Personally I think he was crying...

Some of you have pointed out that he had a 'grin' on his face when he lifted his hand - I submit that this 'grin' was more of a grimace. I have pulled almost that exact same face when trying to suppress an overwhelming urge to cry.

Having read the entire story, it's very odd no doubt about that. The one thing that sticks in my mind is how did the wife have gunshot residue on BOTH of her hands? I thought that perhaps he put the gun in her hand and then fired it, attempting to make it look like suicide, but that falls apart when realising that there were no gunshot burns on her face - something that would have occurred either if she shot herself or he put the gun in her hands and fired.

Anyhoo, just my 2c.

I watched this to prove he was crying, because I know how crying people can make odd faces.
But instead, it convinved me he's a conman who was overrating himself.

At 2.56 there is a huge grin on the guy's face.
His eyes show an expression of triumph, as if he's thinking how clever he is to be fooling everyone.

But he didn't fool anyone...He was convicted of double murder and sentenced to life imprisonment...

Sorry, but he is crying, not laughing, whilst I cannot say whether his tears are genuine, whether he is crying because of the horror of the images, or because he knows he has been caught and with all of the evidence against him will most certainly be found guilty. But he is definitley crying.

If I may, Kailassa, what I'm more intrigued to know, as I have put to the OP, is what qualifies you to declare with absolution that ''his eyes show an expression of triumph'', how can you possibly know that from looking at this video? The problem with responses like yours, is that you make a statement and within that statement you leave little or no room for open discussion, or at least an opportunity to challenge your views. I wouldn't be so quick to call you out on your post if you had put something like ''in my opinion'', because afterall, you're entitled to that and then we'd all be aware that it is your opinion.

His eyes were not laughing.

The guy only lowered his hand from his face when he could force a smile.

This guy is not happy and he doesn't want you to see that.

There's no information in any of her posts that would lead me to think that, nor are there comments within her posts that I believe would lead others to think that. In no way am I defending this man. I think what he did was one of the most heinous crimes a person could commit, period. However, I want to add that I think either he did this laugh/cry thing purposely because they intend to go the insanity route, or he is just unstable.

There are conditions people can have that make them express emotions in various ways that we find abnormal.

Some people laugh when what they really feel is pain. This is just a fact. I'm not saying this is what he is doing, I am just saying it is possible. We don't know what's wrong with this guy but I would guess it is something in the realms of neuroscience. He could very well have a communicative or thamalic disorder, or emotional incontinence, they all mix up emotions, and a person would literally laugh from pain or sadness. For some people this poses no real threat, but obviously for some it can be a very damaging thing, especially if he went through his whole life without seeking help. Many people with untreated disorders of this kind can go on to commit crimes or commit suicide. It's very sad.

I am no doctor though, just a person who likes to delve into neuroscience. And I've also been around many people with communicative/neurological disorders. So it's the first thing that came to mind when I saw what he was doing.

Of course this does not in any way make what he did any less horrible! But if they found out what was wrong with him (I think anyone who does what he did must have a problem of some sort, to be able to take the life of your child or anyone for that matter), at least family members could grasp some sort of understanding of what happened.

At first I thought the guy was crying but after watching the whole clip I'm sure he's laughing. It gets quite clear at some points. Of course, in some cases people might laugh when they're extremely nervous.

But how do we even know for sure what's really happening in the film? Maybe they're just watching a funny film and the other person just don't get it
