That's completely incorrect. The fetus is 50% the father's and should not be able to be murdered without his permission. It's disgusting how some women think.

And that's why you started this thread, and that's why we're having this discussion.
If I tried to create my own system it would be flawed and biased as well. I believe there
is no real "one-size-fits-all" solution.

All matters of abortion, parentage and parental rights, cut deep into the philosophical,
religious, and moral fiber of what it is to be human. There is no easy answer.

Hypocrisy and flawed logic are easy to spot. No reason why it should be tolerated or sanctioned by the state.

As far as abortion, religion, philosophy, that is all up to the individual. The state on the other hand, is obligated to make and enforce laws without bias and in accordance with the Constitutionally prescribed tenets of liberty.

But you are correct, this is why I started this thread, and why many folks like me take an active role in issues like these. Women too mind you. My own mother is active politically in such matters.

(For the record though, I'm into all sorts of stuff too.)

Just out of curiosity, would you tell a woman your views, before you took up a claim to the content of her womb, should there be said content after your actions/efforts? Would you expect her to report back to you a month later? Not everyone lives together who has sex, so if you don't have a live-in relationship, I see a problem of your controlling your 50%. I really don 't know how to put that delicately.

I am not knocking your obvious care and concern. Today men are very different from 35 years ago in their attitude to fatherhood.

I can't speak for him, but I think that any man would gladly share his views about his opinions on reproduction with any woman he intends to or has had sex with.

Short of that, if the relationship is so casual as to never have touched on the matter in conversation, then I would say that each must suffer the consequences of such an affair. If there is no commitment between the two lovers, then there should be no presumption of commitment to any potential offspring or to eachother.

In other words, for me as a man, I would not presume to be able to tell a woman one way or the other if she should abort after a casual encounter results in a pregnancy. Likewise however, she should not presume to mandate any influence over me as the consequence of her own choices.

It makes perfect sense. Stealing a man's seed is the same thing as raping a woman. And you make jokes about it.

How about if you don't trust someone don;t have sex with them? Doesn't that make more sense than being really crazy paranoid about women "stealing seed". And, baby, judging by your posts in this thread, i can 100% certifiably guarantee no one is going to try to steal your seed. You're safe from seed stealers, i promise. Now quit worrying and go get 'em killer. =D

It costs no more than $100 a week to raise a child. Cut than in half, since the mother is responsible for the ohter half, and a man's "obligation" should never exceed $50 per week.

EDIT to add: And that includes healthcare. If the father is providing the medical, his payments should be even less.

Lol 100 dollars a week to raise a child? A child under four is almost a thousand dollars a month in just day care fees! What planet do u live on?

Well I don't know where you send your kid to daycare, but my data comes from many sources. You can check babycenter.com if you like, and use their calculator.

The US is a bass ackwards country still stuck in the 17th century.

Fact:
Those who whine about the laws in a 17th century country need to pull their heads out of their self-pitying arseholes and demand change.

Sources on your facts please.................

I have looked and couldnt find any. Thankyou in advance.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but for those saying abortion is murder, here is the definition of the word "murder":

Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being with "malice aforethought"

And here is the definition of a being:

"[a] human being" —it refers to a discrete life form that has properties of mind (i.e. experience and character, cf. sentience), which are deemed to constitute a more complex and evolved state than simple organisms (i.e. that have only "life functions").

Embryos and fetii up to about 4-5th month of pregnancy, but also for example, brain dead but biologically alive patients (Terri Schiavo case was based on this) do not fulfill the definition of "being", therefore killing these is not murder.

Your choice, your responsibility. Shared choice, shared responsibility. Equality. See how that works?

Yeah, but it's her body so she has the tie breaker. I understand your point, but if a child isn't something you want then just wrap it up. It isn't 100% foolproof, but it drops the chances of pregnancy significantly.

Your choice to have unprotected sex, your responsibility to deal with the aftermath. That works too.

I can find definitions to! and better yet...I can recite the "entire" definition. But even better? I can also give you the source where I find my definitions

www.thefreedictionary.com...

which states the definition as: a member of any of the races of Homo Sapiens; Man, Woman, or Child.

See, basically all you have done is reverted back to what I stated above...the old argument of "its a clump of cells." that argument is not good enough. Its not good enough because...you yourself are nothing more than a "clump" of cells. Its not you specifically that gives you thought, ability, reasoning..but its your brain, that is made out of "clumps" of cells that does that for you. Without your brain....you would not have your argument, your personality, your reasoning, you would be nothing but a human being, its why lobotomies would not work
A fetuses/baby's brain begins to develop as early as 4th week. The neural tube closing by the 6th week and blood pumping through its system. You will probably be interested to know that the brain does not stop developing until around age 25! Therefore, my mother could easily "abort" my 22 year old brother when he takes her credit cards agains!

This argument has come to fail with ....Technology! it rears its ugly head again. See, with technology we get all sorts of fun things....like...Ultrasound! Where doctors were finally, finally, finally able to see for the first time just what exactly occurs when an abortion is performed on a living being inside the womb. The being showed a complete understanding of fear and movement away from the object that was coming for it...he/she dodged the apparatus that they use for a D&C abortion several times...it then cries out in pain as the tool finally finds its mark. This is the video what has become known as "The Silent Scream" because...you can actually fully see the 8 week fetus scream out in pain...but obviously it cannot be heard due to it being in the womb. Technology is such a wonderous thing.
