I don't see any reason why I shouldn't believe you. The government lies about everything anyway. Even when the truth sounds better...they still lie. If they say something, I automatically start searching for another answer from another source, and I am usually right in doing so. It's funny that most politicians are so comfortable with lying that they do it hundreds and hundreds of times, almost as if they were American lawyers. Hmmm, What was Obama's job before he got into politics? I think I know already. You are talking, in this post, about the physical STRUCTURE of the Sun, and various temperatures in the photosphere, corona and other layers, etc. There are still as yet unkown mechanisma to account for the temperatures....this is why it is so interesting. But, reputable scientists scoff at the "Electric" model as a viable alternate "theory" to nuclear fusion!

1) Disclose all imformation and data to the general public in regards to an oncoming impact of enough significance to potentially cause an E.L.E the moment it is discovered. At which point the entire global economy is crashed, massive riots and pandemonium fills the streets. I'm sorry, but this is always touted as the number one reason for not informing the public of possible ELE's.

There's another sub scenario to scenario #1..the data is disclosed to the worlds population, the public first reaction is 'what the hell are we going to do about it?' The next step is a credible plan of action to save as many people as possible.

This would boil down to only three avenues of approach, 1. To attack the incoming body directly (somehow), 2. To devise measures to save the population, along with seeds, DNA, and other samples of flora and fauna, 3. Both 1 & 2 simultaneously.

Option 3 is the only really sensible option, as an event of this order will kill most of us and most of the life on this planet, so any other concern is irrelevant.

The 'economy' will not crash, it will simply not be a concern. Who's going to need an economy after an ELE? Nobody..so it's irrelevant.

IF there were a comet coming of considerable size and speed, could NASA indicate that it was smaller and slower? How different in appearance would two drastically different bodies appear until they were quite close?

As for the OP's assertion that the ISS would be hit, and not the earth?

If this thing swings near the earth at any point, as someone stated beforehand, it would be like a sand blaster. The earth would pass through the debris field with some bad effects, but the ISS would be lost.

Unless Jupiter is only 1 Km wide the comet is not 4 x its size. Its about 4 KM or 2.5 miles wide. Right now today its about 170 million miles away and yes if it was the size of Jupiter we would see it with the naked eye right now.

Really? Well tell me, mr super smart scientist or whatever you pretend to be, who has nothing better to do ALL DAY EVERY DAY than hang out on kook lunatic fringe conspiracy websites like this one, how does the corona achieve two million degrees kelvin millions of miles above the far cooler surface, eh? Why would they lie about THIS of all things? That doesn't even make any sense! Not that I don't believe you, I just don't get why they would do this.

They are dis-infoing and keeping silent because what can they really do to stop a comet? If you blow it up it will make a lot of little comets. It's going to take a lot of cash to launch a rocket booster to attach it to the comet and by the time we get it to the comet it may be to late.

We know of 3 spacial dimensions, length width and height.
Therefore 360 ^3.

So by my calculations we are looking at a 46, 656, 000 degree situation here.
Much larger than the mere 360 degrees we commonly assume.

If anyone desires to correct this calculation or give logical reasons why it's not legitimate, hit me up.

Edit to add :: Also my calculation ignored the fact that each degree of separation can be further sub-divided into infinite decimals. Therefore there are infinite actual possible angles of approach to any one point. But I digress.

Right, and because the very small volume of gas expands to fill an absolutely huge volume, it means it is very diffuse. It would have fewer molecules per unit volume in it than the best laboratory vacuum we can create here on Earth. In other words, there's not very much there. So there's nothing to worry about.

All the ports about the size are making a very big mistake... BIG ONE. Calculating the comet size by it's come is a mistake and a bad argument. They do not take into consideration .. Mass, Composition, etc...

Instead of using the length of the comet's tail to measure the scale of the comet, they should be talking about the size of the region of space disturbed by the comet's presence. But they don't. WHY ? They did it in 2007... why not now ?
