I understand exactly what you are saying with that. I gave that a good amount of thought as well. But in the past the legit UFO sightings have been shown on radar and not just with visual sightings. But the Air Force and Navy no matter what should have scrambled at least a fighter plane to assess the situation.

The military stance is not to engage the craft but only to attempt to make contact with the craft. the only way they would fire on the craft was if it were to attack a ground target or the aircraft. They would follow the same rule of engagement whether it were from earth or not.
