sure would be nice too know if it is slip
or breakoff,,
or breakthrough,
the land mass rises on two plates,,a harder base plate, and a less rigid plate on top,
then, there is a very high undersea cliff,
as far as i can tell,,
so might be movement of one of two things,,
old plate, moving everything, upward,
old plate falling downward

or
its splintering,,
splintering means volcanic activity, too follow.

With the varying depths from Vanuatu, are these volcanic? Or foreshocks?

?

Didn´t a very similiar Sequence occur before the Honshu (The Mag 9.0) Quake? I mean this 7+ Double Tap.

Edit: @Bob,English isn´t my first Language, but thanks for correcting me anyway

Well don't quote me, and my program crashed getting into GE, but I guess these are tectonic. I was going to have a look.

That does not mean they may set something volcanic off however.

Yes, I had not looked to closely at where in Vanuatu, but more than likely tectonic based on distances. Port Vila is not a good place to be right now.

With the relative sizes, do you think foreshocks?

Probably a Swarm, a lot of the aftershocks are still in mb so if they were converted to Mw they might be just as big as those 7's.
Note the 2nd one is Mw converted from Ms there is no mb reading for it.

We'll have to wait for the Russians.

Half time, we are losing

Difficult that one. I guess you could say that the 7.0 and preceding 5+ ones were after shocks of the 7.1, but whether you could call the 5.1 before it a foreshock I am not so sure. Seeing as 5.1 is not an abnormal magnitude for this area I would think probably not.

I think a seismologist would need to say if these are two separate entitles. but I don't see how they can be as they are so close together. I think the 7.0 is an aftershock personally, even though it is nearly the same magnitude.

It was posted as two - see my post above - and the 7.4 got deleted as I suspected it would.

We are left with 7.1 and 7.0 now.

Don't have much to say except wow. You guys, as always, are on the ball.
Oh, I hope these were the Main and the After and not the Fores.

There are mb readings for both on EMSC, including the first which they still have at 7.5

Looking at the two sets I would say that EMSC is wrong and that will be adjusted.

ETA: Note that on USGS the readings in the phase data are eP, and therefore Mb, where as on the second one there is not one eP reading so these are almost certainly all Ms.

I may be wrong but there is just a small possibility that eventually, maybe not until after it goes off the 7 day listing, this second one will be reduced to 6.9

The average is a fraction over 7 but FORT is showing 8.1 in that list.
