It would appear to be chlorine gas

Chlorine gas?! No wonder they didn't say what kind on CNN. That would certainly explain the ship moving away. A cloud of chlorine gas kills very quickly.

See, the point I keep making is that I think its too coincidental that we hear stories of an ROV accident and now this riser top with half a diameter chunked out (and oil soot rubbed off)? I think it likely to be the result of the accident and the reason they cannot properly position the tophat currently - and I don't think they have a clue, now that they WILL NOT be able to get any kind of seal over that chunked out pipe.

There has got to be a condom joke for the situation we're watching, for a less doomy feel to it.

I guess the old adage of three's a charm has been proven false.

Looks like they are on to try number four now.

I saw that as well, this captures are from when it went back to look and found more. I wish i was able to capture the one you were talking about but my mind went blank when i saw it. You should see what the first rov just went through?

I'd like to ask members if they can view any available ROV feeds to confirm that the cover on top of the BOP -- that was helping to "capture" oil and gas -- has blown off.

If was the "top hat" object with four metal "fins". In the past hour I saw it was "jumping" as if it was coming loose, but it was hard to tell if this was so because the pictures were not holding steady enough.

I just checked again and now there's just an open, broken pipe with everything gushing straight up!

Here's the link to Skandi ROV II which is currently streaming live feed from this.

Could someone please capture some of this video? Could other members please confirm my observations?

Thank you.

Mike

EDIT: I've posted some video on Page 2 of this thread but if someone can make a better one, please do.

The time on that Skandi ROV II is now 17:39.20 23/06/10 and I'm from the UK/England and would like to know from member's here who are better at working with 'Global Times' what the "time" difference is from The New Gulf Of Mexico and Great Britian which is now 23:41 hrs here.

I want to know IF its NOT a dub video that has been looped and IF it really is reading as 17:39 hrs in Mexico 06/23/10/ 23:41hrs in the UK 23/06/10?

[edit on 23-6-2010 by DClairvoyant]

I almost forgot to mention that on the ROV it doesn't show any sign of oil spillage????

Why can't they pull the slack on those hoses that are causing so much trouble right now, from the ship? Why do we keep making the ROV pick them up, just to have them blown right off again on the attempts?

Seems silly to me.

Unless they know they can't get a seal and are doing this to appease us.

I noticed that. Other angles make it look like a deranged snowman head with sunglasses on.

They have shut off the oil 80%....how do they do that ?

There was just some text on the screen of BOA 1 saying proposed flowline route. Below that it said KILL 42. Have no idea what that means, but looks like BOA 1 is surveying for a future flowline.

After reading from other forums, I believe that it was degrading in performance (the cap). They made comments from BP that gas was getting into the warm water line that helps to keep the methane ice from building up. I believe that over the course of time it was on there, the oil and gas was finding it's way into the closed systems of the cap. And since it was degrading performance, it was getting weighed down by the oil outside and inside the cap and methane hydrates may have started to form inside the cap. Nothing is going to last forever if they continue to allow it to flow, and the only reason they are is because they dare not risk introducing pressure on the system since the well walls in the ground is broken and eaten through from the erosion and the top kill and also the BOP not being able to take any presssure.

LOL, just subtract the difference.

Thanks for adding that human element to all this.

Food prices up and good, local food sources now just not available any more -- and also more and more folks out of work, beaches and fragile coastal lands polluted, and who only knows what else is messed up on the sea or beneath it.

Eleven people dead.

No -- forgive me. Now it's thirteen dead.

All this because a bunch of know-nothing bean counters in BP thought they knew more than the real workers who do real work and get their hands dirty every day. All this so they could cut a few corners.

And now some real workers are out there risking their necks in some cases, trying to drill relief wells and trying to at least catch some of this poisonous mix "leak" that's belching up out of that broken well at Lord only knows how many barrels a day.

I can't blame you if you get angry about this.

Mike

Just an observation as I watch this, I am pretty sure my fourteen year old nephew - who does nothing but play video games - would probably be having better luck with this..
