I can see this being a problem if she was a large breasted woman, however she is not. The dress is a little short but like someone else said that is not her fault, it is wardrobe's. I can also guarantee that my five year old boy would not be thinking, "wow look at the boobs on her." The only reason this is a problem is because people are making a big stink about it. She does not look slutty in the slightest. I have seen things on children's programming that are definitely questionable, but this hardly fits the bill.

there is nothing wrong with the vid ...nice sesame street parody with katy perry
she is beautifull of course .. it was more like a music video parody

the problem:
they showed it officialy on a sesame street program that was aired on TV for all young to see ...
it sould be PG-13 lol

Even if she did have big breasts, so what? They're breasts.

Why are Americans so afraid of every little thing that involves skin? I'm surprised Christine O'Donnell isn't saying anything about this or how kids would masturbate to Perry's outfit.

It never aired on Sesame Street... It got pulled before it had a chance to air - after it had leaked onto Youtube. Or at least that's what I gathered from the article I read.

If anything, children's programming ought to be the one most acceptable venue for fully naked breasts on the airwaves. After all, those kids look head-on at a pair of breasts every time they eat supper!

Really, though, I don't see the big deal here. That outfit is hardly racy in this day and age. Those whacko facial expressions are more disconcerting than anything else.

Would you be more comfortable if she were wearing a burkah?

That's a bit of a myth. The reason that women, on average, tend to be paid less handsomely than their male counterparts is that more women are unreliable employees. They take more time off (from so-called "mental health days" to several months at a time for maternity leave), are less likely to value their careers more than their family lives - which is why they are less willing to put in long, hard hours and, say, travel frequently for business. If an individual woman is willing to do what it takes to succeed, she will be paid what she is worth to a company and if she is competant and consistent she will achieve success. In the United States, we have had female Supreme Court justices, CEOs, secretaries of state, senators, billionaires, serious presidential and vice presidential candidates and more.

If anything, the modern environment may even tip things in favor of a career-driven woman over a similarly focused male. More women receive scholarships and are admitted into colleges and universities than men. Sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits filed by men are frequently dismissed or laughed out of court while those from women are always taken with the utmost seriousness. If you can't reach your goals in today's society, don't blame institutional sexism, blame yourself.

I don't see this as anything other than corporate attempt to appeal to the parents and not directed to the children. Other than that, I've seen more revealing clothing out in public on a daily basis. It's a non-issue for me.

Why would a government-subsidized network need to appeal to anyone out of corporate interests?

And whose parents listen to teen pop music anyway? If they do, they probably don't make enough money to be worth courting!

Average looking? I'd say 'yes' but I'm not completely hideous either. My husband thinks I'm a freakin' Goddess, which really is the only thing that matters honestly. Overweight? Like most, I'd soooo love to lose 5 lbs. I dont think my skins too bad, despite the fact that I've not used sunscreen until recently.

You know, just because you have the capability to be nasty doesn't mean you have to use it. I think you may have a problem with common courtesy and respect for others. That's ok, I can work around that.

@Danna- Dont worry about a 'dislike' button, feel free to block me. It's all good. I won't take it personal.

Nasty posts say more about the 'postee' than anything else.

As for my avatar, why do you keep bringing it up, it has no relevance what so ever. Its no excuse to be rude to a woman who wears that. ...

Um.... If I were to say anything to a woman dressed like the character in your avatar, it would be, "So.... How much?"

I don't support using your body to get what you want, though I am guilty of it. So she's showing a little cleavage, I think nearly every child has seen breasts. They know what they are and it's sad that this is happening but if it isn't tv, its commercials if it isn't commercials, it's billboard ads. That's just life in the west, women are treated as sexual objects and get little respect, or they have to work twice as hard as a man does to get to where he is. Sexism still exists and to quote my psych proff " Every April women get the pay that men had the year previous" (referring to the raising of minimum wage). That's just the way it is.
Well, lets take you avatar for example..
It screams naughty..
That video is an unfortunate example of what many are trying to push onto the young.. It is good they pulled it .Sesame Street shouldn't have allowed it to be created in the first place
I do like that avatar by the way..

It's time women start taking responsibility for their underachievements in the areas that men tend to excel; the excuse of "men's oppression of women" is wearing thin.

Would Katy Perry have been as successful if she were ugly, dressed like a prude and didn't sing about kissing other girls? Probably not. While male artists usually rely on talent and personality, it seems female artists are usually reliant on sex appeal and attractiveness.

It must be pretty insulting for Katie Perry to, instead of being seen as a whole person, be seen as "boobs" masquerading around.

It's be proven kids learn better with attractive teachers btw, or should we replace all good looking teachers with baby boomers? Beauty and aesthetic appeal isn't limited to adults.

A) Your combining my two arguments and not looking at the context of them. The OP did not post a video link, to the video in question so I argued that yes, women are over sexualized in the media, Key word being MEDIA. Women are portrayed in magazines as skinny big breasts, nearly naked and submissive.

No, I am trying to make sense of your response in this thread. Because the OP did not offer you up the video, you went ahead and decided to just have an opinion anyway? You have since revised your opinion to point out it is different in regard to the video but your bigger more off topic point about how women are portrayed stands.

Well, I do not understand why anyone would cry about women being portrayed as sex objects who also has an avatar portraying a woman as a sexual object. I can dress slutty or appear naked if I like and trying to blame anyone but women for how women appear is only a disservice to women in the US in 2010.

If you notice I was responding to a comment that women are asking for it, which is totally un-true. You were the one who started attacking my credibility due to my avatar.

If you notice I was responding to a comment about how poor women are portrayed as if they have no power and no choice made by someone portraying a female form that had no power and no choice.

Which is not very good tactic coming from some one with an avatar that could be misconstrued as well.

Do tell. Please explain how my avatar is as overtly sexual as yours is. I am actually quite interested in hearing that.

I did not need to give my own back story to my avatar but I felt that, that may help you understand my position on the matter.

Yet it did not. I believe I pointed out the first time you tried to tell me about your comic book character that I did not care and it would not matter. Kind of how the actual topic of the thread (the Katy Perry video) did not seem to matter to you.

B) After seeing the video I had a SEPARATE argument, that was aimed directly at the video in question which is that there is nothing wrong with it, she's not really showing off her breasts at all there is nothing big to get worked up over. The OP's statements were vague and since I did not have a video link, I could only base my arguments off the OP.

The topic of the thread is not whatever your "poor women are still enslaved by dirty dirty men" arguement is though. This thread is about the video, isn't it? Why do you insist all of this hypocritical off topic nonsense matters? It is not even relavent to the topic.

Is that clearer for you?

Are the other posters referring to your avatar as a prostitute clear enough for you?

Good grief....You people are insane.....kids will see this & kids will think that, blah blah, blah.Look honestly the only message damn near all any kid would've taken from this show had it aired would have been what letter & what number it was brought to them by today.Pushed a bit they would probably giggle away about elmo running away from katy perry.Thats it!!!!!

Who the hell are you talking about..? The producers..? Tthe mystery men behind the curtains, that only you and a handful of others are able to see in your awakened state..?

Umm the media owners? Ever thought of that.....almost one group owning over 70% of the tv channels, production companies etc.
.....

Oh but we do! She's a real looker and I don't understand how you fail to see that.. You seem to downright hate her. Or is that just your depression talking?

Some people have rather exquisite taste and I consider myself to be one of them. I'm not the kind of guy to degrade myself by running round with a bunch of tramps (Don't care how good they look). My depression seems to have more logic than you..

Sex sells and sesame street is a big f****** business (is that too profane SuperDuperModerators?), that doesn't get it's $'s just from the kids watching it.

I assume you also watch it? You must remember at the end of the day it is a KIDS SHOW regardless of who's watching it. Sex sells on a kids show? I must say i haven't laughed like this in quite some time.....

I don't understand how people fail to see the influence children and teenagers get from music and movies. The older posters may not really have first hand accounts of how large a percentage of the youth and young adults changestheir behavior and thoughts cause of this garbage.

I think if you raise your children proper. They should be able to watch anything they want. See anything they want. Hear anything they want.

If something like this is going to affect peoples children. Well then they do not know how to raise their child. Teach your kid right from wrong. They will know how to tell the difference. My child is 3 years old. Sometimes I slip up and swear in front of her. She knows better then to repeat it. She just tells me "Bad word Dad".

If elmo on a rack affect your kids you should look how you are raising them.

I think Katy Perry should have known better than to wear something like that for a children's show.

She should be scolded and sent to my room!
