In answer to the thread question:

They won't and that sum's up America's greed. They weren't "from the developed world" or seen as your typical white, proud American so America couldn't give a crap. Just look at them in Afghanistan, trigger happy, killing Brits, Civilians, News Crews...

They couldn't care about anyone but themselves, they will destroy the image of a certain race of people just so the typical American can succeed.

Now, in an age where equality matters America have stepped up their game and they are citizens, but why shouldn't they have been citizens in the first place? They're more American than any of them!

you know. as a white american, 38 years old. i can tell you right now that your never going to get an apology from me for something someone else did 50+ to 100+ years ago. you wernt alive, neither was i. nor did you grow up in a country that approved those actions anymore.

as a people and as a nation we have grown. the only people holding any minority down is simply themselves. i dont care if your spanish, asian, chinese, korean or indian. i know that myself and everyone ive ever met has treated anyone ive seen pretty much the same manner.

you get made fun of just as much in our group if your white, black, or red we dont care! and while yes we have encountered racism from friends of friends they normally arnt invited back or quite simply told to cut the # out.. and thats if they are joking and take it to far... now if they are serious.. i quite frankly believe that myself and most of my friends would show them the door after having a few select words to say.

if you want success and acceptance in this world it comes down to you as the individual. nothing stops you from improving your lot in life. a stint of hard work an extra job and a 3-4 years of sacrifice can pull almost anyone out of a bad situation. most of these type of threads or individuals i hear talking about this kind of bull. are individuals who have a tendacy to be lazy, want the world handed to them, and want to cry woe is me when things dont go right from the start.

you want to improve your life.. start by getting off your seat.
no, you were alive, they did move Natives onto radioative land fills and told them to live there, their water source would be 150 times the normal acceptable radiation levels, they would steralize women is this in your time?

I know some of you none red folks think it's funny... but you just don't know what it's really like... to be shunned by your on government... a prime example is this case...

70,000 people on the Navajo Nation live without easy access to one of the most basic necessities of life. That’s the same population as Santa Fe with no running water that is safe to drink, safe to wash vegetables with, safe to bathe children in. And they are U.S. citizens.... why no public outpouring? well maybe it's because they are just some dirty dusty Indians and not like real citizens ....

if there is a second class citizen in this country then most of us red folks fall well under that fellow...

It's not just here in the US BTW... if you want to learn how Canada treats her Native population go read my current thread about murdered women...

They arent U.S. citizens.

They dont pay taxes and they live on our land. They arent citizens. Why should my tax dollars go to giving them an even easier life then the one they already have? If youre an indian you basically dont have to work a job for the rest of your life, thats how easy it is to be an Indian. I really am not interested in hearing about these arguments because you native americans complain way too much when you have absolutely no grounds to base these claims on. You are not a victim, and neither were generations before you. This war is hundreds of years old. Get on with your life.

The Navajo Nation's government is not the US Government. It is a sovereign nation with it's own government. New president elected every 4 years and such. Are the Navajo government officials shunning?

Did you know that in the western US the majority of oil leases (47%) lay on Native grounds... Yup there in Navajo Lands too... So what would happen if we told you white folks to pack your trash and split.... we Red folk do pay taxes... Hell I'm a retired US Marine... did ya know we have a Native American Consolata in Washington DC.... our first official visit was from China...

We are a power a force that needs to be reckoned with... treat us as equals and we got no problems, treat as as pests and we can show you what a sting we have...

Seriously, I used to think African Americans complained way too much about the past. Im gay, and I dont even complain this much about how were treated in this country TODAY. He is acting like its still the 1700s. Here in 2011 we treat homosexuals as second class citizens and thankfully thats slowly starting to change. Lets talk more about how unfair it is what the mass populace of this country does to homosexuals. Because of their stupid religious beliefs I cant visit my partner of 6 years on his death bed should he ever go to it because im not immediate family. My lifestyle offends their ideology of hatred and as a result im the victim because they can vote to eliminate the rights of minorities - my rights.

Day to day life, Indians arent committing suicide at 15 years old because they go to school and every kid they see is calling them a fa.ggot or pillow biter and they cant deal with the persecution. Black people are still being called a very bad word. What the hell do Indians have to complain about? Their massive casinos all over this country?

Dont give me that garbage. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. You dont pay taxes im sorry but you dont. I go and drive up to the reservation every week to buy cigarettes because the gov cant enforce taxes on those sales. You people are rich and rolling in the dough because of things that happened WAYYYYY before you were ever born. You live the life okay? Every U.S. citizen wishes they had the benefits afforded to Native Americans. As I just said in the last post, lets talk about gay people since theyre the REAL victims of this country in this day and age - the year is 2011.

THis is going to sound funny....My daughter married a man who's ancestor was Andrew Jackson!!! I think He really did not know any of the History of Andrew Jackson....Anyway... MY daughter told me of his heritage. She said she had told my son-in- law .."You had better not tell my Mom that, she will run you thru the brambles and the bushes like he did the Indians!!!!"
To keep peace in the family we do not speak of it....

Added to: My- son-law is one of the most likeable lovable people and is there to help anyone in the family when it is needed..He can't help what Andrew Jackson did.

Who would have to say sorry in order for you to finally be content? (as if its really bothering you)

Im guessing if I said sorry, it wouldn't mean anything to you. Is that because Im not part of the US government or because I had nothing to do with any of it since it was 300 years ago?

So what if the Government apologized? (formally?) Would you finally be happy? None of those assholes in the government had anything to do with it either. It was 300 years ago.

In fact, even you have nothing to do with it.

The first two pages of this thread set my soul into such a feeling of loss that I could read no more. The past can never heal because it is done, no amount of apology can suffice until "Judgment Day" when each of us reviews the life and actions we took against others.

However, I do believe that we as a Nation of People can recognize that this Land is the Heart; it is that simple, the Heart of the People resides here in the Land. The Continent with its mountains, with its streams, its animals and plants, this is the voice of the People, the Land, and it always was. The stories of Old and the folklore are still with us today entrenched all around us. We can awaken the Shamans, the Chiefs, and the Warriors within us all; then the past can be rewritten once again because these days, this day, will be the past once again and that cannot be changed, only the future can as we make this great Circle around and around to face ourselves.

We have choose to listen and nurture once again. The fundamentals of Spirit reside in recognizing our Mother and our Father in all things. The Ancestors are there waiting for us to open to them, so that we may receive the words and wisdom, and the thoughts of those who were so needlessly sacrificed; even the living were sacrificed by being forced to live without their "ways". They are all voices and they are surrounding each of us in our daily lives.

One day soon a Great migration will come, people will abandon these ways so that we can rejoin the Old in restoring this Nation into a Great People once again! No more will the Past destroy the Past by simply forgetting, we will unearth the Mother from her prison of poisons, greed, and lust that have swept across her back.

To the Father Sky and the Mother Earth, bless all who encompass Us in our Journey Home! Bless anyone who can feel such Pain as I have today!

I don't live on a Rez anymore... grew up on one...
the wife and I just sold our townhouse (In a upscale gated community) and bought us a small mini farm as our retirement digs
in the past decade there have been a few industries move up there... mostly related to the Oil biz and farming...

I don't believe I said a majority would. The "few" that did would be costly and would only set precedent for future litigation. All it would take is one activist judge handing out an obscene judgment setting the precedent for future obscene judgments.

I wasn't putting words in your fingers, I was stating my own opinion. Once the "apology" came and set a precedent for future obscene judgments my opinion was that one or two might try but the other Indians will hold them back or perhaps their own lawyer might as well. If they were to sue, than what is the point of the millions they get, the land they get, free education...etc. If you are going to sue. Then become part of the American melting pot. Once you sue, you don't get preferential treatment..and I don't think the majority of them would like that. That is all I was saying. Sorry if you misunderstood my words.

You wouldn't tell your white wallet to leave because you need us too much. If you TRIED to get the corporations to leave...not only would your people be starving again, but, they would need to rely on the gov't AGAIN. Then this cycle would keep continuing.

As a side note...when Indians talk about being one with nature and respecting mother earth...are oil derricks an exemption to that rule!??!?? Give me a break. Every culture wants more than what they have...your just has PAST history to complain about. Unfortunatly my gov't falls for it. You won, now be quiet and let us finish raping the earth.

I just can't convince people these atrocities happened a mere 30 years ago, moving people onto toxic dumps, involuntary sterilizations, these things didn't happen 100's of years ago, our government has been in on it, there are people from the 70's and 80's still in power today

don't tell me that gays are the victim in 2011, they are all celebrities, "quuer eye for the straight guy" and perez hilton all show that gays, while not acceptable by all, are still being accepted, laws are being reformed all the time for gay marriage and etc, meanwhile, a Native leaves the reservation, and is constantly harrassed, and looked at funny, my Husbands brother, was traveling to a large town called Fargo ND, and was pulled over, the cop told him the only reason why he pulled him over, was because of his Tribal Plates, you don't have Gay Plates cops don't look at you because of some over distinctive physical quality you have
