Point taken. However, they could still video conference as many have stated. Maybe stay in country, focus on americas problems before tryin to fix the world? Not sayin i dont love all of humanity, but how can we ask or tell other people that "this is how it should be done" if we are still tryin to figure stuff out?

If we all look at the spending by type, we see that half of all spending is right here in the US under three primary programs. The budget for this trip came out of national defense - discretionary most likely. Office Personnel Management only gets 1.8% of the spending. If we are looking for government spending to cut, this section is not that big a problem. Necessary functions keeps stability.

We need to look into programs that take at least 10% of spending.

Obama is going to India to secure business relations between India and the US for the next decade. Officially it's being called "A Four-day Presidential Executive Mission".to help deepen America's commercial relations with India. So where do they think in entire India would be a good place to hold one of these event's mmmm Mumbai! Yeah that's a sensible choice! It was only two years ago they had the Mumbai attack so no surprise on the paranoia! And you have to admit the region is a little hostile to the US - China north of India - Pakistan next door then you also have Iran lying on the Indian Ocean. He'll be the 6th president to set foot on India and I think this trip is not only to secure business relations together but to also deepen their alliance. India is also nuclear and one of the fastest developing economies in the world at present. India also builds weapons for the US and Israel - for example the scandal uncovered a while back uncovering the "2,000 Barak Mark VIII missiles India sold to Israel" - love the name by the way ... coincidence "Barak"??....

Obama has visited - China, Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan in Asia; Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, and the Palestinian Territories in the Middle East; and Chad, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa and Ghana in Africa.

I agree with you. Something's odd or uneasy about November - December period.

WE need FEET on the ground in Pakistan! Our stealth and jamming technology can be utilized in conjunction with some solar event as cover. We fly in appropriate forces for the occupation of nuclear facilities. Engineers work as fast as possible to remove fissile material. India helps us keep the skies clear, as well as NATO allies.

Once we finish the demolition of industrial and research facilities we sit back and allow it an epic FAIL. Whatever stray missle they have, will likely be aimed at Israel. If their Patriots, our European Missle Shield, and whatever India got dont stop it, at least we tried. Thinks might be better when the Muslims regain control of the Asian gateway to the Mediterranean. Sounds like a fair trade for global stability.

In return, we jointly administer Kashmir with the Indian defense forces. If I could make a chart for that it'd look pretty interesting. But that would only happen in a video game anyway.

Or does this trip coincide with the recent $2 billion US pledge to Pakistan in military aid. The US and Pakistan relationship is always a fine balance - look like they know they only way to keep an alliance is to pump money into the Pakistan government. Maybe this is a sit down with India and Pakistan behind the scenes?

I have got to agree 100% with that statement hangedman13! It makes ZERO sense to incur such expenses merely for a face to face when secure video conferencing is available.

It makes even less sense to do a face to face at a location that is such a security risk that you practically have to go to defcon 2.

Every time a US President travels, it is a big deal - a previous poster sounded incredulous that this story is true, that the numbers were so elaborate that it might be a hoax - but I don't think so.

I think this is a true story, and yet another publicity gaff by Obama's advisors, and a needless grand spectacle at a time when American unemployment is at record levels.

As for the Navy presence, I totally believe it; the US Navy maintains a routine presence in the Arabian Sea and Mumbai is located on India's west coast - an easy cruise but an expensive diversion of resources.

I have no animosity towards Obama and believe that whole "not a citizen" thing to be a total crock of sh*t. I think he's done as well as he could given the mess he inherited, but if Obama intends to run for a second term, he needs to dump his current band of merry idiots - his advisors.

Almost makes me wonder if this decision wasn't co-engineered by Hillary over at the State department to help give her another shot at the oval office in 2012.

i think you will find that after obama leaves india, he is heading to indonesia. it was reported here in australia a few weeks ago. he was supposed to visit australia and indonesia a few months ago but the trip coincided with the height of the gulf oil spill and it was deemed not a good look for him to visit. the trip was supposed to be rescheduled for later. the w.h announced that time would not permit his visit this time but that he would still visit indonesia. (jeez, if he came all this way we are not that far from indonesia, he could have at least called in for a cuppa).
