Seen this site? I've heard it's pretty good.

Global Firepower

Iran ranks 18th in the world. Click on it to see some information about their military. I'm not sure how current it is, but it's interesting to look at.

It's Iraq all over again.

The world seems to suffer from mass-amnesia. I am completely dumbfounded.

Thumbs up for some awesome responses from many responders to this thread, especially Lucidity. Thumbs down to the purveyors of "bomb induced hard-ons" LOL.

A build up of US military materiel may be for a different reason. There's some ongoing tensions between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in the region, perhaps the US is intending to help out its host?

Since May, the Armenian forces from territories of Azerbaijan's occupied villages commit purposeful burning of nearby villages. It has the character of the threat of civilian population and causes them economic harm. The Armenian MP, who spoke before me said that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces strained the situation in the region by violating the ceasefire.

Source: www.today.az...

The United States military has had close cooperation in the recent past with Azerbaijan's military (2006 Tom Hobbins visits Azerbaijan), including a program where Oklahoma National Guardsmen perform training and humanitarian aid in Azerbaijan under the State Partnership Program. More on the SPP is here

As for claims of Israeli materiel appearing in concentrated amounts in Azerbaijan bases, the Azerbaijani government has always expressed great interest in Israel's defence technology, in particular UAVs. (PanARMENIAN - Israel rearms Azerbaijan)

Keep watch on this one too. Could be used for cover or could be an actual crisis devolving.

On a side note of hilarious coincidence that of course the birthers lurking about will jump on, under the State Partnership Plan, Hawaii's National Guard is incorrectly paired with Indonesia on the Wikipedia entry. They are actually paired with the Philippines and Guam.

That is a fantastic site. I stumbled across it a few weeks ago when I was doing research into Turkish military forces. .

GlobalSecurity.org used to be my goto for this type of information, but the mass of data they throw at you can be overwhelming to sift through.

I hope you were being sarcastic on your commentaries.

Do i really need to tell you why the whole world hates your government?
And war it's never the solution. Did war ever solved any conflict between nations? Of course it didn't, and it never will.

I can't believe a human being thinks it's correct killing hundreds or thousands of other human beings just to fullfil the elite's agenda.

Re: Azerbaijan
US asked for permission to set up a base there for Iraq "war".
Putin said ok, and then after, OK yer done, get out.
US said, sorry Putin we are not done with our mission yet.

Watch this carefully as it and Georgia could be an excuse for Russia to get even for the CIA installation of that dirt ball in Georgia.

The US created 740,000 widows in Iraq.. which side do you think they will take?

Maybe, I have a lot more faith in law enforcement than you do because I know a lot of people on joint terrorism task forces, and maybe I see terrorism as an act that can be committed at anytime for any reason anywhere and a risk of modern life, but I'm not worried about this. Doesn't scare me. Isn't going to make me cower or act any differently. Could it happen? Sure.

On 9/11 "terrorists" killed approximately 2,740 Americans. All told in recent history, foreign terrorist attacks on Americans both on our soil and off it, are, while horrible, not that high. I believe the number is under 4000. Haven't checked it in a while.

Especially when compared to the average murder rate or your chances of dying in a car accident, where there are approximately 40,000 fatalities a year in the U.S. alone. Yet, the U.S. seemingly has no problem in responding to a terrorist attack by a small factions of radical fanatics with attacks on two countries where the deaths are now nearing if not surpassing 1 million people.

I know we've had almost 9 years now of people preying on our fear, and I understand how that fear came about...it was intentionally induced, but I'm not afraid. And I'm not going to allow it to allow me to excuse attacking yet even more countries, for in essence, money and power for some.

Just kidding ,

well it seems pretty scary!
It does look like things are heating up...

but where is the propaganda? its been quiet lately.

not seen much fear mongering concerning Iran. I just can't see Obama Explaining to his country why we just went to war...again....

its been too quiet.

I don't think anything will happen.

maybe its all just a big big excersise.

No apologies needed.

I understand the anxiety level increases just while reading these posts. We all have our own ways of dealing with it, but my interest here are strictly as a spectator and speculator.

I enjoy different viewpoints, and you probably do too, why we are here, no?

I would LOVE to know what China and Russia would do in response to an attack on Iran, but I loathe to see it happen.

Just follow the money, and have good day seeashrink, there are good things happening out there, yoiu just dont read about it much.

Well, let me guess. Its a three letter word, and it rhymes with 'spoil'?

The US is making moves to secure ITS supplies for the future.

The question is, can anyone stop them?

It has nothing to do with oil. The US has some of the largest oil fields in the world. No reason to travel across the globe to get more.

Yeah, I like it. Been using it since it came online. I enjoy thinking about things like we're discussing in this topic and watching geopolitical maneuvering and trying to figure out strategies and then looking at that site to see who could possibly overcome whom if they allied...as in cases like this with Iran. Quite a few Middle Eastern countries have a lot more firepower than I would have thought.

If there is a war and it spreads east, and depending on who allies with whom, we (being the U.S.) might find ourselves short of friendly places to land. I believe in 2005, Condoleeza Rice mucked up the remaining bases we had in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. They went back to allowing Russia bases there. And they're on the path.

Or it might not be, why would Russia suddenly run into Azerbaijan? That makes no sense when they are being asked to intervene in Kyrgyzstan. Russia has NOTHING to gain from getting the US out of Azerbaijan, they could make a base in Armenia and its no difference.

What kind of question is that? It has nothing to do with anything.

Naw. Religion's a tool they use to manipulate and frighten and divide people. And it works well. People think it's about religion, but it's not. Well maybe the one thing that is about religion in the middle east, aside from the sect issues already mentioned, is a piece of land a mosque stands on,which all three major religious players want so badly. But that's more about Gaza than Iran. And who knows if even that's about religion in the end.

[edit on 23-6-2010 by ~Lucidity]

King Solomons Temple mounds is what you refer too. Although there niever was a King Solomon, but the Masons believe so. Losers.

And religion IS used to dupe people, most of us don't believe that crap for a second. We will see though, Pike was a fat bastard idiot.

This is an important question to keep in mind. It's pretty obvious than Iran and NK work together to keep the US looking in both directions. If there is anything to this story then I would expect NK to do something provocative real soon.

Interesting comment, made me think.

Could it possibly be that because Sharia Laws forbid lending money at interest threaten the Federal Reserve's fractional banking make-you-and-your-children into debt slaves machinery?

I'm not at all paranoid about this. I watch. And I read. And I try to determine the reasons. Unemotionally. But I will admit I don't enjoy seeing people get killed over this crap. Not Americans, not Lebanese, not Palestinians or Israelis or Iraqis. Not anyone. Because for the most part, the people have nothing to do with it. That I can get emotional about.

Good one. Osama bin Laden basically TOLD us that in his original letters. When we were stationed in Saudi Arabia, the people there basically told us that too. It's not a shock that they just don't want us in their region. Yet we persist and persist. Why?
