Yes there are over a million people with HIV, maybe one in three hundred in the US.

So as a nurse, or an ambulance officer, you might treat maybe fifty or more different people a day, with blood, vomit, and saliva, splashed over you every single day.

The odds are not trivial, I would call that HIGH RISK.
You need to have worked in the health care industry yourself to truly understand the problem.
The work is aesthetically unpleasant enough, without the risk of catching something that can kill you.

One question...

If people with AIDS are banned from traveling into the USA - is it enforced via the honor system?

What I'm asking is HOW do the border guards know who had HIV and who does not???

So, following that thought, it seems to me what's happening in a round about way is the Obama administration is looking for a way to marry medical records with passports. (If it's not already done)...

Just my take...

EDIT: Cant' get color to work... Grrrr....

Well you can eliminate spit and vomit...they will not pass HIV. So you are suggesting there is millions with HIV just waiting to come here to raise the risk factor to something we can maybe see.

I dont get it. This has to be the art of a good disinformation agent. Do we have some sort of database somewhere that claims to have a listing of every HIV positive person? Even if we did, its numbers would be astronomically off. Are they're really hordes of AIDS infected Mexicans and Canadians waiting at the border, and now they are free to come in and infect us good, wholesome Americans?

The op of this thread acts as if there are no Americans living with AIDS, and we're all going to be infected by those dirty immigrants.

AIDS has been in America for a long time, and its here to stay. A HIV positive person is still a PERSON, and they have a right to legally move to our country to try and make a better life for themselves.

There is no screening of people that visit Australia on a three month visitors permit, nor should there be.
The screening is only for people that wish to move here to live permanently.

I guess there is a big difference in risk factor between someone being here for a few days or weeks, and living here for many decades.

Never said they did. But you can still get herpes, or hepatitis, neither of which are particularly pleasant or curable.

Ok should we add those to the list too?

You can be pretty sure that ANY highly infectious and incurable social disease detected during an immigration health check will see you moved right off the list.

As will having a very bad credit record, being a declared bankrupt, or having criminal convictions, having drug residue detected in your blood or urine, or getting the thumbs down from an intelligence agency.

There are plenty of young respectable squeaky clean family groups that wish to immigrate. And they go to the top of the list.

There is nothing wrong with that. just because you fear catching a disease that is very preventable. just don't needle share, or anything else for that matter. Its not that big a deal, and frankly I'm sick of people stereotyping.

Another thing.....there are even babies infected with aids, now maybe the argument can slow down a bit.

I dont like the bill because yes, people who are dying with aids really could go on a spree and infect a whole bunch more....think about it---One person with aids has sex with a new partner say, five in a weeks time...Now you have total of six people infected, now what if each of those people went on a one night stand spree, then guesswhat you have? TOO MANY!

All I have to say is judging by craigslist, etc, so many, no, too many people are literally rutting. It seems that those intimate times are no longer special...People play, get even, set people up, use it to barter, and they get offended when others see their behavior as cheap, immoral and doggish. There is no longer any respect for sex these days. Heck on craiglist, there are more pictures of genitals than the people attached to them. What does that tell you? People have gotten out of control, and AIDS along with other diseases should very well be taken seriously. As I said, there are babies even being BORN with diseases. There should not be any further argument. Whether there are good treatments or not, no one should risk getting AIDS just to have some quick "fun".
It is not fun, if your life, someone elses life or a newborns life is or can be at risk.

You are wrong. The OP is not talking about the HIV immigrants infecting wholesome Americans.
The point being made is that these people WILL be coming here to be treated for free, which will be putting an extra, monstrously large load on the already weakened shoulders of the average American.
Hospitals are already closing up shop all across the country, due to the load placed on them by illegals.
This will be a mortal wound to the pockets of the average person.

The problems must be solved in the countries that these people are fleeing.
That is the only sane answer.

Wow, people who work with sick people might get sick from the sick people they work with. The purpose of their careers. Being, care givers.

What a #ing surprise!

What's next, are you going to suggest that someone who fights in the military as a soldier has the capability of being shot?

These revelations are mind blowing people!

Because clearly every single immigrant that comes into this country is a dirt poor peasant with no money.

This is why they are able to come in legally. Because we all know that America lets in people at a 3 cent deposit charge. It doesn't take tens of thousands of dollars for them to come in at all.

....

You know what, I'll just drop the sarcasm. Are you serious? Are you aware how much it costs to come to this country legally? Are you aware that this ban lift only affects the legal immigrants? Are you aware of how STUPID what you just said was considering the facts of the case?

The ignorance in this discussion is amazing! Who said ignorance was in a decline?

Everyone has their own little hell in their life. All of you not wishing to let HIV+ persons in America need to access your own situations that you haven't told anyone about.

And drop the "they'll seek free care" bit. Because what "free" care does even American citizens who are + receive? Going to the emergency room because you have HIV will not get you any treatment. Unless you report there in a stretcher with pneumonia about to die. They'll treat the pneumonia and send you home.

You , and the vast majority of people infected with HIV are responsible.

Please clarify what I'm responsible for. When I got this thing it was called GRIDS. Thats how long I've had it. Never knew nothing about it prior to catching it. I'm sorry, what am I responsible for? Your post made no sense to me.

lol idk what nursing school you're going in but you need to research your statistics better.

just doing a quick search i found numbers from 2005 and im sure that in 5 years the hiv rate among heterosexuals didn't jump to 99%

in the usa in 2005, over 50% of new hiv cases were homosexuals. up to one in five gay men living in cities is thought to be HIV positive. Yet two large population surveys showed that most gay men had similar numbers of unprotected sexual partners per year as straight men and women.

if you have adobe, read this: www.cdc.gov...

CDC publishes a monthly brochure call "Morbidity and Mortality " it has adjectives the numbers you need. Most hospitals achieve a copy in their library so you can get more accurate statistics and research

i dont see what you're so worried about? i'm assuming that with the ban it's going to be a majority of immigration from mexico that you might be worried about and as of 2007, the hiv prevalence rate in their country was only 0.3%

actually 75% of people in the USA who have HIV are men because. I am NOT saying it's a gay disease but the odds of two gay men having sex and transmitting HIV is greater than a man and woman.

Can I ask what's wrong with that? You can't get AIDS from an immigrant's breath. If it were a more communicable disease then I'd be worried.

Nope, sure cant. But you can sleep with an immigrant and not know they have it, and they certainly don't have to say they have it.

Just seems stupid to have such a deadly, stealthy disease being permitted into the country for the sake of "appeasing gays".

Way to support your own stereotypes homosexuals, I'm sure it'll really help your image.
