Either Glenn Beck's messianic complex is worsening, or he's just as much of a grifter as Sarah Palin. But dragging MLK into it all is disgusting.

I'm all for celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.'s contributions to society, but comparing him to Glenn Beck is like comparing a Lexus to a Kia.

I believe that's exactly the point being made.

Beck plays some big American hero fighting for the people when history teaches us that he's simply a jester.

OMG, sad, sad individual you are. It's not about the day, it's about the message on that day.

Instead of spewing hate, try to gather some people in a positive way, like Beck or MLK.

It always amazes me when people are scared they turn to tactics like this.

You need to start looking for the good in people, because all I'm seeing is you seeing bad. And that's the real shame here.

Either way, you're sleeping so hopefully you will awaken soon. Good luck with that.

Well he's on record as saying that anyone who believes what he says is an idiot.
I liked Jon Stewart's take on Beck's 8/28 debacle - "I Have A Scheme".

"I will stand two steps below where he [Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.] stood." ~Glenn Beck

Jon Stewart also had a great line on this one that summed up exactly what I was thinking: I kinda thought he'd want to stand two steps above.

Mr. Beck is a shill, and one of the biggest egomaniacs in the American media spectrum.

History will hopefully forget Mr. Beck as a simple footnote, but Dr. King's immortal words will always be connected with the Lincoln Memorial just as much as those of President Lincoln himself.

As a note, while the "I Have A Dream" speech is easily Dr. King's most famous work, I always thought the Letter from Birmingham Jail should be right beside it in the public mind. Here's a link, the words of a truly great man:
Letter from Birmingham Jail

So What has Glenn said that makes you think that he believes he is the messiah? Just one phrase where he claims it

No really just one....

it will be a great event....

All i ever hear him speaking to those who have seemingly lost Faith, or placed our Faith in other gods before the one true God...

All i ever hear him ask is for us to bring our hearts back into alignment with the morals of our religious Faith

Have our hearts been sooooo hardened by sin and unbelief... that we can't hear the call to Faith.....the Call to make that stand in a very Dark and trying time....

Jesus said "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"

All i have ever heard him say is "We are headed for Dark, Dark times people....and that God is our only way out"

Are we believing the delusion? that everything is OK....
Are we turning a blind eye to the corruption, if so we are no better....

All i ever hear him say is WAKE UP America....

All i ever heard is prepare for the Hard times to come...to not "eat, drink and be merry.."....meassges like "Love your neighbor as yourself..."

All he ever gets in return from those that "have eyes but cannot see" and "have ears but cannot hear" is persecution....and ridicule.... his message goes out to those of FAITH.... WAKE UP......and DO WHAT IS RIGHT....

Glenn is not the messiah...never claimed to be....those are words from his persecutors

If your heart is hardened ...and you can't hear the message Glen is proclaiming ...for it is the same message....Jesus and the apostles taught...

then first perhaps we need we need to examine our convictions before we condemn and ridicule and persecute others...

Yes, Glenn Beck. The epitome of positivity and tolerance. Not a spewer of hate.

Saying that God is speaking through you sounds quite messianic.

Beck explains "the plan that [God] would have me articulate, I think, to you"
mediamatters.org...

Glenn Beck has repeatedly attributed the sunny 80+ degree weather forecast for his 8-28 rally in Washington, D.C., to God. Today, he even called it a "miracle," saying that Washington is usually a "swamp" in August. Beck also said "thank you" while casting his gaze upward.
mediamatters.org...

And as for the "greatness" of the event:

"American miracle": Beck's outrageous predictions for his "historic" 8-28 rally
mediamatters.org...

"You will see something on Saturday that has not happened in America for 228 years."

On the June 10 edition of his radio show, Beck again claimed that his rally will be "a turning point in America." He also stated that the event is "going to be one for the history books" and could, in fact, be "double history" because it "may be the last time anybody's going to be allowed to gather at the Lincoln Memorial."

Beck: "I really, truly believe" that 8-28 "will be remembered in American history as the turning point."

come on media matters you can do better than that... if everyone that said "God wants this, or God is doing that...." or "I think god wants me to say ...."
should be considered messiah complex....there would be too many out there to count...

Did he say those things, or not? Did he call the president a racist and say that he has a "deep seated hatred for white people?"

Yeah, I know about the eugenics quote. I also know he has Nazi Tourette's.

www.thedailyshow.com...

I don't think MLK compared segregationists to Nazis at every turn, yet Mr. Beck has no trouble spewing invective and demagoguery at anything and everything. To pretend otherwise is laughable.

You're the one coming into a thread about Glenn Beck co-opting the anniversary of MLK's most famous speech. Perhaps you should show us some examples of Glenn acting like a dignified statesman, and prove us wrong.

Good luck with that.

Yes, there are a lot of delusional people out there. But there aren't a lot of them with a devoted following.

You wanted a phrase, and you got several. But NOW you want to move the goalposts because you don't like the source. You know that they have clips to verify what he said, right?

And I notice that you have no rebuttal for his claim that the event would be "great." You doubted he had claimed that, and you have been shown to be wrong.

"Glenn Beck" just HAS to be someone's persona, the greatest of all time, because stuff like this just can't happen in the real world without a full staff of comedic writers!

Interesting though that Alveda King, MLK Jr's neice, is a Beck supporter and friend and will also be at the gathering tomorrow speaking.

Not that I'm saying anything pro or con about Glenn Beck - I'm just pointing out that interesting little fact.

edited for spelling

Also - again not pro or con, how does Glenn Beck giving thanks to God for the unusually nice weather predicted for tomorrow or him saying that tomorrow will be a "great" event equate to him thinking that he's the Messiah?

edited for poorly worded sentence.

if you watched him...instead of taking everyone else slant.... then you not need me to give you examples....

Can you prove the president isn't a racist...

and the eugenics programs were widely sought after by more than the Nazis....the nazis are just the most notoriously evil group....the eugenics people are still out there...
