The video from Vancouver was AMAZING!

I must say, this actually freaks me out a bit. Logically, it makes sense that since more people are looking, there would be more UFO's. But big fleets like that... seriously, people see those regardless of whether there are fireworks in the sky or not. Who knows... maybe tomorrow we will wake up and the aliens will be shaking hands with Obama... lol!!

But this is seriously intriguing me. The sheer amount seems incredible. Does anyone know if this happened last 4th of July? To this extent?

Judging by the YT videos there are many reports just like this on the fourth of July every year. But, I don't think it's ever been this widespread. With many ATS members viewing the objects as well, this makes me think it is at least more prevalent this year than last year.

Yeah you see lantern's and others see UFO's. One thing is for certain, you can not prove they are lantern's which by default makes them UFO's, regardless of their origin.

Apparently they fly the same lanterns all over the world. Here is one from Italy last night.

Two more sightings reported to MUFON just minutes ago.

It gets weirder by the minute. These lanterns are having a great effect on people. A new report just in.

2010-07-05 2010-07-05 Orange ball shining light on homes then pulsed and disappeared TX, US

I was outside getting some fresh air and taking my dogs outside when I happened to look up and saw what could be described as an orange orb that has a small light (transparent) shining on the tops of homes. It almost looked like a helicopter that looks for criminals, but the orb was glowing bright orange. It then pulsed a few times, and as I stood there, it blinked out of sight. I have not drank in 9 years and no drugs, so I know what I saw. I also noticed that what felt like a few minutes was actually 38. I am still very shaken, I have never believed in UFOs or other beings, but my body feels strange and no idea what to do next. Can someone help?

I read through all of the 'sightings', and they are all similar.

Many things come to mind. First of all, I am unfamiliar with Chinese lanterns, their usage, what they look like, and most importantly, their historical prevalence on July 4th.

Many accounts seem to indicate straight line travel. If lanterns, I'm thinking wind. Some vanish straight up (lack of wind), some travel straight then turn and continue straight (again wind); none seemed to describe abrupt turns, unless I'm missing something by trying to mildly debunk.

If these were described as not being lanterns by the accounts given, someone please remind me of this. Basically, the lantern explanation was formed a bit after having read the accounts. I would guess that height and distance are not easy to gauge for most persons. If, as on guy said, it was traveling at 150 mph, it may have been much nearer than he thought and only traveling along the wind. No one gave accounting for the wind in their descriptions....

I'm not familiar with ufo lore sufficiently to qualify as skeptic, so I am not equipped to 'de-bunk', and am not trying to...just seems odd that all the ufo's are the exact same description except for one guy who says no lights, then says an identical pair followed and he could see lights...I dunno, on the other hand, July 4th does seem like a good opportunity to break out a bunch of stealth tech for a display that sort of ends shortly after the fireworks festivities, or to show yourselves if you're aliens that fly craft that look like lanterns?

It's not just happening in the US, which could be credited to the 4th of July. I found one on Youtube from Malaysia. ?

......
i think i saw this tonight.
I was sitting outside at a campfire with my parents and some friends. I was looking at the sky (it was beautiful with no clouds in western NY) and using Google sky map app on my phone to learn constellations. I saw a red/white light traveling very high and REALLY fast from roughly NE to SW. I say really fast because we are near airport, and we often see planes flying high or coming in from different angles and speeds, and this was moving faster than anything Ive ever seen. It went about 2/5s of my visible night sky in about 4-5 seconds (whereas a plane flying that high would probably take over 15-18 seconds as I have personally witnessed countless times). Just as I was about to say to everyone "hey, look at that!", it just blinked out and disappeared.

Ive never looked for UFOs, never seen a UFO, never cared about them really. Then I came on here and see all these reports, and Im actually relieved that someone else saw it. I would never report what I saw to anyone official, because it only lasted a couple seconds and was ambiguous, but it is nice to see Im not alone.

They sound very much like chinese lanterns to me, I see one at least once every 2 weeks where I am, like a ball of flame that follows the direction of the wind.

I can't believe how many people have never seen Sky Lanterns before. That's all these are.

Really ATS, I'm shocked.

All you Chinese lantern doubters should try a personal experiment. Go out and buy one and release it and observe its behavior. Film it too. That way you will instantly recognise them when the next Youtube video gets posted. Maybe the one you release will be filmed by someone else and posted on Youtube as a UFO!

They are now so common in the UK that there are calls to ban them. They don't stay in the air forever and can land anywhere. They're potentially dangerous as a fire hazard or towards grazing livestock as they have a wire frame. Not to mention the litter nuisance. I've seen them trapped on peoples tv aerials and in the branches of trees in my immediate neighbourhood.

The last video on your post with the objects flying in formation seems like a hoax. Probably because the guy videotaping it doesn't sound genuine and he says the objects "are gonna disappear." How does he know that?

LOL!! Star for you, Goathief! That's too funny....

My daughter saw an orb like that descending in the sky tonight here in California and then it was a little freaky when I logged on to ATS and saw this thread. But something about the sightings were bugging me because of the size and shape of these orbs. They seemed so small. And besides, what purpose would aliens have for flying all erratic in one general vicinity? The whole thing just wasn't adding up.

Thanks for posting those vids!

This seems to be pretty exciting to me. It could be people just out to make some chatter on YT by making these videos and then uploading them to YT almost immediately/simultaneously. The chatter between YT comments of the videos seems strange as well. Strange as in a group of users conspiracy. Or, possibly strange as in they are genuine comments by average people.

The Vancouver video seems to show perfect geometry in the light formations, which is also puzzling. (They look like Aurora crafts)

I'm getting a kind of spooky feeling from this. I have no evidence that they are real UFOs. I also have no evidence that they aren't.

I'm not going to derail the thread with a long story, but I had a really wierd July 11th dream last night..... (maybe ill start a thread soon)

I agree.

Lets see...Sunday night - 4th July - USA.

Fireworks and Chinese Lanterns.

Its not hard to figure out, is it?

Many of these seem fake from the style in which they are written, and, of course, they are most likely fireworks, but, for once, I'll suspend my immediate disbelief. What purpose could ETs have to come here on July 4th in particular? How could they know that it was a human celebration in a large part of the world?

[The second one also seemed like a plane until it got closer and then it just vanished.

We have been seeing bright white lights and when I mean we I mean myself, my wife and daughters and my neighbors and even an ambulance crew one night as we walked our dog. Below is an copy and pasted from my log 6/09/2009.

...so intent on enjoying the open mouthed look on my wife’s face, the frowning looks on the faces of the ambulance men’s faces that I missed the part in the sighting when the bluish white light winked out and became a pinprick of light.

'It's a triangle,' my wife breathed in amazement, her eyes going wide. I looked as the light had gone out but focusing on the spot I realised that the light had not gone out, it had just turned into a very faint pinprick that was almost impossible to spot. Had I not been looking straight at it I probably would not have spotted it against the backdrop of stars even though it was moving ever so slightly.

We both continued to gaze at this now very dim light that had turned now into a pinprick against the dark sky and suddenly like something from a film, the light picked up speed, disappearing completely before it reached the castle, as if winking out of existence.

Starred and flagged - something this way comes, I suspected at first but now I am certain
