If you guys go over to the thread on theoildrum.com, you will say someone said the same thing I did about the 'blob' being an area of scraped off smudge from the pipe exposing the white paint underneath.

It's getting ready to blow.

It would make for a spectacular 4th of July fireworks show if it can wait that long. Folks down in the gulf coast better get on the phone and start making reservations at a Hilton a thousand miles away before they are all booked up or they'll end up in a FEMA camp ... or one of them black coffins if they do nothing.

It's all starting to become clear now. Makes ya wonder if the government knew the gulf would blow one day long ago when they suddenly started building them FEMA camps and stocking up on family size black plastic coffins. Maybe the government knew all along global warming would eventually lead to this day.

I'm reading the comments onthis thread on the oil drum website

Somebody there said :

Just watched the press conference with Adm. Allen. He said that they noticed a 'burp' in the line, of either natural gas or
hydrocarbons coming up through the line meant to carry heated water down. They elected to remove the cap as a safety measure. Before they decide to replace it they have to check for hydrates; if they are found, they'll have to clean it and possibly reseat the pipe, then recap it.

And further down a quote from some other thread (by dougr I think)some time ago in which he commented about hydrocarbons :

It's possible that hydrocarbons are leaking out the bottom or sides of the well. If so, they might erode surrounding sediments and undermine the foundation upon which the 450-ton blowout preventer sits. If such leaks aren’t sealed off in time, the entire structure could topple over. “After that, it goes into the realm of ‘the worst things you can think of

Underwater volcanic eruption

Found this, I think we would be seeing some (even more) crazy stuff if this was really lava.

if people would actually read what bp has on the side of the video this came from bp's enterprise rov 2 :
Subsea operational update:

• This morning at approximately 0845 CDT a discharge of liquids was observed from a diverter valve on the drillship Discoverer Enterprise, which is on station at the MC252 wellsite. As a precautionary measure, the lower marine riser package (LMRP) containment cap system, attached to the Discover Enterprise, has been moved off the Deepwater Horizon's failed blow-out preventer to ensure the safety of operations and allow the unexpected release of liquids to be analysed.

• Capture of oil and gas through the LMRP cap is therefore temporarily suspended until such time that the cap can be re-installed. Capture of oil and gas through the BOP's choke line to the Q4000 vessel on the surface continues.

I wish people would read this thread and stop posting the same thing over and over. The fact is... the cap is off now... and it's NOT GOOD!~

Interesting... Skandi N. ROV 1 has not moved in the last hour or so. It's depth has dropped .3/.4 sitting on the ocean floor. Not sure if that means anything... But I have not seen it move at all.

I finally signed up as I have not been able to stay away from this site for the last few days.

Anyway, I was following this last night (not sure what time) & watching the live video. I noticed that the top hat seemed to be floating around. It looked like there were several cables attached to it. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me & that it was just the ROV's movement that made it look like that but after watching for about 5-10 min., it was obvious that the whole thing was floating. It could have been after 1am but it seems like they are saying that it was removed later in the day????

Just wondering if anyone else noticed this?

Damn, that is the best post I've read all day! Trust me, if I was currently on the gulf, my family and my friends would be on a convoy north west led by myself. I can't believe this is happening and we are in hurricane season, and there is not a mass exodus away from the Gulf. The sheep that trust the government will wait right where they are for the first hurricane to come. They will watch all their homes and buildings and their businesses be painted in oill. They will suffocate on the air borne globules that will be mixed with the air. They will either immediately die or have long term fatal diseases from the toxic gasses that will blow on shore. And BP will have far fewer people to pay, because they will no longer be alive. The fact that they haven't already began evacuations will go down in history as the worse attack by a government against its people in the history of mankind, by simply doing NOTHING!

I still say they are getting ready to cap it. Just been hanging on to the side of the cap, guiding it in. I saw the plume in the distance a second ago, and then an operator noticed a wire fell down below the bottom of the cap again, so they let go to fix that, now they are hanging on and guiding again.

As for the BOP, yes, it is still in place. They have inspected it several times today.

The BOP being there was never part of the equation to begin with this discussion only pertains to the "top hat" that was placed over the BOP to siphon oil to a ship on the surface. The "top hat" has been removed due to some anomaly which has already been posted. They will try to put it back on later.

Did anyone else read that the captain of the ship that the ROV that hit the pipe came from killed himself shortly after. I do have confirmation from someone on one of the science boats at the spill site says that boat hauled ass out of the site right after the accident this morning. Also, same source stated that part of the top part of the sunken platform was raised up from the sea floor and now is marked EVIDENCE.

Sorry, but I really frelling hate it when people say nothing to see here.

You probably didn't mean it that way, but ::shudder:: I really hate it.
