imagine a instant Hitler offering debate talks to a President...
that simply dont make any sens
i just hope he will say yes .. we will see now if he his strong without his telecomunication fleet arsenal

Err, Hitler did open up peace talks with the then British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, who returned to the UK proclaiming "Peace in our time". Hitler then just thought screw it and invaded Poland anyway.

As for this challenge, it is a very clever political move by Ahmedinejad. He knows Obama will never agree to such a thing, but by refusing, he makes himself look weak and Ahmedinejad took stronger, especially in the eyes of the Iranian people. For him, it's a win/win situation. Ahmedinejad has no intentions of clearing up the World's problems. This is all just more propaganda.

It's a different culture whose system has evolved over many centuries, no, millenia. And you blame this one man for the system in which he finds himself. What have you done to make positive change in the system where you live? Can anything you've done compare to anything he has done?

That does not excuse a backwards society.

Change the system? Why would I want to be like him? A sketchy past, a rigged election, someone pushing for nuclear power.. and you'd be a fool to think it's for "clean energy," and his blind hatred for Israel.. why in the world would I aspire to be like him?

From an Iranian citizen:

answers.yahoo.com...

Prior to taking office, he is suspected of being involved in assassinations, and a cruel interrogator. He has done nothing to turn around the backwards state of their country, but has in fact reinforced many of their older and more nasty backwards beliefs. He is a world leader.. so? I'd never have a desire to lead the life he has lead, and I have more respect for the old senior citizen living in a nursing home, that has led a simple life of sacrifice and good intentions, than this nuclear-crazed fanatic. Honestly.. you are backing a guy who STRONGLY desires nukes, who has clearly stated he wants countries like Israel wiped off the map?

You don't have to idolize someone because they are in a position of power.

I have a lot of respect for the citizens of Iran. I take each person at their own value, I don't judge a country and it's people solely by the actions of their government of their leaders. I have no respect for their "President" however.

I have NO doubt that he is more glibly skilled in international policies than Obama. It's obviously why he is challenging him. If McCain was in office, I don't feel he'd make the same challenges as he did to Bush and Obama. But I still have no respect for Ahmadinejab. His actions to the public after the 2009 sham of an election is reason enough to hate the guy.

interesting words there.

"Hello I am a man on fire, please do not kill me as a friend"

a poor transaltion i am sure.....

not sure of what the cultural signifigance is ...would you care to explain.
I have been teaching myself Arabic and Mandarin for awhile.
as i feel they will be two necessary languages.

it that a saying that has a special meaning?

by saying he is on fire, he probably means he is a lier, hence the pants would have set him on fire, and he begs that we dont kill him because he fears consequences for these lies he spreads, he claims to be a friend, either because of his lieing or perhaps he is being forced to lie,

thats my analysis.

Havent read all of the replies yet, so pardon if this has been said.

If Obama refuses to debate him, they should pull his Nobel Peace Prize. Here he is, standing face to face with a chance to do something good in this world to promote a peaceful resolution in the face of any pending military action.

If Obama refuses to debate him, he should be impeached. How many times did he say in his campaign that he would do this very thing? How many times did he speak of peace and a turn from war? Here he has a chance to be that man that was voted for, that man that said "Yes We Can" to peace and prosperity and an end to the conflicts we have ongoing in the Middle East.

Even if Ahmadinejad has done this as a ruse to speak out against US/UN/Israel and the sanctions and santimoneous behaviours, it should still be allowed to go forward.

Answer yes, or just be another Bush tyrant, a warmonger, a profiteer, a puppet.

I'm not sure who's translation is correct, mine or yours, or if we are studying it from a different perspective.

i lived and worked with the Barhainian military firefighters for about nine months during one deployment. Firefighters have similarities across the cultural gaps, as i imagine most professions do, also.

roughly translated as i was taught:
radjule = man
itfaa' = fire & act of extinguishing a fire also.

so, no. not a man on fire, rather it was taught to me that it means "fireman".

my words were meant to mean:
"Hello, i am a fireman. please do not kill me, my friend"

I spelled it out phoenetically as best as i could with english &
i used this link to translate those words into arabic:
www.microsofttranslator.com...
(which may be off topic since i believe most of iran speaks persian dialects)

Is my translation wrong? maybe slightly. is yours wrong? maybe, slightly.

but, i'm glad to see someone else on ATS with a hunger to learn new words and new languages also.

mandarin, how difficult is it to learn from your perspective? I've heard some people have difficulty with it.

thanks for who you are and what you do,
et

Regarding Nukes:

That will never happen because Barak Obama would not be able to effectively and logically communicate why Iran shouldn't have nuclear power. You can't charge someone with a crime until it has been committed and proved beyond a reasonable doubt. ( thats if you want to employ democracy rules). Aren't we about democracy and freedom?

I don't care if they verbally or even written what they will do or not do. The criminal act has not been committed

What is the difference between Pakistan, China, and Russia having nukes oppsed to Iran having them?

Even N Korea detonated a higher yield (nuke) in 2009 from 2003.

No one has ever used a nuke on another country except us. So whats the problem?

Ben81, interesting to see you are in Canada. Seeing as you spend so much time expressing your hatred of both the US regime and the Israeli regime, are you an American in exile or frankly someone with a load of hate looking for somewhere a little further from home to vent it at?

This is a startin the right direction. You called them regimes

Regime
The term is also used to distinguish what is actually being enforced from what is considered legitimate. Enforcement of an unconstitutional statute would be a regime but not a law.

State and statute: In general where people are made to statute and salute the government on a daily basis or live under the government's guidelines where idealism took dictative roles is a regime. In a regime, over time, ideological warfares dogmatize thought, replace politics with its own interests, and carries a large presence of hardliners in top positions. The dogmatism of the ideology outwhelmes all other interests.

"Solving the worlds problems". They could start in Iran. Homosexuals are hung in the public square and women don't have the same rights as men. Hikers are imprisoned on false 'spy' charges and speaking publically against the government is punishable by death. The holocaust is denied and speeches are given by Ahmadinejad calling for the destruction of America and for Israel to be wiped off the map. Have Ahmadinejad clean up his own country first and then perhaps he can be taken seriously.

Yeah it's certainly better for his domestic politics to avoid the whole situation & try to keep painting Iran as a nation led by quacks. . . that would be playing it safe. This response is also totally irrational.

From a rational point of view though it's best to just have the debate, get all the ideas on the table and let everyone decide who's in the right. If what the U.S. contends is true then that will be reflected in the debate and they have nothing to fear by doing this (and potentially a lot to gain), the same is true for Iran.

Whichever side backs down is basically admitting they cannot defend their point of view. The kind of political spin that will be put out to avoid this is so 15-year-olds-trying-to-win-arguments it gives me a hard on.

There's no problem with it. It's not negotiating with enemies. It's debating policies. And if Iran's policies are that #ed, it shouldn't be difficult for an American president to present American policies and prove to the American people that Iran truly is flawed. I'd rather see Obama replaced with someone (Obama's choice) who can actually debate and wouldn't look like a fool.

I'm tired of the media dictating the mindset people have about every single topic. Media has labeled Ahmadinejad as a demented lunatic, bent on building nuclear bombs to destroy everyplace on Earth. For once I would like to see something that's not staged or pre-determined or presented in a heavily biased way. Watching 2 heads of state debate, un-edited, is one of the few ways this will ever happen.

It's all about truth.

Yeah, it's a brilliant move on Ahmadinejad's/Iran's part.

U.S. labels them as terrorists & extremists while waging simultaneous wars on either side of Iran. Iran retorts with "Wanna talk about it?". All the sudden U.S. is very confused.

...... I think that really says it all. You've quoted an unbalanced comment that does not reflect the views of all members and base your views on that.
You've expressed your hatred for the American and Israeli governments even though you can no more claim to be represented by them than as someone in the UK I can.

Now apologies, the above should have said "does not reflect the views of all members of that religion...." You can cherry pick similar real or apocryphal quotes for any religion, government or other group in any society that you wish to spread propaganda.
