The friends feature is being reworked according to SO.

Know idea what It'll be like or if It'll keep all our friends as they are?

It's our feeling that, back when ATS was a more wild and untamed place, the ignore function was an appropriate respite for members. However, we now have a sharp and professional staff who works hard at keeping the streets clean and the lights on. I understand it may cause some friction for those who were accustomed to negating the input of certain members, but please give it time as the ability to consider even the most abrasive contribution -- from its philosophical perspective -- is a critical component of denying ignorance and supporting free-and-open expression.

I have been asking for this for as long as I have been an active member. I can now go to any of my posts and get to the exact spot in the thread and read from that point. Thank you. I fear change and it will take a bit of time to warm up to the big picture, but this one enhancement is paramount in my opinion. Thanks from the bottom of my heart

I am sorry, I don't know where this was exactly posted, otherwise I would respond directly to that post.

The Ignore function is not (at least to me) a moderation tool towards other members, but a personal moderation tool to use for myself when my responses to those particular members would otherwise be less than appropriate. While I agree that the staff of ATS do quite a fine job at adequately moderating the site and creating an environment that facilitates open dialog, and free thought, there are times when particular members have an agenda to get under your skin personally, or their writing style, or mental health (in one particular instance) causes one to instead of replying in a dignified and appropriate manner, want to in a figurative way rip their heads off and scream an endless stream of obscenities down their decapitated and blood gushing throat.

Sometimes for instance, you need a break from a certain member that frequents the same threads you do. The animosity builds up between the two of you and you find that you cannot reason with that person or engage them in civil discourse, in this instance an ignore function would be preferable as you can ignore them in a civilized way, not seeing their posts and thus can discuss the thread topic in a better mindset.

The ignore feature is a useful tool to help some members remain good contributors and post in a civil and respectful manor.

My I suggest some anger-management techniques?

But seriously...

Ignoring opinions you don't like won't make them go away... and maybe, just maybe, you might find within you the ability to respond to such opinions in a way that is both meaningful for ATS, and a learning process for you.

I think it's important, but we'll see how it works out.

Send me a PM with the URLs that are giving you a 404, and on which page you clicked the link that caused it.

Thanks.

Yeah, it does suck when people do that, when people purposely bait, taunt, provoke and aggravate you like that.

But speaking as someone this has happened to hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times, in real life as well as in cyberspace - the absolute best thing you can do is learn to keep your cool and not let them ruffle your feathers. If you let them get to you and you erupt into a killing rage of decapitation - then they win!

I believe there is a systematic effort to harass truthers and activists in this manner, try to get them to make a mistake and end up in jail, but you must not let them. Be the bigger man

This hasn't happened to me before, so I am mentioning it in this thread.
I recently edited a couple of my responses that had some god awful spelling mistakes.
After editing, instead of going back to the thread, I got a screen with two identical "headers" that said the thread title. They also had the page number highlighted that my edited reponse was on, but it listed far more pages then were actually in the thread.
I had to then go back to My ATS then click on the last response to see my edited post....

Just me, or...?

Haven't seen this addressed before, sorry if I missed it. When I am reading a thread and refresh the page to see if there is a new post the page goes way out of whack, the flags and page numbers are gone, the drop down on an avatar no longers works. In order to go back to normal I have to close out the page. It does allow you to reply to a post but that is about it..Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks

Great for those with slower connections or who do not want to see the avatars/backgrounds!

That's a really good idea, but where is it?

That happens to me too. It gets pretty annoying after the 30th time or so ...
make that the second time of the day.
After that it is beyond annoying and into what the hell is going on here?

btw post neighbor, I hope you are feeling better GEL.

Forgot, but there is another thing I have been noticing. At random seeming times a persons avatar is cut off on the left side, but then later it appears normal.

Thanks, didn't think it was my imagination, it doesn't happen eveytime but enough to ask what is going on here, sure it will get resolved eventually, that is the only problem I have had through this great change.

Got it, thanks. I guess that's an all or nothing choice. Now if I can just figure out how to make the "top" button work...

Top doesn't work in Firefox. I guess it works in other browsers, from what I recall. Somewhere in this thread a few days back it was discussed. You can ctrl + home to get to the top but for me, that's a pain as my keyboard is usually far away from me.

I do hope the ignores come back. It was so nice to be able to read the 9/11 forum without all the fools, as I had as many of them on ignore as I could. Some people cannot play nice and that forum is the worst.
