- The extinction of the Jurassic age;
- The Plague;
- Slavery;
- Medieval wars that wiped whole nations;
- Major (ancient) cultural and civilization clashes (Greeks, Chinese, Persians, etc);
- The disappearance of whole civilizations to the books of History(Ex.: Mayans);
- World War I;
- World War II;
- First economic Crash;
- 2 nuclear strikes;
- Major Earthquakes (from Lisbon's 1700's EQ that leveled half-country, to Chile's record braking EQ)
- Etc, etc, etc....

Bad thing's aren't just happening NOW. Bad thing's have happened through all of Humanity's history. Actually, we should feel pretty lucky, looking at the past.

Claiming the current events to be the warning to the end of the World is pretty pathetic. The only reason "these" are the signs, is the fact that we are living it. That's why people continuously whine about "the end being near".

Add to the historical ignorance, the fact that we are bombarded each day with bad news, wild-goose theories about 2012 and all the other bunch, and it's pretty easy to understand why the World is "going to end" every 5 to 10 years....

The funny and ironic side of all of this, is that provably, if something actually happens, everyone will be with their heads so high up their butts contemplating this whole bunch of theories, to actually see it coming.

Hi all,

Yes, I believe the end is nigh - Not for all maybe but for most.

- I am a little scared about the 2012-13 predictions.

I vote yes but i don´t think we are all going to die but if my vision comes true well that´s another story.... My guess is there will be a huge event in the next months or 2012 that will change our world forever. I´ve not decided yet if it´s for the better or the worse. Fact is there is alot going on around us and TPTB know very well what´s coming but they keep quiet.

Ps: I hope i will live as long to see the day of the first "official" contact. There are many people i would spam with "I told you so!". And of course i want to see the sceptics posting excuses all over the internet boards. That would be great.

My vote would be a YES! Most religions of the world have similar predictions! Almost all of them predict unusual events before the coming of GOD to Earth. THEN GOD would rule the Earth, they say!!

BIBLE ,QURAN, VEDAS all tell the same thing only differently. INDIAN NOSTRADAMUS, VEERA BRAHMENDRA SWAMY who was born in the 1600;s has written the future before going to JEEVA SAMADHI
(getting buried while alive) and has promised to come back in this time . He has written till 2046 by which the world would be in a peaceful state with a small population.

If 'world' refers to only Earth and the solar system, then: Yes.

Not total destruction, but we are all going for one hell of a ride. Some will take the ride up, most will take it down.

Too bad the human race rely too much on just the 5 senses to perceive this world. :\

Pfeh, the way I see it there is no true end, there are only personal apocalypses. Just as a single person might experience a sudden violent death, so may we as a people, as a race, experience such a sudden demise. I damn well think we've been diggin' our own graves for generations. Every time somebody ran into a big problem they never solved it, they just patched it up with duct tape and said "let our greater descendants clean up this mess"... Yet here we are still using fossil fuels for 80% of our power, it's pathetic. The greedy bastards have sold us up the river for the promise of riches and power and I like to think whoever's responsible for betraying their own kind will have their own special little niche in hell awaiting their vacancy

No, although all the hype being made about the supposed date (12-21-12) may make it somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. I believe mass chaos will be prevelant in the weeks leading up to the date, but it will come and go without any extinction level event.

Asking if the end is neigh on this board is akin to asking a regular joe schmuck if the sky is blue.

Personally, no. The world is science - I've seen nothing that proves the world is ending. Unrelated events even if catastrophic, does not prove a thing. They are unrelated. Unless of course, you are an advocate of haarp, and believe it is capable of causing earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and fires (not to mention taking down buildings and planes). If you believe in a super weapon wielded by the evil NWO suits trying to kill off the world for some ludicrous unknown agenda, nothing anyone is going to say will change your mind.

But in my mind, earthquakes - they happen. Especially where they HAVE been happening. Nothing new there. Climate change imo is real, and man-made, hopefully we will get our heads out before it's too late. If anything will do us in, it will be that. Worst is we'll off ourselves tho - the world will survive on. So.. no. It's not doomsday.

I believe the end is very near, so I vote yes, but not the end of the world, but the end of our "illusion" (Thank god) and for the new age to start, the final cycle of higher consicousness. I think many people are not ready for the real truth or won't be able to handle it and those are the ones that will be left behind IMO. Im soooo sick of this corrupt world and all our petty wars and individual countries. Almost ashamed to be apart of my own race sometimes :/ . We are due a good format c:

As many of us have always suspected anyway; all this thread really illustrates is that a greater portion of ATS'ers are hopelessly pessimistic, and prone to bouts of fear, paranoia and superstition.

There are three fundamental mistakes every doomsayer makes that invariably leads to their undoing. They are as follows:

  1. A failure to learn from previous mistakes. i.e Of all the thousands of predictions in relation to armageddon or the end of the world. Not one has come true. Thus the mistake is repeated.
  2. They somehow believe that this time it is 'different' or 'for real'.
  3. The failure to produce any empirical evidence to support said claims, thus relying on ancient superstition or gut feelings (personal fears & demons) as canon for their beliefs.

Impressionable people will be saying the exact same thing hundreds of years from now after everyone in this thread is long since dead.

Call me crazy but I'd personally prefer to live with a more healthy and positive outlook for the future.

Good points all, but what about the Bots? They'll be around forever...

As far as your #3 goes, the world's worst nuclear disaster currently in progress, ME uprisings, one of the largest earthquakes ever recorded...These types of things tend to push someone over the edge

I'm surprised you're not taking that into consideration IRM...

So I take it you're still a "No" ?

Web bots? They simply reflect the amount of said pessimism and fear circulating around the interwebs. As to them baring any resemblance to truth is highly suspect. You know computers.. junk in, junk out!

Sure... but they don't equate to 'the end of the world'. It's fear and irrationality that creates such illusions.

Good observation. I am however compelled to put across an equivalent observation of naysayers:

1. A failure of coming to terms with the assumption (based on the conditioned perception of previous 'mistakes'. i.e Of all the thousands of predictions in relation to armageddon or the end of the world.) that future events are determined by the logical inference that past predictions have failed which none has come true. Thus the mistake is repeated.
2. They somehow believe that this time it is 'not different'.
3. The failure to produce any empirical evidence to support said claims that nothing catastrophic will happen, thus condemning ancient superstition or gut feelings (personal fears & demons) as basis for their beliefs.

If you claim nothing will happen, isn't that just another prediction?
