The new photo is the same as the portion of the old photo directly to to the left of the new photo.

So why not show the entire picture in color?

I say solid marketing strategy - And seeing as you've heard of this 'feature', I'd say the marketing has been successful as well.

It was all over the internet and news. It's not a secret. Anyone who works in design probably uses it.

According to this video (at the end of the video) the objects on the surface of Mars synchronise with/reflect the layout of the pleiades star group.

I thought this was pretty funny about what the article off the website stated "This is the closest ever image of the famous outcrop which should, once and for all, scotch the conspiracy theorists who believe that the 'face' is conclusive evidence of intelligent life on Mars.

It just adds more the the whole conspiracy of it....

Its a shame I'm not a mathematician and I would never understand what that essay is all about. I agree, Hoagland is hokey and no doubt he refused a debate, but without being able to decipher the math involved and showing the work myself, I will never know if there were flaws in it. Can you? You know...I'm just not sure anymore. Reading the bad astronomy version of it, puts it in a perspective I can follow. Way too many possible angles and numbers to crunch, resulting in picking and choosing which connections look good.

I would have to go back and watch what hoagland has to say in his original hypothesis again.

What does High Dynamic Range Imaging have to do with accepting any image as empirical data? The point of the sum total of all my postings within this thread was simply stating zero conclusions may be made from any image. Is the supposed face at Cydonia an artifact from some civilization? We simply don't have enough data to prove, nor disprove that thesis.

Wikipedia's definition of drawing a scientific conclusion: "To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning."

While any given image - developed via HDR or not - is certainly observable, it is no way empirical. Simply visit the ATS Alien forum to see how easy manipulation of images is... Should NASA wish to present images that had been doctored, you can bet their debunking would be a great deal more difficult.

Other than that, what exactly was your point of inquiring about any knowledge of HDR?

the image is zoomed in so far there's no way to verify this is the mountain in question.

the picture is cut off. I can see what sort of looks like the lips, and the shadow is right, but most of the image is missing. if you have a picture that's zoomed out a little more that would help.

There is trust required to believe that these pictures are showing what NASA says they are. If you have trust, you believe it. If you dont, you dont.

So how will these new pictures change anything? Either you believed the NASA story before the images, and you will still believe it. Or you didnt, and you still wont believe it.

Seems like someone wants to fuel this meaningless debate all over again. Its meaningless because the pictures are irrelevant. Only your belief of NASA is relevant.

Yep, its the classic pyramid of authority where nobody on a lower level can verify for themselves, and where the people on lower level are expected to provide evidence for their claims (but NASA doesnt). Thats why this scheme works so well for NASA and others high up in society who wants to get away with their lies.
