Do you think it's possible to "sell your soul" to the Devil?

Don't we all sell our souls every time the elections come up?

If you are prepared to do anything to succeed then you will. Selling your soul is the process by which you purge your morality and compassion to do what ever it takes to accumulate wealth, fame and power. Murder, extortion, betrayal, theft and deceit are the tools used to climb over anyone and everyone in order to get what you want.

And at the end of the day, when you have all you want, you realize...You're empty! I love your analogy because I see it exactly the same. For me the twisted biblical gibberish handed down from generation to generation for some two thousand years is really that simple, you can be part of the Devils game as you have described or can choose to walk the path of love, tolerance, understanding and nurture what you have inherited. The message was that simple!

I'm saying that selling your soul isn't necessarily about good and evil, and that people don't always exchange their souls for a greedy purpose.

Family's are routinely starving and women are routinely being raped in some parts of Africa, namely the Democratic Republic of Congo and West Africa. If a person who lived in one of those areas was under extreme psychological distress given those conditions and told the devil that he or she would trade his/her soul for the safety and well-being of his/her family and friends, would you consider that person to be evil? I mean for all he/she knows he/she could die tomorrow from starvation or from violence.

I have a few more examples, but that seems to be the most meaningful and heart-felt one at the moment.

You bring up a very good point. When human beings are at such a stress level in their lives, which could stem from a variety of reasons , they are more inclined mentally and emotionally to seek desperate measures , to try and help the situation .

I believe it's possible. But there are catches.

If you're "Selling your Soul" to the devil, you've got to assume he wants it in the first place. Who are you? Why would he want your soul? And more importantly, what would he be willing to pay for it?

It bothers me to see athiests and satanists claim that there's no god, and their proof is that they tried to sell their soul for a million dollars and didn't get anything. Why would he buy something he's already getting for free? I'd bet that big time evangelical preachers in their mega churches have sold their souls already, for money, or power over people, in exchange for slighting warping things, slightly planting bad ideals into peoples head. Making people believe in GEEZUS instead of Jesus.

Those are the people who I believe can, would, and probably did sell their soul, and gotten money and power in return.

Honestly, I think terms such as 'good' and 'evil' are so subjective as to be moot.

Hitler was 'good' for the thousands of Germans who voted for him.

Did they sell their souls?

Or did they just want better lives for their families?

Being as we are souls that contain bodies, not vice versa, it would be a bit difficult for us to sell our whole consciousness.

Can your kidney, as important as it is to the whole of you, sell 'you'?

And your proof for this is where?....Sorry, I remember now...In the bible, the book that proves itself! Who are you to tell me what I can or can't do with MY soul based on a belief that the stories in a book are correct? At best I think it would be prudent of you to put the old "IMHO" at the end of that statement

In a manner of speaking. Puritan ideas of literally signing contracts with cloven-footed creatures is stupid. However, such an act symbolizes aligning oneself with evil and the underworld, etc. It's more about being symbolic of choosing a certain...rather unsavory....path.

You want to sell it!? You want to self-destruct yourself!?

What your friend was doing is nothing more than suicide.

Here's a story that I have read out of "The History and Practice of Magic" by Paul Christiansen. A monk is being tortured for what he did not do, then a servant of the devil came into his cell, offering a deal. "I can save you from the justice of man and you'll be free, in exchange for your soul." The monk agreed, and signed the contract. The servant took the monk away from the prison and dropped him off a cliff. "I can save you from the justice of man, but I'm not going to save you from the justice of God." The servant of the Devil left the monk's broken body to rot as all manner of beasts came to feast on his flesh. The sun baked him, and the night froze him. He was in the most horrible of pain. After 1 month of pain and agony, he gave up the ghost and went to an eternity in Hell.

Now that you have read this, having second thought?

I suppose first off really is discovering what kind of devil / demon you believe may exist.
Then whether its a state of mind and then choosing to act good or evil - and on that choice dedicing the "evil" you do is down to that influencd or your own ego.

Wonders where the concept of the devil coming and making offers then keeping your soul comes from? while it may in the bible, i mean whereabouts inside or was it a man made concept to frighten people that they can be tempted by any and all manner of things - keeping them in order basically..
