After thinking about it some more, I would think the alien vistors would be geek science types, and only want to observe. They wouldn't want to waste their supplies on us. If we clearly have no control over our airspace and we have no capabilities to follow them into space, we have nothing special here except the people, animals, plants and air/ water. If they can zip around the universe I am sure there are other larger vacant Earth like planets.
We will never know their adgenda until we sit and have a discussion with one of them, what is what.

Well, I bet they'd be able to pacify most of ATS users as it seems most of them have bought into this alien conspiracy that seems to be exploding on this site.

However, if they do invade, we can get China and Nigeria to team up and upload a worm virus to their firmware while their downloading porn.

You talking about a species that has technology we just dream of. They arrive in numbers to "invade" Earth.

As others have stated, doesn't matter how many guns you got, they don't shoot into space.

We'll make the assumption the aliens need oxygen for breathing, otherwise, they'd adjust the atmosphere for their usage. This would be a bad day for all mammals on Earth.

We'll make the assumption that their immunity system is comparable to us. If not,we just got exposed to illnesses never seen or experienced. Once again, a bad day for all mammals on Earth. They would be exposed to our illnesses, but they are far more technical than we are. They would be light years ahead in their medical treatments and would have a better chance of winning this battle.

We'll even make the assumption these are aliens that our weapons will affect. A nuke would affect anything, but remember, they can leave; we still have to stay. Let's think for a second if they were artificial intelligence based like a robot. Kind of like alien terminator vs earthling type thing.

These are just a few thoughts of why it would be a bad day for everyone. Talk all the smack talk you want. We've already lost by them showing up with nefarious means.

Really we can just hide under a mountain like what they do in Afghanistan and bunkers in the US and Russia

not if they got stuff that would take all the oxygen from the atmosphere or disperse a powder that would choke all of us to death or make us dissolve..
any number of things

I agree! We need to leave them be. There's enough problems on Earth already. If we start inviting aliens, I feel we are just looking for trouble. Don't think I want any part of it, if possible.

Only 40% of americans own a gun and from that only 5 - 10% are actually trained marksman. Plus the fear of death can quell resistance. Most on this thread make it seem like america is invincible. Back here in Russia we have a little joke. 'How do you make an American cry? By taking away his gun'

If you want a country with HIGH gun ownership you have to look to Switzerland

In some 2001 statistics, it is noted that there are about 420,000 assault rifles stored at private homes, mostly SIG SG 550 types. Additionally, there are some 320,000 assault rifles and military pistols exempted from military service in private possession, all selective-fire weapons having been converted to semi-automatic operation only. In addition, there are several hundred thousand other semi-automatic small arms classified as carbines. The total number of firearms in private homes is estimated minimally at 1.2 million to 3 million.[8]

Thats 1 assault rifle for every seven people.
and 3 million guns in a country with only 4.4million people aged 20-65

Well we also have a rather entertaining joke in America.

How do you get an American to shoot you?

You take his gun away and he shoots you with another.

Oh we also have this one as well:

How do you make a Russian jealous?

It happens when an American walks into a gun store and buys one.

I know that the thread is about if Aliens were to invade Earth, but may I propose the opposite side of the argument?

What if there were some sort of Galactic Council and they have been debating for some time whether or not open contact with Earth is appropriate? Maybe the supposed visitations over the years have been info gathering sessions, similar to what they were doing to that small Asian island tribe that another poster brought up? I mean, how can you expect any sort of advanced civilization to understand us, let alone us understand them when we are openly killing ourselves, fighting over ideas, fighting over land, and fighting over resources?

I mean, when I think about it, why would an advanced civilization need our little blue marble anyway? If they have traveled billions of miles across the universe, wouldn't it make sense that they have already developed a way of renewable energy? Why would they even need our natural resources? I mean, it would be like a group of nuclear physicists going back to ancient Egypt to "steal" their battery technology, made from clay pots. There is absolutely nothing that an advanced race could gain from us, other than tasty meals and/or slave labor.

I hold the belief that if there were an alien race or races that contacted us, it would be about information and technology and not about slave labor or dinner time.

Besides, we're nothing but "tribal people" compared to whatever race is out there that has already conquered space. I urge you to read that article that another poster mentioned about the tribal people on that island. Sounds very similar to what would happen if we were the ones being visited. Kinda puts it into perspective for me.

Oh, and if the Greys decide to come down and screw with us, well, I have a .357 and a nice rusty tire iron to bash their little heads in with.

Peace be with you.

I don't think anywhere on the earth would be 'difficult' to take over, the presence of aliens should be enough to take over anyplace.. It would be like an ant hill fighting back against a can of raid.. fighting back would be stupid and irrational.

Texas for sure. I have lived in the great state for most of my life and have traveled to alot of different places. I can tell you that there is something different about the state. There is an underlying "we can kick your a$$" attitude. They dont just say it they mean it, Texas I think would be a threat to alot a countrys, there are more people walking around with guns waiting for someone to break into there home, car jack them, rob them, anything that might give them a reason to shoot you. Not that its a bad thing, I think its great and if you had an outside force invading......ha good luck better have your death ray and photon torpedos locked and loaded. GET SOME!!!!

pretty sure that if they are capable of crossing galaxies, your guns will be laughable to them, it would be like amazonian tribesmen trying to fight off the full might of the US Millitary using sticks and bows, if they arent here for good reasons, then there will be nothing we can do, however i doubt such an advanced race would want anything we have anyway, so greeting visitors from another planet with guns is going to at best make you look like a silly savage or at worst get you killed/enslaved quicker

Though a bit dated now it's a good read and a not unrealistic scenario

How would Earth defend itself against aliens who could dump the entire asteroid belt on us if they so chose?

Based on the number of alien spaceship that have allegedly crashed in the past few decades, I'm wondering if they're actually behind us in technology? Certainly not so advanced to be a real threat.

Or maybe Earth is really an intergalactic garage and they just come here for repairs when they break down, and occasionally don't quite make it?

well if alien have a "giant computer that can compute the universe or just our solar system", or a "time machine" or at least a time machine for information from their future, and if they are the bad guys , we are #ed.

We need more information , we ( human being in general) are becoming dangerous for themself and for every life in the universe ( and other realities ).

We need information in order to know what to do.

We need verifiable, credible, prooven information.

If which aliens invade earth? Hypothetical aliens?

How easy would it be for a modern army to “pacify” a stone-age tribe or the Roman or British empires in their prime? How easy would it be for us to “pacify” Nazi Germany with modern technology?

How far are you expecting this kind of technology gap to grow when we are faced with a species capable of visiting us? It’s like me incinerating five wasp nests with petrol and you asking me to decide which put up most of a fight. The difference is negligible. It will be a case whether they want to preserve earth and just remove or enslave us or whether they would prefer to eradicate all life.

If it is the former then the answer will depend on how easy it is for them to target us in a particular area, as it’s unlikely that we’re going to have a decent way to combat them. If they are having difficulty finding us in an area then I would deem that area pacified. If they wanted to eradicate all life then I’m pretty sure there’s nothing we can do about it and they will go about their business everywhere with equal ease.

I agree. Why would an alien race with the tecnology to get here and capable of subduing the Earth need us for food or as slaves? And there are plenty more planets with resources which haven't already been exploited by their inhabitants (think Earth 10,000 years ago).

They are 99% likely to be benevolent imo - and probably would observe us and perhaps secretly help us to reach a level whereby contact can be made.

The exception being the aggressive hegemonising swarm - against which nothing in the universe has much hope (think the replicators from Stargate, but billions more of them and totally, utterly, incapable of reasoning with)

Think ECONOMICs, my fellow ATS brothers and sisters.

Who will build those crafts and tech for free, without labour and education?

And where will those monies or whatever system had been imposed, come from?

To travel million of light years just to say " hi? We will hep you ?" You gotta be kidding!!!!

A faithful Christian's heart, a true and faithful Christian will know exactly who they are and where their really from, and will not be able to convince or pacify them.

Okay, now go ahead and bash me.

What about North Korea? they've got enough nukes to blow up half of the world
But on the other hand, i would rather be eaten by a creepy alien than to live in NK..... No.... inside a barn owned by a grumpy farmer in alabama is probably the best

You;re not paying attention to the ops question....

He asked who would be the hardest to pacify, I think we can all agree that the liklihood of overcoming an alien threat powerful enough to get here from another solar system. galaxy and or dimension that is intent on destroying us, would be virtually impossible.
