I am going to assume that you read a few pages then posted. Another poster, posted a link to a Navy site that shows ship movement.

here are the facts.. read them.. They have been vetted. Why do people not investigate? I am guilty also.. I believed the figures right off the bat.

“I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we were deploying 10 percent of the Navy — some 34 ships and an aircraft carrier — in support of the president’s trip to Asia,” said Morrell at today’s Pentagon briefing. “That’s just comical. Nothing close to that is being done.”…
The Indian media reports also say security for the Presidential trip will cost $200 million a day. Morrell “there’s been a lot of creative writing that’s been done on this trip over the last few days. I’ve seen other reports with some astronomical figures in terms of what it costs to take these trips. I don’t know the cost. We don’t speak to the cost.” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was blunt in his characterization of the cost reports, “this trip doesn’t cost $200 million a day.”

Look either way i'm sure its costing a fortune whether or not we know what ther "real" figure is but i'm pretty sure its in the millions per day! (my opinion).

You are right. It could be costing quadrillions. Why not? Let's get mad about it.

The point to my post was that instead of wasting this amount of money on 1 mans trip, why not share it around the US as it would be better spent. It doesnt really matter about the amount, its the principle behind it.

The principle kind of falls flat on its face without a number behind it. Even if it were really the ludicrous $ 200 million a day that you are basing you premise on, that only comes to 65 cents a person a day in the US. Would you like a check or money order? So this claim that all this money could be doing something good is kind of moot when you have no idea how much money we are talking about.

We could just pretend it is a lot of money that could be doing good and get mad about it, or be realistic, look at facts, and spend our anger on real problems. You have a tobacco lobbyist in control of the government purse strings now thanks to the Tea party and you are worried about and imaginary 65 cents that is by all acounts an overblown rumor? Tell me that makes sense if what you are truly worried about is money and what good it can do the American people. See what is happening with the Volcker rule right now. How about the debt ceiling? These things are real and are taking place right now to the detriment of the American economy. I can give you 65 cents. Can you do much good with it for the people?

The fact is that no one has been told how much money its costing so the figure i quoted could very well be correct.

No, the fact is that you have decided to just believe a rumor that does not even make logistic sense in any way shape or form because you heard about it on the internet where it has been repeated from one source - some foreign newspaper you have never heard of. They do not explain how they came by this information, they just offer it. You believe it just because it has not been flatly denied? I believe I alread read enough posts saying that if the Pentagon denied it, then it must be true. Seems pretty lose lose to me.

The fact is no one has been told whether or not Obama is a cyborg for Omacron Persei 8 either but that is no reason to just believe it if you read it on the web.

That is crazy logic. I wouldnt knw where to begin because as you put it, logistically it would be a nightmare but i'm quite sure its a rediculous sum whatever the figure!

What is crazy logic? Believing this trip is costing more than the war in Afghanistan? Yep, that sure is crazy.

The above link makes it fairly clear that the $200 million dollar mark and the 34 ships are, at best, complete fabrications. Keep in mind that the $200 million dollar remark came from Michelle Bachman, who apparently places her complete trust in a newspaper that sources an anonymous source that doesn't cite his intelligence whatsoever. But of course, don't trust what you're reading. Vet the information for yourselves.

Brace yourself for preposterous disinformation from a certain political party, ladies and gents. It's only going to get worse.

The newspaper she "apparently places her complete trust in" is The Times of India.. not some Indian version of "The Enquirer". If her source was a rag like "India Daily" then I'd agree. However "The Times" is normally accepted as a respectable and trustworthy news source.

They still havn't removed the story btw...

The "unknown source" is claimed to be "a top official of the Maharashtra government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit".

Here's the source TOI article.

Until the Obama Admin. calms everyone down by letting us know officially just this once what the cost really is, I'll go with the info from TOI.

So, to you, this is more credible than the administration and Pentagon saying it's absolutely false. I'm going to go ahead and err on the side of caution and logic and not believe the $200 million dollar a day remark until evidence to the contrary is made public.

A total of thirty combat vessels are currently deployed in the region, including those belonging to Britain and France.

Just my opinion, but with how the media controls every decision made in the world lol, maybe well maybe its not the first time a president brings alot of troops to maybe show a flex of muscles, you know with the american army behing spread all over the world and such, to show that heck we stiill have plenty to take on anybody else who wants a try. Thats just me, but damn that would be a really smart move for the american president, and india aint amercias best friend either.

just my 2 cents

Thank you for setting me straight and you are right, I skimmed through quickly and didn't pick up on all the information before posting.

I'm glad then, nothing out of the ordinary is going on.

Hope everything remains calm.

The whole lot is pointless. The only naval vessels that would be worth taking are aircraft carriers, minesweepers and landing craft. Naval battles and warships are yesterdays deterrent.

As for this Gibbs quote:

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was blunt in his characterization of the cost reports, “this trip doesn’t cost $200 million a day.”

It is a news item now, and you have been asked, MR. GIBBS.

He said, "This trip doesn't cost $200 million a day."
A good follow-up question by a reporter would be "Just how much does it cost?"
The answer could have been a $ figure, or 'I don't know?'

The best bet. Stay awake, be vigilant but not paranoid and stressed out over it. I would go get some basic supplies..food water, any medications you may take that are almost out to last you at least a week.

Its hard to say what will happen if anything. I sent an email to some close people. How they receive it is how they receive it. Its not the first time people have thought I was mentally ill and paranoid and I generally wouldn't send out an email.

I know there was alot of chatter before 911 and many high profiles( John Ashcroft) even took precautionary measures during that time. Even a handful were told not to go to work the day of 911. It wouldn't hurt to be extremely heads up on this....don't get fear stressed over it though. Just be vigilant.

Nothing might happen and that would be good news.

We have been told other things were facts to end up as lies..sometimes tragic.
Being vigilant doesn't hurt anyone as long as it doesn't stress you out and paralyze you.
Remember all the facts surrounding 911? Some very vigilant family members with questions of the ones who died caught some blatant lies and coverups (witholding hiding info) in testimonials from the high profiles that were subpoenad.

What also adds to that is the timing of the voters cleaning house in congress. Not only the timing has me uneasy but the overkill factor of it all. I watched his conference on FOX and how he was reflecting on his ways. The questions that were asked were so blunt and I loved watching him carefully trying not to answer them. Towards the end is when he started to come out and say that he realizes that the American people want a smaller gov't that spends less, etc...

What struck me was his facial expressions while the questions were asked, and how long he took to answer them. He had the face "Sht, I am screwed and all of America sees me for the failure/hypocrite that I am" I did read about this voyage before the election results were announced as well as his conference. Now, with that in mind, I made a mental note to pay attention, wondering if he was going to follow what he said or lie again. Heck, I even thought that maybe, just maybe he'd cut back on his little trip (knowing he'd still go anyway), but to my surprise, he is doing the opposite and taking additional people as well as taking a fleet of warships as well? What? To me, there is a possibility he could very well be saying "Eff it all..." and who knows from then on what will be done...

Is this on top of the 200million a day? What is this costing?

Does he really need to go there? This whole trip is ridiculously expensive, do we even have money for this?!

The fed reserve will just lend him some of the 600b they just printed >

Could you please provide proof of the 34 warships and 200 million per day? Proof that did not come from an anonymous blogger? Thank you in advance.
