Reminds me of Liza Dolittle. Looks like Henry Higgins has his work cut out for him. They're going to have to work on the skin texture, too. She's got a long way to go before she can pass for human!

I find it quite intriguing.. One day when we develop AI - can AI really be considered 'ours' if it were truly AI?

I also find our reaction to such things extremely interesting. On this post alone we have several types of reactions from disbelief, to curiosity and acceptance.
Makes me think of the 'uncanny' - meaning the borderline between two opposing contrasts eg/ dream and reality, life and death, alive and dead.. the more the 'uncanny', the closer it tends to be to our human perception. As it gets closer, we have a harder time separating it from what we know to be natural.
The gothic, for instance, tends to be more monstrous and is therefore easier to separate from reality.

The common reactions to the uncanny are often anxiety or a sense of foreboding. In our generation where science is much more understood and accepted, the reactions are usually more centered around curiosity and some acceptance, which will eventually lead to a generation who will fully embrace what some of us currently consider to be 'the uncanny'..

Just my rambling for the day

Oh, no. Here we go. Just another step.

Do we humans hate ourselves so much that we have to create something like this?

Not sure if someone before me pointed this out but the reason its creepy is because it dwells within the uncanny valley... only robots that don't look all that human can seem cute to us, when it gets close to human, but not quite identical, it rests in the uncanny valley.

Uncanny Valley

I can maybe see WDI (formerly WED Enterprises) jumping all over these, for their theme parks.

To update the Audio-Animatronics that are part of many of their attractions.

I keep on saying we are going to be one gender eventually.

This thread of course, i doubt is not far off, in terms of robots than can simulate a human. I would think they probably are closer than we know.

How it will change society, who knows? But i will still bet my life we will be one gender one day.

Sorry if I'm raining on the parade but it's not the first human looking android by a long shot. 'Actroids' have been around for some years, I've been following the developments in the line pretty much since they were introduced.

An Actroid is a humanoid robot and android with strong visual human-likeness developed by Osaka University and manufactured by Kokoro Company Ltd. (the animatronics division of Sanrio). It was first unveiled at the 2003 International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan. Several different versions of the product have been produced since then.

Just to add, while creepy as they look so human the actroids arn't really that big a deal until they are hooked up to advanced AI.
More disturbing experiments are things like this one, where they have grown Rat brain neurons on a dish which is linked via Bluetooth to a small robot to control it and receive information about the environment from the robot's ultrasonic sensors:

They have also experimented using the rat neurons to fly a flight simulator, which is particularly worrying as you can imagine the technology one day being used to control drones.
So even though Caprica has been cancelled, we may still get to see the conclusion one day anyway - for real.

I would think they already know how the human does love and all those emotions.

As long as none of these emotions are extra dimensional, they should be able to synthesis it.

I would guess they know what love is also, and they ahve worked on it long enough. Reminds me of outer limits of teh 90's with that episode.

At first the man was pissed that they thought he needed a robot, but he understood then that the robot could do all the thinking and emotions of a human.

Not sure its creepy like you guys say, but i think newer generations of humans will accept it easier.

Just think a woman that does not goto the police because you blank her in the pub. You guys must be chuved.

If what I've read and heard is true, i.e. that everything we hear about on a consumer level is already decades out of date compared to what is actually available to the military, it boggles the mind as to what is actually already in existence.

Am I the only one wondering about them being anatomically correct? Might sound creepy and weird but a Sexdriod will sell millions! Wonder how long it will take before someone wants to get married to one????? Why not right??

I am sure it will come up. Go and watch outer limits 90's, and one of the first few eps is about this.

I would say this will be used alot to help loads of people, in many various ways.

Remember someone is far east married a computer game character, plus a woman in india married a snake.

So its bound to happen one day, but who knows what criteria the first batch will have to hold too.

I am sure the companies know that there is a market for any number of varients.

I am not interested in things like you suggest, but i would welcome a computer that could talk,a nd hold a conversation on things i am interested in, like this conspiracy stuff. I am sure there are plenty of lonely people in the world who just have no wish for human companion for what ever reasons. Something like the kit car from knight rider, but in a computer form, i would welcome, but will it come commercial in my life. I think behind the scenes, there must be ai robots already, but when will there be ai computers, but hold verbal conversation?

Yah that would be cool, but come on you know if it was anatomically correct when you bought it, you would, you know try it out a few times, specially if you paid good damn money for it....

just give it time...like everything in this world technology wise..its starts of as for the greater good yet in reality 90% are designed in the name of war and terror and greed
