One would think ones faith should have very little to do with the physical world. It strikes me, that to many are worshiping false idols, to kill over a book, would have to indicate that the perpetrator has serious mental issues, and should be perhaps seek professional help, prior to doing such a terrible thing or at least dispatched back to their respective god, gods or deity.

We should all remember that Islam is still a young religion so it is going to have very violent strong views on itself. At the same age that Islam is Christianity was in the middle of the Inquisition and invading non christian countries to "turn" them to God. Thousands of people died in the name of the "church" for Christianity. Muslims are right smack in the middle of the fanaticism on their timeline, in a few hundred years they will calm down and a new "violent or fanatical" religion will rise.
I agree that burning of a holy book does NOT give permission to kill others, regardless of the religion. Plain and simple there is no excuse to call for genocide. This planet is too small for everyone to start knocking each other off.

Islam is not young, it can be traced all the way back to Abraham, with the Monotheistic belief and Worship of "One" God, the True God "of" Abraham. Islam is and Arabic word meaning, peace, submission and obedience to the One God, so if you are like Abraham in your beliefs, you can very well be called "Islamic".

As per the second part of your sentence; even if something is "new" it cannot be justified for being violent. All aspects of "Religion" carry a sense of violence, passion and strong views. I personally think the more passionate about "Religion" a person is, the more they will be perceived as extreme. So you are right to point out that many along the way of "faith" or Religion, have died because of, or due to, or even killed in the name of [said Religion].

But....to deliberately provoke someone whom you know is passionate and even extreme about something by burning it?! This man is a pastor, thus means he is of the house of God (if he believes and we believe) and this is what he does as a carrier of a "house of God title"? Ultimately, I see it as a blast in the face of God. Let's just say....(for those who are not sure) that the Quran was ordained by God, through and Angel...if one burns it or even suggest the act, I would say by all clarity, the one burning it is a "devil" period.

provoking someone about their religion is an excuse for death and/or dismemberment? there is NO EXCUSE...muslims need to learn how to let words said by @@sholes go in one ear and out the other. being a white westerner, if i had killed everyone that insulted me, or cursed at me, or put me down...i would be guilty of hundreds of murders.

Normally i'd agree. Pretty sure this would be one of those exception moments though.

Ostracized at a bear minimum.

Is it not time that man thought god out of existence and thought for himself and just let the God do the God things. It strikes me as very odd that man appears, to be the only creature on this planet caught up on a god of some type. I do not see any other animal on this planet getting together to reinforce a belief or paying homage to some form of deity..

This Pastor really only exposed the type of people that follow this "holy" book, that says it's a teaching of peace and tolerance. He showed Islam simply does not exhibit any of this, and it's murderous and barbaric, for a large amount of people. Yes, sure, not all Muslims are. Most people do not agree with the book burning, but burning a book in a free country is his right, and in no way is any "reason" for people to riot and murder. This is no different than the Muhammed cartoons, they did the same thing because of that. Islam and freedom simply do cannot exist together. They have to be tolerant of others, even if the others do stupid things, or say stupid things. If a Muslim got on video and burned a Bible, the Christians would not start rioting and killing.

While I AGREE with you...if provocation were not "someones" excuse then don't ya think we would have little to NO crime/murder/killings in this world?? The point I was trying to address is that the pastor KNEW this was an out right provocation, he knew there would be repercussions yet he did it anyway. In all honestly, what I'm now seeing as the influence in this world is "rebellion", this is what stands out the most to me

When will people realize there are "extremists" no matter what religion or belief. Why can we not all wait until the end of our exisitence and let the deity or dieties determine which side was right. In the meantime, "why can't we just get along?"

Isn't this they same guy who makes money counter-sueing people who sue him and his flock when they protest a soldier's funeral?

Please understand our basic rights before touting them around, people do your homework.

Freedom of Speech and First Amendment rights are not absolutes. no, you are not allowed to yell fire in a theater. You are not allowed to stand outside and cry for teh assassination of the President.
Anything that incites crime, violence, and creates danger is not protected under the freedome of speech.

So not only did this person knowingly violate our own laws, but he caused the death of many UN members, who are not even citizens of this county.

This is a travesty of the worst crime, and those church members should be put on trial.

And before people crucify the Muslims, understand that whole story as well. When the news broke, there wasn't that much of an outcry. It wasn't until President Asif Ali Zardari condemned it strongly that the riots broke out.

The Muslims should not be killing because of a book burning. But they have also shown us great weakness in that they are extremely sensitive to such things.

Both sides are wrong and both sides need to be condemned.

Wtg Pastor Terry Jones. Way to give the rest of us "Christians" an even worse name and incite even more violence and hatred in the world. Wouldn't Jesus be proud. Did you NOT think that they would use the same "violent, murderous" tactics that you hailed against the koran to retaliate?? Well, I guess they helped you prove your point huh?

You know scripture tells us that we are "set apart", that we are different. As a professed "Christian" I would think you know this. So what makes you any different than the Muslims burning the Bible, flag, effigy's, in the street and aired on the MSM if you are doing the same thing with putting the koran on mock trial and then burning it?

Here's an idea. If we really want to reach the Muslim community, why not go out and talk to them NOT blast them with why their "god" is wrong and bash them in the head with bible verses, but with why Jesus is right. You don't even have to mention "allah/koran". Tell them why Jesus loves them and what He did for them, then let God take care of their hearts. We don't have to be all "evangelical" like either. Just talk to them like human beings. I am quite satisfied with planting the seeds and letting others water them and/or letting God change and grow them. I do not feel the need to "save" every single person. I am not the one that saves, only Christ, but I can certainly plant the seed and let God nourish and grow it if He sees fit to do so.

I have so much I could say on this subject and continue for hours, but I won't. I am just so frustrated with these attention grabbing "Christians' like this pastor and Westboro Baptist Church because it is so hard to see that some of us Believers do not think or act or believe like these people do. Only the "mean and ugly" Christians make the top news headlilnes or make it into small print when our churches are burned/demolished and we are tortured and killed. But you rarely see that on the news, because it's too "graphic" to show or it might "offend" someone. So let's rape the news headlines with "war and rumors of war" and a "Christian" burning the koran and those that retaliate in response. I know I need to get off my pulpit. Sorry.

So Afghans riot and kill UN staff, burn US flag and MSM and ATSers blame it on a Florida pastor? Looks like the western establishment warmongers are attempting to put blame on one Florida pastor of a congregation of 50 for the uprising of afghans which was most likely sparked by the recent release of those kill/trophy photos and the ongoing murders of hundreds of thousands of innocent Afghans over a 10-year illegal occupation. MSM criminal war propaganda is alive and thriving on ATS.

This post makes the most sense..I seriously doubt they are killing people over some obscure FL pastor.

ETA: Oh and just because you have the 1st amendment "right" to freedom of speech, doesn't mean you should use it, especially if it incites violence, rage, or murder. PERIOD!! Some people just need to learn to keep their mouth shut. This is not about his "right" to express his views, this is about hatred on BOTH sides and one man's insatiable appetite to grab news headlines for HIS cause, not Christ's. Jesus knew that He was innocent and yet never fought back when they were nailing Him to the cross. He never burned other religious "scrolls" and made a mockery of other peoples beliefs. He simply prayed, taught in the temples and His disciples, and healed those who were afflicted.

This person is probably right. It wasn't "just" this pastor's actions, but it certainly didn't help. AND right now the MSM isn't even talking about the other possible reason, "the photos" as well as probably a hundred other reasons. Right now it is only the "Christian" burning the Bible and these extremists pointing fingers in Terry Jones direction. So right now, it is completely fair to comment on this man's actions.
