OP....whilst the subject of the "supervolcano" that lies in the vicinity of what's called "Yellowstone National Park" in the western part of the
North American continent....specifically, within the nation known as "The United States of America", politically, IS interesting.....this isn't
really anything "new". There have been several documentaries (that I've seen) on television, guessing either NOVA or the National Geographic
Channel. (If memory serves...)
A simple search of ATS threads will uncover THIS one:
www.abovetopsecret.com...
As you can see, that is a long-running ATS thread, perhaps up there as one of the biggest on ATS. A smattering of many others also turn up, just by
using the term "yellowstone" in the ATS Search function (thread titles feature).
But, back to this (potentially) geographical devastation....it seems that the "Chicken Little" syndrome is hard at work, as it seems to apply to so,
so many "imminent threats" that infest the realm of "fear" that is prevalent nowadays. (Actually...."fear" has been used for millenia...it is
nothing new....)
Problem is, MOST people simply fail to understand the huge discrepancies between a person's (human life-span) timeframe, and the
geographical,
or even
cosmic (when speaking of other events, relating to the over-all Universe timeframe) and the ODDS of any particular event occuring,
within such a short, short sliver of time that encompasses a human's lifespan (~80-90 years).
It is correct to imply that
should the "supervolcano" that is believed to lie under that portion of the North American continent were
to erupt, it COULD be very, very influential to the Earth's biosphere. IF it happens as 'predicted'. Or, 'guessed'.
But, since there is NO technology currently available to us to prevent any such occurrence, what point is there is flailing one's arms and worrying
about it? Nevermind that it may STILL not occur for another 10,000+- years...or more?
Further, due to the activity of plate tectonics, the "weak spot" (as I believe it was described in one of the documentaries I've seen) may
evenutally move away from the proximity of the magma underneath, thus resulting in NO eruption, ulitmately.
Of course, on the other hand....WERE the worst to occur, and in recent time....then much of the planet might "rejoice", as the devastation (locally)
will be focused on the USA. Later, though....globally, there will likely be other consequences. But, humans being who they are, won't think ahead
too much, in that instance....not until later. (Guessing Australia might be "safe". Just a guess....)
