Edit: To curb the knee-jerk responses and people who can't read . . . I do not support the man. WHat he did was against the law.

My issue is with the mother who did nothing, until after her daughter was pregnant, then declined support from the man.

. . .

Cameron County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 25-year-old Sigifredo Galvan on a sexual assault of a child charge on Tuesday.

Court records released on Friday show he had been involved with a romantic relationship with a 15-year-old girl against her mother’s approval.

Wait . . . what?

--he had been involved with a romantic relationship with a 15-year-old girl against her mother’s approval.--

It gets better . . .

Court records show that Galvan told the girl’s mother he was willing to sign a document that he would take care of the girl and their baby.

The mother refused saying she had been trying to keep her and Galvan apart for the past year.
. . .
Galvan does not appear to have a prior criminal record.

Blame all the hate you want on this man. He should have followed the law . . .

BUT . . .

WTF? He was willing to take care of the child and the girl, but now they are stuck going to be stuck on welfare(don't give me crap. I live in the area. Single teenage mom = welfare).

Furthermore, the mother of the girl was trying to keep them apart?

Why did she not call the cops earlier? Why did she not discipline her child?

So blame it on the man. Let's not prosecute the mother for not lifting a finger, until the promise of welfare was available.

Friggin sick.

Blame the man? If a 25 year old women tried to hook up with me (Speaking hypethetically), I'd tell her to buzz off before I called the cops. If she didn't, someone I knew would....The girl is obviously an idiot for not calling the cops. I'm 15 by the way.

So a 25 year old man goes after a 15 year old girl - and you think this is the romantic story of the century?

Did you know that it is common standard procedure for men who want underage girls to be mules in the drug trade to recruit them by means of romance? The same for men who want young woman in the sex trade.

They actually go to high schools and pick out the girls with low self esteem (which is every girl about the age of 14) and tell them how beautiful they are and that they love them.....and I am sure you can guess how the story ends.

Yes - this man raped an underage girl - yes he is a pedophile and yes he should go to jail.

The mother took steps to prevent this from happening. What more could she have done in your opinion? Perhaps shackled her daughter to the wall.

Why are his intentions pure in your mind? He "loves" the girl. If he did, why did he take no precautions to protect her from pregnancy and disease? Why did he not love her enough to let her get in a childhood before becoming an adult?

Are you sure that he isn't the one who wants the welfare check and to send mommy out in the streets for more money?

You don't know that they will be on Welfare. You're assuming that based on nothing. She may live with her mom. She may marry the guy. Besides, do you know what the document he offered to sign required of the mother? Or anyone else? You may want to hold back your judgments until you see what this "document" said.

And why the need for a document? Shouldn't he take care of her anyway??? Why insist a "document" be involved? No one is stopping him from supporting the girl he sexually assaulted and his child.

Well, no matter the cause & effect, a 25 year old being with a 15 year old is wrong on all levels. & it's also wrong that the mother of this girl is putting everyone through court & distress, & removing the father from this soon-to-be childs life.

HOWEVER, she is 15, obviously thinking with emotion & not logic. She will probably find another man to take care of her & the child after she is 18, but until then, the mother & daughter can take care of the baby.

Which brings me back to the beginning. If you are 25, & you sleep with a 15 year old, you deserve to be in jail, because you already KNEW that was illegal! No excuses.

I had a friend who came to stay with me. He later revealed he was running from the cops because he had went from Washington all the way to Ohio to pick up his girlfriend & bring her back all the way to Washington. Later he revealed she was 16 & he is 21. I told him to get the hell out of my house. I didn't care what his lovey dovey excuse was, she was a child & not a legal adult, therefor, I consider him picking her up KIDNAPPING.

Her parents didn't even know she was halfway to Washington by the time they got home from work!

Btw, after I kicked him out, he moved back to Washington, cuz he was so sure everything had simmered down. No, a week later, the cops arrested him & now his ass is parked in the Anchorage, Alaska State Penitentiary, where he will remain for the next 10 or so years. He was a good friend of mine, but I will not stand for that crap.

Honestly, there's nowhere near enough information to make any judgements about it. Yes, it sounds bad. No, I'm not trying to defend the guy. There's just not much to go on.

I guess my point is, don't take one side or the other when we really don't know much about it.

If he really loved the girl why not just wait 3 years until she's legal and get married and live happily every after? Now look at the mess they are in. I don't blame the 15 year old girl, her judgement and common sense still needs to develop. I don't blame the mom for trying to protect her daughter who is only 15 but thinks she knows everything. I blame the older man who knew better but didn't wait.

Did I say that?

Did you know that it is common standard procedure for men who want underage girls to be mules in the drug trade to recruit them by means of romance? The same for men who want young woman in the sex trade.

. . .

Yes, I did. Perhaps you should read the link. He had no criminal record.

Yes - this man raped an underage girl - yes he is a pedophile and yes he should go to jail.

Not exactly. Perhaps you should go read up on your definitions.

The mother took steps to prevent this from happening. What more could she have done in your opinion? Perhaps shackled her daughter to the wall.

Really? She did? Maybe like . . . grounding her daughter? Calling the cops on the man? Moving?

Oh . . . that's right. She knew about it and did nothing until the girl was pregnant.

Why are his intentions pure in your mind? He "loves" the girl. If he did, why did he take no precautions to protect her from pregnancy and disease? Why did he not love her enough to let her get in a childhood before becoming an adult?

I did not say that his intentions were pure. I did say that the mother had ulterior motives.

Are you sure that he isn't the one who wants the welfare check and to send mommy out in the streets for more money?

I don't care about him. I am talking about the mother.

Would you call the cops if a 25 year old man was doing the nasties with your 15 year old daughter . . . hell . . . would you not call the cops if a 25 year old man even asked your 15 year old out on a date?

when i was fifteen if a 25 year old chick wanted me i would be all for it. why not?

on the OP though, i think its pretty dumb to have a relationship with an underage girl. underage girls get lots of guys in trouble consistently and continuously. it just the law follow the law not your heart. I know its hard but really, and I see the hypocrisy of putting the father in jail at a time when his child needs support, but thats because as some would say he's taking advantage of an underage victim, committing a crime.

Ummmm wrong.
A predator violated a baby, it is nothing more than that and very simple to see.
15 + 25 = prison. There's the math, you cannot argue or refute math.

Statistics show that that is the case . . . even more so in the area that I live.

He signed it in court, so it could not have been anything off the wall.

And why the need for a document? Shouldn't he take care of her anyway??? Why insist a "document" be involved? No one is stopping him from supporting the girl he sexually assaulted and his child.

To show that he cared?

I dunno. I am not in his mind, and I am not condoning what he did.

I am more disturbed by the mother who did not do anything about it.

Why is she an idiot? She was dating the guy apparently.
Honestly the guy isn't a pedophile. By that age the girl is a young woman he isn't attracted to a child or anything.
He was in the wrong because she isn't emotionally developed (a modern phenomenon that 15 year olds are so immature).

If they were dating they should just let the guy go, take care of the girl and the baby and marry her.

I agree with everything you wrote except this.

The mother knew about the relationship for at least a few months.

Why did she not do anything about it until AFTER the girl was pregnant?

If any pervs even look at my daughters, some asses are going to be kicked.

there is no excuse..the grown man is a pedophile and should be locked up....she 15 yrs old,she not even finish puberty for christ sake....let me tell you..if it was my daughter..he be spending the rest of his living life in a wheel chair...or in a deep ditch where no one would find him.

these sort of men who prey on young girls disgust me.

Both parties (the man and the young girls mother/father) are at fault IMO. The girls mother should have filed a PFA order against the man. The man should have obeyed by the "age of consent law" granted he knew she was 15 and she didn't tell him she was older, which happens very often with young girls lying about their age. The girl, well, now a days it is hard to tell if a girl is 15 or 18 with the way the majority of them dress and the age of sexually maturity getting younger and younger, You cant necessarily blame a man for being just that, a man. Granted his display of a lack of self control is disgusting. Even if she was sexually mature beyond that of a child, which she is or else she wouldn't have gotten pregnant, she is still too young for a man that age.

But who knows, maybe the girl told the man she was 16 17, or 18, which I believe is the age of consent in most states is 16 (16 will still land a man is prison so why the age of consent is still 16 is beyond me). Soo, if the man believed the girl was 16 (i'm not saying he was) he would have believed she was legal due to the "age of consent law". Does this make it right for a 25yr old man to have these types of relations with a girl that age? In the American culture, no. In many other cultures? Yes. Personally do I find it repulsive? Yes, yes I do.

this is an ethics war. ethics are created in our own minds. ethics are created by the government. the human body is not. it is completely natural for a man and a woman no mater on the age to be romantically involved as long as their bodies are matured enough for sex. In no way even in my right mind would i ever date anyone under the ages of 23 because i know for a fact that the brain is not fully developed until then, but it still pisses me off that there is always somebody out there trying to control our lives.

so if you want to blame somebody, blame this god forsaken government, and our loveless country.

It takes two to tango

I don't think the guy should have been jailed for it - it does say they had a relationship and there's no indication of rape. The girl let him have sex with her, it's as much her fault so why is she let off?

If the guy's willing to take care of the child then the case should have be dropped and they should have been given a slap on the wrist. Just my opinion
