offerings, that your neighbor down the road needs to be able to feed, shelter, and clothe themselves and their families TOO?

With money, what goes around comes around. If it quits GOING to a certain segment of the population - the very ones that WILL HAVE TO SPEND EVERY BIT of it - then eventually it stops going much of anywhere.

And that's where we are. So enjoy the greed.

Let's see I'm in the 25% bracket plus 10% state so that's 35%. are you with me still. So now let's add propery tax at 4,000 so that's about 8% more percent plus sales taxs at 8%. because let's face it, what do you do with money, you buy things so you hve to add sales tax so we are at 51%. so yeah your right I'm not at 40%

So 51% of my pay goes to the state. Does that make me a slave to the state now? Am I free?

well im just making a point that 41% who file dont pay income taxes. I dont know how they do it but they do. This comes from the IRS
edit on 7-7-2011 by camaro68ss because: (no reason given)

I am 35 and have been working full time since 18, never filed. They take it out of my paychecks but I refuse to file. I don't care if they owe me or I owe them, if they want my pound of flesh they can come and get it and so far they have not.

Not offering myself into the system, just not doing it. I pay taxes from my check, sales tax, property tax and all the rest, they can do without if I owe them at the end of the year. If my family is struggling for money for one reason or another, we cut back to bring our budget back into relevance as to what we can afford.

Maybe the government should do the same thing instead of robbing citizens. It's time for them to tighten there belt buckles ALOT. I wish the other 50 percent would stop paying, if that happened our rights wouldn't be violated every day because they couldn't afford to do so.

Wake up people.......

Nope. None of us are. After working to "make a living," sleeping, cleaning up after yourself, paying bills and so on, you get about 8% of your lifespan, on average, to do as you please.

You may choose to pursue one of the 15 or 20 odd prepackaged, pre-approved "lifestyle" choices sanctioned by the overstate, and any substantial deviation from those imaginary choices will mean loss of status, position, wealth or freedom in the absolute sense.

Your freedom, just like your self-reliance, is an illusion. never kid yourself.

I'm sorry but if you blame everything on these mythical "liberals", then I truly feel sorry for you and your lack of intellect.

Of course, everyone ignores the fact that GE paid nothing in taxes.
