Actually this seems to be a bit North of the Caledonian rift, but I recall something earlier in the year near this area.

I will see if I can pull the waveforms on that and will take a look at your thread.

Date/Time UTC,Latitude,Longitude,Magnitude,Depth(Km),Location
2011-08-22 11:23:00, 36.200, 141.900, 6.0, 30.0, Ibaraki-Ken Oki (JMO)
2011-08-22 11:23:35, 36.050, 141.770, 5.6, 10.0, Nr. E. Coast Of Honshu Japan (EMSC)
2011-08-22 11:23:38, 36.107, 141.698, 5.9, 34.5, Nr. E. Coast Of Honshu. Japan (USGS)

Pursuing these magnitude types further USGS have

mb = 5.5 (270) ML = 5.5 ( 10) mblg = 4.9 ( 22) md = 0.0 ( 0) MS = 5.5 ( 13)

Phase Data

The mb value seems to agree with EMSC bar .1 but USGS have issued it as Mw, which closely approximates MS, yet the MS figure is shown as 5.5, and the 5.9 GS (GueSstimate) does not appear in the figures anywhere.

I am going out now to bang my head against a brick wall. I think it will be very pleasant.

So... does the new earthquake swarm in Japan indicative of something big to come?

I hope not... is the ``aftershock`` still in play or?

Hi here is one of the Glenfinnan ones early this year.
Origin date/time: Sun, 23 Jan 11 06:02:49 GMT ; Location: Glenuig, Highland 4 22km WSW Glenfinnan ; Lat/long: 56.822,-5.784 ; Depth: 16.2km ; Magnitude: 3.5 ML
I have several Highland ones of various strenghts stored on my email. I keep them all very sadly.

I think you have misinterpreted Vitch. I was showing three versions of the same quake - USGS/EMSC/JMO to illustrate the differences.

The cumulative totals graph looks stead so there is no increase in activity over and above recent norms.

ETA: I think this post is in need of a graph:

edit on 22/8/2011 by PuterMan because: graphz is good and graphz is kind, they tells you wot i haz in mind.

You should not keep them all very sadly, they need to be kept happy!

Anyway, that aside, here is a little excercise I did this afternoon for amusement - now that is sad!!!

"KEV and WVT fall in the P/S wave shadow zones.

Kermedec

you are still missing an important wave density,,,,solar,, it is dense and a wave, and if the earth was a tuning fork, it would hum!

To which I have to say - prove it!

Now as it happens I have come across some new information which may indicate a connection - not with the CMEs but with the sunspot activity.

I have to study it before I make any comments.

I'm glad you did that because when I opened LISS SNZo this morning I thought hmmmmmm another 6.
Looked through the USGS 7 days list and my eye went straight for the 5.9 Japan, but the times didn't match, then seen the Kermadec 5.5.
Next question was "Ridge" or "Trench" ( Australian Plate or Pacific Plate) as that makes a difference at SNZO.
Looks definitely on the Australian Plate given the shallow depth, but just on the AU/PAC edge overlap.
Big trace for a 5.5 none the less.

OK, is this just a computer glich?

hisz.rsoe.hu...

I know there were issues with the site earlier today, but at time of writing all their EQ data is 'missing'....not on maps or listings.

No it is RSOE and all earthquakes have been cancelled. They just did not happen!

I guess it is a computer glitch - maybe like me a few minutes ago they lost their connection to the States.
