The rising signs are said to change on a minutely or hourly basis, and in astrology I was taught they represented a person's history or "backstory", whereas the sun sign influences a person's thought patterns. For instance, while I was initially told my sun sign was cancer, my rising sign was designated as "Scorpio". I've heard conflicting explanations on how to calculate it exactly, but it changes throughout the day. Some say it changes every twelve minutes, some say you can tell what it is within the space of a couple hours during the day. If the old method is invalid, for instance, the right way to calculate it might have something to do with sidereal time. That's a speculation, but studies have proven people are four hundred times more psychic when their part of the world is facing the dark rift.

I've always understood the rising sign to be the sign that is coming over the horizon at the time of birth. In tropical astrology, of course, it's not really the constellation that's coming over the horizon but the sign assigned to a given 30 degree arc of the ecliptic. In figuring signs the way you've been doing it with Stellarium, I think the equivalent would be to see what constellation is right at the horizon facing east at the time of birth. The thing about this is that you really need both the time and the place of birth to be accurate.

The southernmost constellation of the Zodiac – Scorpius the Scorpion – lurks low in the evening sky tonight. You can recognize it easily because the moon is moving through this part of the sky. You’ll find tonight’s moon near Antares, the star that represents the Scorpion’s Heart. From the perspective of mid-northern latitudes, the Scorpion comes up in the southeast in evening twilight now and skitters near the southern horizon during the evening hours, its fishhook-shaped tail scraping along the ground.
Right now Jupiter is in the eastern sky in late evening, rising around midnight. It’s rather high in your southern sky by daybreak. For the next several months Jupiter will appear to drift slowly westward among the faint stars of Pisces, the Fishes. Because of their true motions, Jupiter and the other outer planets normally drift slowly eastward against the background of the stars. However, during this time (which ends on November 19), Jupiter appears slightly farther to the west each night. You can’t tell this from night to night with just your eyes, but if you note Jupiter’s position relative to some nearby stars, you should be able to notice it over a period of a few weeks. On the up side, Jupiter is very easy to identify – just face east and look for he brightest object in the sky. On the down side, the King of the Planets is now passing through Pisces, which is one of the faintest of the major constellations. There are no bright stars near Jupiter. This makes it a little difficult to judge its motion.
Look for Ophiuchus above the bright ruddy star Antares, the brightest in the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. Ophiuchus’ brightest star – called Rasalhague – highlights the head of Ophiuchus and is nowhere as bright as Antares, the star that depicts the Scorpion’s beating heart. Ophiuchus will continue to be visible in the southwest sky (above Antares) on August and September evenings.
On sky maps, Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearer is depicted as holding Serpens the Serpent, which is considered a separate constellation. According to ancient Greek star lore, Ophiuchus is Asclepius, the physician who concocted a healing potion from the Serpent’s venom, mixing it with the Gorgon’s blood and an unknown herb. This potion gave humans access to immortality, until the god of the underworld appealed to Zeus to reconsider the ramifications of the death of death.

Hello there!
Sun in Sagittarius on your birth, sitting behind the head of Sag. Mercury in Sagittarius above the head of Sag.
Before the Sun rises, Libra comes early in the East bringing Uranus in the middle of the scales. Ophiuchus (the additional sign to the zodiac that astrology ignores as being in the wheel, the path of the Sun) bringing Neptune on right knee.
Venus in Capricorn (your past/old sign, this is the sign that astrology would give you and it being your past sign, it may still resonate with you).
Moon, Jupiter (king planet), and Mars all in Leo, all under the Lion.
Saturn in Virgo above her left shoulder.
Pluto on cusp of Virgo and Bootes (a sign that sits outside the wheel).
Right now for true observations, mars can be found in the night sky in Leo, to the west...and Saturn can be found in Virgo, not far from Mars. Face the west after Sun has set and stars can be seen....your facing Mars where it was on your birth and facing Saturn where it was on your birth.

When you did my birthday, I came up as a Saggitarius. Which is spot on when I read it btw! I never really saw the similarities in Capricorn (which was my supposed sign) with me, so I'm happy! Anyhow, you know where it says such and such planet is in Sag. etc etc? Well, I think (if I remember correctly) all my planets were in Saggitarius. Is that odd? And do you know what it means to have them all like that, if anything? Thank you for your time in advance whether you have the answers or not. All your efforts are very much appreciated
