So what are you trying to say there?
Simply because Germany has a smaller Muslim population that there couldn't be a small minority in Germany with a twisted view of Islam and be willing to carry out attacks on Europe or elsewhere?

I make no mistake in discerning that you don't seem to know what you are talking about.

There's no evidence these 8 germans were extreme islamic. They could have been Islamic visiting the area and going to pray. Which is probably much more likely than them training to be Jihadist.

really you just had to go there

and just what are you excatly basing their innocence on prey tell?

did you know them personally? i bet not.....

i find it infuriating on this site and the majority of the postings on this site the people always jump to the guilt of the us military but never once ever EVER acknowledge the evilness that is inherent of the islamic jihadist.....

the islamic jihadist does no wrong now where have i heard that one.

chirstmas shoe bomber and the times square bomber all trained in pakistan and inspire by the radicals imams.

luckily they failed.

and contrary to the popular belief that the us military and the cia puts on a blindfold and pick up dart and just throw it aimlessly to a dartboard with a map or satellite image on it that will get bombed theres alot more to it than that.

sorry to break it to you but it seems to me that the only person here who doesnt know what they are talking about is you.

Well, this can't be good at strengthening relations between the Pakistani Government and US/NATO mission in Afghanistan. It seems in the past few days there have been quite a few flaps in relations over attacks like this one. From the Pakistanis cutting off key supply and logistics routes through their country to support the war effort in Afghanistan, and to militants boldly attacking a supply convoys; it seems this is only going to make matters worse for the military effort in Afghanistan.

These cross boarder incursions with UAV and Special Forces seems to be angering the locals and the government who have been on shaky ground due to the rampant militant and extremist activity taking place in the country. The situation in Pakistan is beginning to look a heck of a lot like Cambodia and Laos in the Vietnam War. When the Viet Cong used to cross the boarder for safe haven from ongoing pressure from the US military in Vietnam. The boarder incursions then led to significant international outrage.

We shall see if a spill over of hostilities into Pakistan is to continue and escalate by this attack on the militant outpost that killed 8 people of alleged German citizenship. My guess is the German government is going remain silent on this, because of the terror threats plaguing Europe. Or they are going to wait and see what the official response by the United States and any other governments involved in this strike are before commenting.

The US is probably going to say that these men were tied to the threats being made against Europe in recent days, and had to be eliminated. All in all, this is going to strain the relationship between the Pakistanis and the US even further and strengthen the insurgency in Pakistan while making new recruits for the Taliban to fight US/NATO forces in Afghanistan. Hopefully, this militant strong hold was worth it, and that it is backed by concrete verifiable intelligence about a legitimate threat. Plus, lets hope it was done with cooperation and approval by the Pakistani Government.

There seems to be more than just a tentative link between these extra-judicial drone strikes and the heightened security levels across Europe. At first blush , one would surmise that they get to this cell before they deployed.

Lets see how this unravels .

So you kill 8 jihadist....how many more will this create? Does anyone think you can stamp out an ideology/religion by killing a few militants? Eventually there will be troops in Pak then what?

If one of my family were killed by a drone, bomb, torture, etc, my revenge would be 10 fold and sweet.

I don't always agree with you Whaa, and I am all for killing terrorists, but this time, I have to agree with you 100%!!!

If these attacks can be spun, even incorrectly, if they can be spun to be against "Muslims" or against the ideology of the region, then for everyone we kill, we create 10 more to fill their spot!

In my opinion, after about the first 2 weeks in Iraq, the "war" was over, and we should have started handing out XBOX's and McDonald's cheeseburgers! They need free internet porn, and Grand Theft Auto. They need fast cheap mystery meat available on every corner. They need Dollar General and Pasteurized Skim Milk with added "solids" to make it taste like whole milk. They need free condoms in their school with grammatically correct live instruction in the classroom! They need rock and roll. They need wet t-shirt contests and alcohol. Who wants to be a suicide bomber when Spring Break is just around the corner?

If we start building a Western lifestyle, and we start showing the benefits of being "tolerant" and we start acting like the "liberators" we were packaged as, then even suicide bombers will quickly blow themselves out of existence. If they blow themselves up, while we supply fun and food and nudity to their sons, then who is going to want to take their places? McDonalds and Internet porn will go so much further than bombs! Who wants 21 virgins in Heaven, when you can have a billion virgins in every conceivable naughty act right here on earth? Who wants to strap a bomb on their back, when you can jump in a Corvette and rundown some hookers on Southbeach in a virtual world and live to enjoy the carnage?

Bin Laden lived that very western lifestyle in Beirut for several years. Party Party Party. Girls, Cars, etc.

That didn't turn out the way your suggesting though did it? Neither did Beirut for that matter.

Sometimes things are a bit more complicated than we wish to think.

It is more likely than not that German intelligence services were heavily involved, I would even say that it is extremely unlikely that they are not involved. The 8 Germans were probably identified and targeted through electronic eavesdropping, the same way that the 2 British citizens were, and German cooperation would be useful to say the least.

Not to mention that the fear generated by this plot multiplied since a German citizen spilled the beans in July, it would not reflect well on them if they refused to cooperate. Obviously we will have to wait for a response (if one is given at all) to be sure.

We don't know where the US got the intelligence on these Germans.

Have german intelligence services been tracking these people and decided they did not want them back in Germany.

Then asked the US to take them out.

the German government likely would have had there cell phone numbers if they were tracking them and if these Germans used the cell phones it would have given there location in Pakistan.

They were known terrorists.....end of story. Nice to see people here automatically assume the worst as usual. Funny, I think Germany might have already said something if it weren't true.............check the link, again, known terrorists.

I don't know if anyone else caught this on WMAL (D.C.'s AM radio station) but last week Fred Grandy (of Gopher fame from "Love Boat" - he does the morning show) well, he had a woman telephone caller (an invited guest, not a random caller) who was saying that she had talked to someone in U.S. Intelligence the night before and he said that there were entire villages (yes, villages) in Pakistan that were inhabited by blonde-haired, blue-eyed people (Germans, I would guess) who were there training for Jihad.

Don't know know who the caller was...I'll go poke around WMAL.com and see if I can find out (it was KT McFarland - a Fox News Security Analyst - but I can't find the interview on the WMAL web-site).

I have a question for all those people on here saying that these Germans were innocent. What holy sites are there in Pakistan? As far as I know there aren't any pilgrimage sites there. But as I've said before these drone attacks are more trouble then they are worth. And since our esteemed president spent some time over in Pakistan in his youth maybe he actually understands the circumstances over there better than we thought.

If you think Bin Laden is a bad guy then you are correct. He still isn't wanted in the US for 9/11, and he was confirmed to be communicating with the CIA immediately before 9/11, and he was certainly the recipient of CIA training and money in Afghanistan. I think you are comparing apples and oranges. Yes, Bin Laden was partying it up on Western money, so were the Hussein sons in Iraq, but the common person is not living that lifestyle like they do in the US.

When the common people get to live the milk and honey lifestyle, then we are making significant progress toward ending the hostility. If it is just the elites and the operatives, then we are making the problem worse, not better.

The majority of your post is both inaccurate, and supposition. It serves only to move the thread away from the topic of the Germans in Pakistan. Its not worthy of debate in this thread.

On-topic, were you guys aware that most websites operated by Central Asian militant groups in AFPAK with known German recruits have been knocked offline over the past 3 weeks? Betcha didn't.

For a primer on their sites and how they use them, see Cheering for Osama: How Jihadists Use Internet Discussion Forums
