Thought I'd try a game thread ... see how disastrously it'd turn out. Got this one straight from Wikipedia.

  • One person begins with a sentence (e.g., One day Little Johnny walked to the local shoe shop).
  • The next person tells of something unfortunate that happens (e.g., Unfortunately, Little Johnny was hit by a refrigerator.).
  • The following person contributes a fortunate event (e.g., Fortunately, the refrigerator was made entirely of marshmallows).
  • The fourth person will contribute an unfortunate event (e.g., Unfortunately, these marshmallows had poisonous spikes on them).
  • The fifth person will contribute a fortunate event (e.g., Fortunately, the spikes also contained the antidote), and the process is repeated.

Leo was a pilot.

Fortunately, Capt Chesley Sullenberger happened to be ones of the passengers on the flight that day...

Note to OP: this will work fine if our posts don't overlap, but here it's difficult to know what's being posted while we're writing. Just sayin'. Nice idea, though.

Fortunately, the Captain didn't die from drunk driving, but rather cancer, 13 and a half years later.

Yeah, happens on the acronym thread occasionally, too.

Unfortunately, Leo's brother didn't like him.

Fortunately, they thought they'd landed up in Hell and then died of relief to realise that they were still on the island, but just a bit charred
