you can split the beans, get medical care, and perhaps some generators fixed/going/etc

or lock em out, live in the dark with your beans, and die from some random bug bite or treatable issue like tetnis...

humanity must work together...singularly, we suck..our power above that of a wild boar is not just our ability to think complex thoughts, but work together to achieve complex goals...

because on a single basis, we are not that great of an animal...weak, tired, and except for a few, our survival instincts are dull at best...

Gold bars? 0o

wouldn't silver be more approprate?
I mean, if I have an extra loaf of bread, I will accept silver for it..but if you have only some giant gold bar..well, I will accept that also (no change).

financially, it makes more sense to invest in having stockpiles of silver verses gold, unless you have to emergency purchase...erm...well, what the hell would you need that requires gold? a survivalist isn't really worried about getting a limo...

not all of us suck on our own, and I don't think I really trust other people that much to consider giving my food away or giving up my bunker. Piss on that idea. I would be happy to help with labour, or help the community rebuild, but not a chance in hell will I give up my insurance, it is not my problem if someone is too dumb to stash some survival stuff I have and I did it off of a dismal wage and period of unemployment. I'll tell you something there is positively no excuse not to have at least 3 months of food and water stashed.

You're kidding me right? You are advocating that people be pathetically weak and be dependent on a doctor still in the event of a disaster? No thank you, I'll take my chances on my own and treating myself that is what I downloaded all of those guides for and made myself an "enhanced" medical stash for -- so that I won't be needing doctors, period. I've worked hard my whole life to exist away from this stupid society, if TSHTF I'll help fight the new world order or whatever it is but I will do it on my own terms and watch out for my own skin.

This is exactly what the problem is, people should stop being so specialized and be more diversified so that they are less dependent. In fact, it is best to not need other people at all, that way you won't ever be disappointed in anybody other than your own self. Honestly I live for being free of other people why on earth would I want to be just another regular turd that cannot live without other poor excuse, survival instinct-bred-out human beings, it is these poor snivelling excuses for people that got us into this mess in the first place and people with my attitude of independence who fought for and once had freedom in the USA. It's easy to bomb a town full of people, but good luck fishing all of us out of our foxholes, guerilla style will keep more patriots alive longer. I see there is some benefit to having a community I just don't see any benefit to giving away freebies to dummies that can't think a day past the present, plus there are plenty of people who have no useful skills what-so-ever and have nothing to offer, am I supposed to kill myself being mother teresa and feeling sorry for their stupidity? No thanks, find some other sucker. If we tried your idea the survivalists would all die out because they are by far outnumbered almost 50:1 with unprepared, babies who think they are adults, we'd be dead in the water fast with this plan. Till people start proving they are smarter my opinion will change when survival of the fittests changes that horrible, unsurvivable ratio. The ratio of parasites to providers is so far outta wack your plan of community would quickly fail and spiral out into chaos. Nope I am getting as far away from other people and as far out of view as possible. Even if the world doesn't turn to crap one day I'm still going there because I think that it already has. This is nothing but a slave labour world, and I'd rather live in the sewers than have to partake in this crappy lunacy any further.

Easy there, take the tinfoil of your head for a minute and let me be the first to tell you, If anyone should be worried it's me. I an ex-mil type and big bro knows everything I do. If I want a suppressor for my Glock, hell I just fill the fed's paper work out and two month's latter I could shoot my own dog's in the backyard and the neighbor's wouldn't know? If I want a 37mm grenade launcher I get on line and buy one, that simple. Now of course everybody may not know I have these things and I agree you do not tell the world but I do not worry about big bro, hell they have my DNA for Christ sake's, I expect to one day meet my military DNA clone at the door with him holding a suppressed pistol to my head saying," ill take it from here".
.....OH wait....I am the one with tinfoil on my head....*!@#$!

P.S. This reply was only intended for amusement only and does not imply that I own any of the above mentioned Item's.

i like the barter system.
i do it all the time for people.
simple repairs=free dinner(even tho i love to cook)
but makes me feel good helping out people who would otherwise get ripped off.
esp. the elderly
many times i get invited over for dinner from people i have done jobs for- maybe they just want someone to talk to or maybe just appreciative.
either way i like the barter system- what comes around goes around i believe

Not that I want to take this thread into a different direction...

But the point of this thread was to remind people to be cautious.
All too often I read posts about someone's arsenal or stash...
I just shake my head.

Just the same as Mybook or Facespace.
What is the point of boasting about what you have?

Getting prepared is not supposed to be an ego-trip.
Although there are people that turn everything into a competition.
Those people grind my gears.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to list off the things you own.
To anyone. Ever.
Regardless of their rank, affiliation or title.

It's your privacy.
Keep it that way.

And yes SaturnFX, we humans need to stick together to survive anything drastic.
But having the ability to live without a store or electricity for a month or more is very important these days.
Disasters strike without notice.
Although I use it now, I try not to rely on anything manmade. (electricity, water)
Looking at our infrastructure will tell you that disaster is inevitable.
Just because of our own poor maintenance these last few decades.
Might as well be positive and confident you can last more than a few hours.

Because, as a few mentioned already, if SHTF, it will be crazy enough outside your front door.

As a group, people are panicky and ignorant, as a single unit, a person can be rational and cautious.

I could care less who has what.
It's not the governent I am referring to, my original post clearly states that.
The intention of this is merely to inform those who brag to be cautious.
I've witnessed a few here and out in the real world who think it's some sort of race.
As if there's a winner of who can store the most.
With some of the people I've run across, thieves are just waiting for this to happen.

PS: My hat is made from palladium. Aluminum is so 2008.

Great suggestions, OP...S&F

Another unlikely entity that may advertise your stuff is the USPS, Fed EX or UPS man who delivers your freeze-dried food, etc. The delivery man once commented on the name of the shipper and wanted to know if I had a catalog for them. I gave him one and I think it was sincere interest on his part, but it could be another situation that people could find out about you.

Also, anyone who enters your house on a service call has the opportunity to spy out your situation. In fact I have heard Bright House cable provider has a security training program called "Bright Eyes" in which they spy out your place for Homeland Sevcurity. They have an agreement with Homeland Security to report on what they see in your house that they consider suspicious. See linked article below:

Perhaps mankinds time will soon be up and the few survivors who make it for a while will die shortly after, would it really be such a loss, mankind has destroyed this once beautiful planet and spends it's days thinking up even more savage ways to destoy ones fellow man. It may be a good thing, rather than a bad thing, and also if there is a survival plan in place for the hidden brotherhoods and the tycoons etc, then the only way I could contribute to the survival of the species, is as a slave or a food source, I think I would rather pass on that.

To know, but to be as though not knowing, is the height of wisdom. Bruce Lee said that, and I think it is an appropriate anecdote for all facets of every day life. It seems wisdom and knowledge have no need to be boisterous and assertive. Knowledge serves to improve the student. Then perhaps when an opportunity presents itself, the student can improve the lives of others. Not with an overt and raucous outpouring, but a gentle deliverance, applied only where beneficial.

I love people with your attitude.

Like a very close friend of mine always enjoyed saying "Be an ecoist, kill yourself".

Yes, humanity is one hell of a virus but...

In reply to your bold statement that the wiping of all humanity might be for good I'll ask you this - why don't you go ahead and actually do it yourself, rather than waiting for mother nature to do your job? I know the answer, question is whether you know it. Same goes for all the hypocrite doomsayers/wanters...

I, for one, in opposition, will actually try and survive, or die trying for two simple reasons - 1 - because I wouldn't forgive myself on the otherside for not trying to (it's how I am) and 2 - because I have reasons not only to hate humanity as it is, but to love it and see the beatiful reasons for it to continue to be.

Oh, and I would love it when people like you might come by my shelter if SHTF to beg for food and water cos they were too lazy and too pessimistic to do anything about it... Well, not that I have a shelter... Nor stocks of food and water. Actually, I'm an illusion, so yeah, you're currently reading a ghost post of a reflection of your own self. Go figure.

edit - S&F for you OP, a great piece of advice, and the reason you won't see me posting in the Survival section, except for this one post.

Great thread OP. Unfortunately, since I do have firearms in my house I feel compelled to inform the parents of my son's friends when they first come over to play. I think it's only fair that they know I keep weapons in my home but that they are secured in my safe, which only I have access to. I would hate for my son to tell one of his friends (and he does, he thinks it's 'awesome') and then their parents find out from their son. Some parents are probably against it and it's their right to keep their kid away if they so choose (although none have so far).

Besides, I believe that if TSHTF and people who are not well prepared become desperate enough to go after other people's supplies, they would probably bypass the home that has 'protection' in favor of the MANY that don't. I know I would.

You would be surprised to know of how many opportunist are out there, just use common sense and be careful of what come out of your mouth. Confidence and security are not to be betrayed. Silence is worth its weight in gold!

Hm.. Good tips. I agree with all of that, to be blunt. My location isn't disclosed here, but I tend to disclose even my address sometimes to trusted people. However, I'm a very prideful type of person, so I'm never worried about what could happen if someone, say, came to visit. Besides, if they were bad I'd like to have the chance to prove to myself I could get out of even a gunpoint situation. Call me foolish, but we all have a faults, right? However, I'm not about to tell about my belongings or their locations. I take FULL heed to that tip..

I bet even people who are 'really friendly ' now, would look at you in a different way, if they haven't eaten for 3 days, and know you have a decent stockpile.

I have some things in readiness that I don't tell anyone about.

Good post dude.

You just told everyone on this board!

When you order your big bulk package of 6 month or over survival goodies (dehydrated foods etc) the govt. will know you have them. Then they will take your name from a database and come get what you got for the good of the many. This is classic Obama/socialist agenda. Do you think they don't have this all factored in?

Always said that if TSHTF, it is best to get away from people - hide out until the "herd" thins a bit....I am quite sure you know what I mean.

I don't let anyone know about my prepping, and I don't try to inform people on issues at hand - the brainwashing of the public by the elite has been very successful. You can see things starting to fall apart, but for the most part people don't see it, they won't see it till it hits them in the face.

I don't plan on hanging out in my main residence when crap hits the fan....I will be getting away from urban areas....also, I know that the government is aware who visits sites like these.
