I hear you man I had to drop out of college for similar reasons...now I'm back living with the family. I really didn't think this would happen to me but you can't always plan for the curve balls of life. My problem now is I really can't see myself working in a regular job like everyone else for the rest of my life, and it's not because I'm lazy...it's that I just don't care. Working for a company, doing the same thing everyday---it's just boring to me. And I'm not much of a people person - I lose interest or get bored of people really fast.

Like you said, college really isn't for everyone- I know a lot of people think college is a scam, and maybe it is for some. Like you said if you don't know what you want to do in college don't go- there's no point in wasting a bunch of money on tuition.

Btw man my brother is making a killing as a mattress salesmen and he didn't even need his 4 year degree to get the job....so yeah college definitely isn't required to have a decent life. That is the lie that our generation has bought.

you never know when they decides to collapse there papers.

The fact is, we are slaves from the moment we are born. Only slaves have to work. Although I enjoy my work, sometimes, as a lawyer, I would much rather spend my day with my loved ones than keeping a failed system running. It wouldn't really matter what I do. If I am forced, by economics, to take time out of my life and that of my loved ones to earn green paper then there is something very wrong about that. It's always had a tinge of "demeaning" to it. Oh sure, if this slave were out of work, I would be forced to seek employment or otherwise starve and live homeless. There's nothing admirable about that.

The whole problem is rooted in the fact that we have a monetary system. I believe, and others have as well, that we should have a money-less economy. I'm not sure how we could accomplish that, however, given how so many are happy as house-slaves and don't even think about true freedom...

YES! I hate to work.

To top it off I had been gradually sucked into materialism, I had a brand new sports car that lost its appeal the next month when something new came out, the new cell phone that suddenly became annoying once I read about a newer shinier one that came out, and now Im glad to say that I have COMPLETELY did a 180 and have become the most NON materialistic person ever. --- This is why ive started having these negative thoughts about work and how it controls our entire lives!

I want to put a reply I made further down in the thread right here because it also pertains to this OP:
******************************************************************************************************************************
I am NOT looking for an EXCUSE not to work! I am simply stating the the way the work is structured in today's world feels inhumane and un-natural.

And its not all about how much you make! I personally know someone who manages an entire Wells Fargo branch and makes roughly 350k net income per yr.

He gets up at 5 AM and gets home at 11 PM. This person also works Saturdays and every other Sunday too. HE HAS NO TIME to spend his money, and in fact drives a regular mid range Toyota, does not buy expensive things or live in an expensive house.

But my point is, no matter how much you make, you will still be dedicating 1/2 of your life to work, another 1/4 to sleep, and 1/4 is left for EVERYTHING else which includes errands, traffic, getting to and from work.

By the time you are 65 yrs old, you have only really LIVED for about 5 years, in which you could do what YOU WANTED to do.

************************************************************************************************************************************

Seriously guys, I just dont feel human having to work for a living so that I can afford food, housing, a car and clothes. I feel that if instead of that I was forced to hunt, construct shelter, and defend my family that I would do this gladly and not feel as if I was "working" for a living.

Thoughts?

I completely, 100% agree with you. You are not alone sir.

I wrote an essay on this very paradigm.

It does seem rather pointless to work and work to acquire more and more wealth, only to buy more "things." It feels unnatural because it is! This is not the key to happiness. Materialism is not the key to happiness. However MSM would have us believe otherwise, wouldn't it? I would do anything and drop it all if I could move to Tibet, live a pious, spiritual life in service of others. Live as a community of like-minded individuals.

I am not against work, not at all; it's necessary for survival. We are trapped in this system. I know the feeling and I can relate very much so.

Same here!

Actually I felt "forced" to go BACK to college after flunking out the first time. Like you, I'm not much of a people person hence the reason I failed in sales. So really what's left for me? I really can't stand this money-driven society we live in. Some people on this thread don't "get it." But it seems a few of us have woken up. We just aren't satisfied with how the current system dominates us...

Absolutely agree.

IMO it goes a bit deeper than this - consider the life path that we are all told we are supposed to follow. Job -> Car -> House -> Family. This has been carefully constructed by those in power to keep the middle class enslaved while siphoning the wealth to the top of the chain.

You NEED a job so that you can eat, unless you have others that can support you.
You eventually need to buy or rent a house. Now you either have a debt or rent payment and NEED that job even more, because if you stop working you lose everything and end up homeless on the street (if not for aid from the Government). Most people need a loan to buy a house because they are priced outside of the range where you can comfortably save up for one.
If you buy a car, you will probably have to take out a loan to get one, which again makes you dependant on working.

When you also consider that most jobs out there could either be done by a machine (e.g. Mechanics, doctors to a degree, service staff) or exist solely to keep the economy ticking (e.g. Stock Brokers, accountants) the picture begins to become more clear - that this is a carefully crafted trap to fool you into thinking you are free when in fact you are not.

Debt is slavery and having a job is slavery.

If we utilised our technology then most of the labour that is done by humans now could be done by machines. The reason this isn't done is because people need jobs to keep the (fake) economy spinning AND NO OTHER REASON.

I reccomend you look into the idea of an abundance-based economy and free energy - IMO these ideas are what we need to be looking at to change the way we are living. If menial labour is mechanised and there is free energy for everyone, while everyone just gets given for free all of the basic necessities of life (home, food, water, energy) then we can do away with Money (there, I said it!) and so many of our corrupt power structures. You'll also see people's well-being increasing, crime decreasing and a majority of the world's ills being solved almost overnight.

But of course, there's no money in that, so why should we do it? :/

The Zeitgeist films go into this idea in greater detail too.

Just so everyone knows, even though this is a very FAST moving thread, I have been reading all the replies to my thread very carefully.

For some I would like to say thank you for your realistic insights and advice.

For others, I would like to say that I found some of your posts negative and adding to my view of "self perpetuating doom and gloom) you can see my thread of the same name to read more about that.

AND ONE MORE THING I HAVE TO MENTION

Are you all out of your minds calling the poster's "Deaf Alien's" reply a racial post? ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS?

I found absolutely nothing wrong with the photo he posted with the Native American speaking to a US govt official.

What is wrong with people who instantly scream "RACIST" when the hear the word "white" or "black"?

This is the same conditioned response I received in my highly speculative thread about ETs being Oriental Humans from the future.

You even made the poster apologise? I found NOTHING RACIST with his post.

Deaf Alien, you had no need to apologize to anyone, I found your post with the Indian chief very informative and wish we could go back to living how they did back then (especially the part about having sex all night!)

Kind Regards,

GeminiSky

This is going way off topic. My post was not intended to be racist. Only that there were some societies that had natural way of life and work.

well let's think ahead and a little better now shall we ? hope I could help you out on this subject...

you could have explained yourself better like you are trying to do now instead of posting an image with no dialogue of your own.

do not bring racism to ats, it can do without it and it is the old way of thinking...

edit on 2/13/2011 by Cosmic.Artifact because: (no reason given)

Whoa buddy, "lets think a little better shall we?" "dont bring racism to ATS"

How the hell are you even formulating sentences with a mindset like that? WHERE IS THE RACISM IN "Deaf Aliens" post?> Because the native Americans called white men that they had never seen before in there life..."white men"? What were they supposed to call them? Eastern Europeans? LOL They didnt even know what or where Europe was.

You asked the him since he was white, if he felt guilty for the actions of his forefathers? Like he had anything to do with Europeans CENTURIES ago that exploited the native people of other lands....How ignorant is a question like that?

How about you explain yourself a little better instead of asking others of the same. I feel "Deaf Alien" explained himself just fine, even though HE DIDNT HAVE TO EXPLAIN HIMSELF to people like you who throw the race card around like it was a license to troll.

Seriously, if there is anything racist in any thread simply alert the mods and they will make their own conclusions.

STOP TRYING TO BE THE "ATS HALL MONITOR"
Let the mods do their job!

so to quote you again "cosmic artifact" Lets think a little better shall we?

Slightly appalled,
